  1. Yeah no reason at all to think he hates being there, especially after the way things went with the championship run and the awesome fan support. Like you said, just a matter of whether the guy decides he needs to 'scratch that itch' of going back to play in his home town. Personally, I think it would be a mistake, because the attention and expectations will be so high - why bother. It's not like he can't spend his offseasons down there to be around his family. Anyway - back to baseball
  2. We can certainly hope. But maybe he is just doing some stuff in Toronto and surrounding area (apparently was at the Niagara Falls the other day) before he leaves for good.
  3. I would almost say more like the Bad News Bears at this point.
  4. Yeah at worst you get the one out at home and keep the run from scoring. Pathetic
  5. With that kind of raw power, you got to be patient with this guy to develop as a hitter.
  6. Also Trout is really good. I think he was sitting on that high fastball with 2 strikes because that is 'the book' on how to get him out.
  7. Way to make up for the error Vlad!
  8. Yeah he has been given some tough calls, but he did a nice job there not missing the mistake - that's what a good hitter (unlike Grichuk) does - almost always punish the center-cut mistakes.
  9. Oh yeah, I am being totally sarcastic because I believe the exact opposite. But that was the response I got when suggesting Smoak's presence was of value beyond what he contributes individually on the field. ETA also Phelps, Richard and Jackson (barf)
  10. Apparently you didn't get the memo that the importance of 'vetrin presinz' is a myth
  11. With Aaron Sanchez, I think it is possible he could have developed into a better pitcher, but all the nagging finger issues over the past 2 seasons have also set back his development, and maybe partly as a result of this, he has never developed the command to be an effective starter over the long run. I TOTALLY agree that he needs to be put in the BP full time. As Spanky said, it doesn't matter if he agrees, because it is not up to him. Let him sit out and see what that does to his value when he eventually hits free agency ( I guess he could go overseas). Anyways it is sad to see the sorry state of this guy, as his birthday of July 1st always made me pull for him to succeed with the Jays. But yeah; if only they would have traded him instead of Syndergaard......... Oh and as already posted in this thread, the Jays were just completely humiliated by a team missing 3 of their 4 best players that are currently on the DL (Correa, Springer, Altuve). Reality check after a couple wins against the lowly O's: this rebuild has a looooooong way to go. ETA: I will start referring to the DL as the 'IL' right after I start calling the SkyDome the 'Rogers Centre'. f*** OFF with that s***!

    NBA Thread

Congrats to Raptors fans and Toronto!
  13. WOW, I just gained a whole new respect for Trevor Bauer. Yeah he is quite the 'character', but I don't know about all this anti-woman / anti-gay accusations. Seems to me he is just one of those very non-PC types in the public sphere, and his off the cuff statements can be ginned up into a mountain out of a molehill.
  14. Exactly, consistency is his downfall. If he can become less 'streaky' he becomes a more effective player, even if the overall season numbers are about the same. It's something that should come with more experience and maturation. As far as the contract, it is a relative pittance when you consider starting pitchers getting $210M / 7 yr and only play every 5th game (other than playoffs). I have no problem with that investment, considering the potential upside. Frankly, I am really pulling for this guy...
  15. I think guys just get too anxious to seize on something that supports their side of an argument. I still think Grichuk can be a meaningful contributor, but he does need to figure out a way to become more consistent at the plate and less lacsidaisical in the field.
  16. He definitely got screwed on that 3rd strike call, but he should be 'protecting' with 2 strikes, so it is hard to feel sorry for him (even though I kind of do). Hopefully he gets things going for an extended hot streak soon.
  17. Hudson now 13 for 13 in stranding inherited baserunners - silver lining !
  18. I was actually thinking when I saw your post before the game about the Jays having a big day that they will probably lose a shootout 10-8 or something like that:eek:
  19. yeah no way the Red Sox win the WS last season without Sale and same for Giants in 2014 with Bumgarner. The thing is: I think Shatkins will look at the 2016 Indians and how close they came and just keep telling themselves we just need to do that again.
  20. I hope this is mostly just a precautionary thing to give his arm a rest and protect possibly the Jays' best trade chip before he goes out and continues mowing them down into July as you said.
  21. At first I thought you meant a 98 mph slider ! But yeah it's touches 98 with the 4sfb with a good slider. Hopefully he pans out.
  22. Well what do you know even with gascan Jackson
  23. Yeah perfect fastball out over the plate that he fouled back before he stands there like a dummy watching strike 3. I am so over this clown.
  24. standing around picking his nose ? this is the kind of thing I was worried about with him manning CF
  25. I am not necessarily against the idea, but I doubt they Jays will play in that 'high end' market. Like in 2016, when they signed Happ and Estrada instead of Price; I could see them trying to get 2 guys at $15-20M per year each instead of committing to one guy at $30M per year for 7 years. Remember this is the risk averse Shapiro we are talking about here
