  1. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with building the team through the draft and international signings. That’s literally how most current contenders got their high impact talent. If they did end up trading big prospects or paying in free agency to acquire high impact talent, it wasn’t until they were already competitive. They’ve done exactly what they should’ve done so far. Hoard as many prospects as they can because you never know who will pan out. The trades they’ve made haven’t been sexy by any means, but the floor for this team has gotten considerably higher as a result. They’re risk averse, but they’re definitely willing to make deals and trade prospects if it’s the right deal. They were willing to give up Bichette+ for Yelich. As for spending, they just ran back to back years of near $170M payrolls from 2017-2018. Our future commitments are basically nothing. We’ll have a ton of money to spend when the time is right.
  2. Severino going in for another MRI tomorrow. His shoulder might be worse than originally thought. He’s probably glad he signed that deal now.
  3. April 19th @ OAK.
  4. Mike Trout is not human. .393/.581/1.000 1.581 OPS 5HR 11BB 3K He's on a 19.4 fWAR pace.
  5. Hell of a catch by Burrito
  6. McKinney hit it at 106 mph. xBA of .960. Just terrible luck.
  7. I'd rather pay $33M to have Morales on a bad team than pay $60M to have Edwin on a slightly better but still bad team. He wasn't going to make an ounce of difference on those 2017-2018 teams.
  8. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I'd also listen on offers for Giles. There's going to be a lot of contenders this season looking for a proven closer (Phillies, Braves, Red Sox, etc.). That combined with the inflated reliever prices at the deadline anyways, you could be looking at a massive haul for Giles.
  9. Kyle Hendricks was due to be a free agent in 2021 similar to those two and got 4 years $55M. He could be an interesting baseline for a potential extension. I don't see either topping what he got. Hendricks is better and much more consistent.
  10. I'm not sure we ever really had a chance to get high-ceiling prospects given the majority of our trade assets were not great and/or on expiring contracts. We did end up getting Hector Perez for Osuna, and he's as high risk as it gets. The real test is going to be what they get for guys like Sanchez, Stroman, and Giles. We could be looking at getting back Top 100 prospects for all 3.
  11. The swing and bat speed legitimately remind me of Bichette when he was in Lansing.
  12. Good outing for Sanchez. 6IP 5H 2BB 5K
  13. Atkins really likes Brito. Says he could have a breakout season and compared him to 2018 Joey Wendle. Says Shelley Duncan worked with him when he was in Arizona and really like him too. Seems like they're going to give Brito every chance to stick in RF.
  14. Stiff neck
  15. TORONTO 1. Brandon Drury, 3B 2. Socrates Brito, RF 3. Randal Grichuk, CF 4. Rowdy Tellez, DH 5. Danny Jansen, C 6. Billy McKinney, LF 7. Lourdes Gurriel Jr., 1B 8. Freddy Galvis, SS 9. Alen Hanson, 2B CLEVELAND 1. Leonys Martin, CF 2. Jose Ramirez, 3B 3. Jake Bauers, DH 4. Carlos Santana, 1B 5. Brad Miller, 2B 6. Greg Allen, LF 7. Roberto Perez, C 8. Tyler Naquin, RF 9. Eric Stamets, SS
  16. He's hitting more line drives. LD% went from 17.6% in 2017 to 26% in 2018. Also cut his GB% from 43% to 36%. Actually last season was the first time his GB% has ever been below 40% in his entire career. 140 wRC+ and .400 wOBA in 478 PA. Still only 26. Could be intriguing.
  17. The Yankees woes against the Orioles continue. Villar goes deep to make it 1-0 James Paxton balk makes it 2-0 Paxton wild pitch makes it 3-0 Top of the 2nd.
  18. Syndergaard and Strasburg both throwing no hitters going into the bottom of the 5th. WSH is up 1-0
  19. Why? Try and develop him as a starter. He's got 3 good pitches. Fantastic whiff% on his slider and change, and he's got a 3000 RPM curveball. The bullpen is always going to be an option.
  20. I like the deal more as the days go by. Front loaded, Grichuk, has a high floor as it is, and he technically doesn't have to improve that much to actually be really good. Cut his K-rate a couple percent, improve his walk-rate a couple percent, and you could be looking at a 4-5 WAR player with his defense and speed. Otherwise, paying a 2 WAR player $28M for 3 free agents years is not really a big deal.
  21. Really puts into perspective how well he did after he came back. Starting June 1st, he was on a near 40 HR pace
