  1. I’m excited to see Trent Thornton today. It’s impressive enough that he had a decent rookie season on a terrible Jays team in 2019, but when you consider he was doing that with bone chips in his elbow which severely limited his arms range of motion, it’s more impressive. He told the media that post surgery is the best he’s felt in a while, and he’s also simplified his arsenal to fastball-changeup-curveball-slider and put the rest of his pitches in his back pocket for now. I still don’t know if he’s ever going to be a guy that should go through the third time through the order, but if you pair him up with an opener like Ryan Borucki, I bet you he can be a very effective bulk guy that can eat 4 or 5 innings. He’s one to keep an eye on for sure.
  2. Keith Law and Baseball-Prospectus already have him on their 2021 Top 100. There are a ton of prospects on this years lists that barely had prospect status due to the shortened season. My guess is Manoah will included in all lists the moment all of them graduate early in the season.
  3. MLB.com released their Blue Jays Top 30: https://www.mlb.com/prospects/bluejays/ #7 ranked farm system according to MLB Pipeline
  4. Impressive 2 innings by Hatch so far. Pitch count is already at 40 though, but this is more or less the Yankees everyday lineup.
  5. Hatch sitting 95 mph on his sinker/4-seamer early, and he just got LeMahieu on a beautiful slider.
  6. I watched the entire press conference and what got lost in that tweet was the entire context around the quote “A very good day for the organization”. It wasn’t specifically about Zeuch but rather the personnel focusing on pitching development. He was very complementary of Matt Buschmann, the coaching staff, and high performance department working together to unlock more velocity for Zeuch. What I got out of it was that the organization seems to have taken a step forward when it comes to pitching development, which seems to fit the eye test with guys like Anthony Kay, Ryan Borucki, and Jordan Romano as well. Trent Thornton has also been tinkering with some things and is due to make a start on Friday, so I’m excited to see how he will look. We’ll see how all of this translates to the regular season though. I was hoping we could get some pictures of the pitching/hitting labs in the new player development complex, but for obvious reasons they didn’t show it. Either way, very encouraging development with Zeuch for sure.
  7. Vlad’s slash line this Spring: .529/.625/.941, for a 1.566 OPS and only 2K’s in 24 PA. Just absurd.
  8. Clearly that's the case: I'm curious as to why he's totally ditched his curveball, which coming out of college was considered one of his stronger secondaries.
  9. He averaged 92 mph from 2019-2020, so not really. He was just showing 94mph consistently while touching 96 mph. Although hard to say if it'll hold during starts or if it's just because of a short stint.
  10. I don't know what our player development guys are doing, but there's been a noticeable amount of our pitchers that have showcased an uptick in velocity this spring.
  11. I'm liking what I'm seeing from Zeuch today. Seems like there's a little more zip on his fastball. He was throwing 89-90 mph his last outing. Also throwing a cutter which I haven't see before. Maybe we can have our own version of Dakota Hudson!
  12. Zeuch was averaging around 94 mph with his sinker by the way. Hardest I've seen him throw.
  13. Do we have a 2021 bold predictions thread yet? Because I'm ready to make some really bold proclamations about winning 100 games after we put up 10 runs against the AA Tigers.
  14. I’m excited to see Thomas Hatch today. Keep an eye out for a curveball he’s apparently been working on this offseason. It’s going to tunnel really well with the rest of his pitches. He’s one of the few pitchers that check every box for me in terms of becoming a good starting pitcher: - High-spin, moderate velocity fastball - Effective secondary pitches that can get both sides of the plate out - Incredibly poised and composed on the mound - Clean bill of health and limited injuries up to this point - Smooth, easy delivery test - No discernible issue throwing strikes on a consistent basis Have a feeling he might end up being one of our best starters/bulk guys.
  15. Crazy good lineup for today’s game against Detroit: 1. George Springer, CF 2. Marcus Semien, 2B 3. Bo Bichette, SS 4. Teoscar Hernandez, LF, 5. Rowdy Tellez, DH 6. Vlad Jr., 1B 7. Cavan Biggio, 3B, 8. Randal Grichuk, RF, 9. Alejandro Kirk, C Swap Grichuk for Gurriel, but even as it stands, it’s an amazing lineup.
  16. Ross Stripling gets the start tomorrow against the Orioles
  17. I don't think multi-inning is out of the question at all. He has the slider/cutter that's effective against lefties and the changeup effective against righties. He can clearly be an effective multi-inning guy, but he'll be the one dictating that. He can get a little wild at times, but I'm sure the Jays would love to have him as a multi inning stopper.
  18. Great pitching today. It's only Spring Training, but everyone was throwing strikes and throwing hard. It's what you want to see
  19. Romano in throwing absolute heat. This bullpen is stacked. David Phelps is going to be pitching the 6th inning lol. Haven't even see Yates yet!
  20. Groshans actually got good wood on that 99 mph sinker (off the bat at nearly 100 mph exit velo). I've been impressed with his approach as well, and he seems to do well against velocity even when overmatched.
  21. Borucki sitting 96-97 mph with the sinker, and then drops an 88 mph change. Just unfair lol
  22. Matz with another K to end the inning. So far, 3IP, 1H, 3K, 43 pitches.
  23. Gurriel made a real nice play 1B, which made me realize that he was actually playing 1B.
  24. Throwing strikes has never been the problem with him either. He can command fairly well. The issue with him has always been mental and getting in his own head when he allows baserunners and/or homers. He just needs to stay composed when that happens. I'm hoping Pete Walker can instil some confidence in him to do that.
