  1. I like to choose samples to show trends in production, or relative performance vs various teams in order to show a little different perspective outside of the total sample. I could just go with the norm and rage on about how a player sucks because his overall season numbers are bad, but I prefer to look for signs which indicate better results are likely on the way.
  2. Come on man, cherry picking is so passe. I like to think of it as selective sampling.
  3. Ouch can't say I'm very hopeful about this lineup's chances vs Alcantara. At least Gausman is on the mound so it's not totally hopeless.
  4. I'll make a custom sample for you. Since May of 2013 you've contributed 13,332 mind numbingly nonsensical posts to BJMB. This has led to a sub-replacement thanks/post ratio of 358/13332 (0.0269 tPr).
  5. If you aren't miserable then why are you acting like such a miserable whiney little baby in most of your posts lately? This team certainly deserves criticism leveled their way, but so much of the criticism is so over the top it's ridiculous. Fire the GM, fire the manager, fire the team president, fire the mascot etc. Despite the uneven play they still find themselves within striking distance of the wildcard at a single game back. The way the board carries on lately you would think we have been watching an all time bad team like this current edition of the Oakland A's, or an actual disaster level potential contender like the Cardinals.
  6. The last few series certainly didn't help my narrative any but it still remains true this Jays team had been very solid against baseball as a whole while struggling against Baltimore and Boston. Did Kirk have a 120 WRC+ for two weeks in May? That's cool I guess, thanks for sharing. I haven't heard or read anything Wilner has done for years, what flavor of kool aid do I need to drink? I never did care much for kool aid anyway though, I've always been more on an iced tea guy.
  7. Why don't you go away then if you are so miserable?
  8. This guy is quite possibly the most annoying poster on this forum now.
  9. Oh give it a rest already. Vlad isn't the 70 WRC+ or whatever the hell he's done since May, Chapman isn't the kind of bat he's shown from the start of May and Manoah isn't baseball's worst starter. I guess I should just go ahead and put you on my ignore list since you are quite possibly even more irritating than the mouth breathers who sign up just to stir up s***.
  10. This team needs to figure out how to get some of their best players back to playing like their best players. If Chapman, Vlad and Manoah continue to struggle the way they have been this team is going nowhere.
  11. Jesus f*** man you should go back to the homer version of yourself, this current version is absolutely insufferable.
  12. I know you have decided to join the doom and gloom crowd but Orelvis looks like he's figured something out in the last month and a half or so. His power has returned, but more encouragingly strikeouts are way down, walks are way up, and batting average has increased dramatically as well.
  13. I remember that top, it really felt like a case of fixing something that wasn't broken. Cimber wasn't necessarily a guy you wanted to bring in with runners on base as he didn't induce many strikeouts , but he was still a really effective middle reliever. Middle relief is somewhat surprisingly the main weakness of this pen as the leverage relief (aside from Garcia) has mostly been quite effective.
  14. The team could really use the non s***** version of Pop for middle inning relief. Especially given how awful Cimber has been this season.
  15. Yeah the dude has a well deserved 7.40 ERA with a 7.48 FIP to match. He's been absolutely killing the team the last few weeks, surely Jay Jackson, Hatch or any other assorted warm body from the minors could give them better innings than Cimber right now.
  16. Does it really? It makes perfect sense to me that an elite defensive centerfielder or shortstop is going to accumulate a lot more defensive WAR than a first baseman given the difficulty inherent to each position. On top of that a really good defensive outfielder is going to be able to save a lot of extra base hits from falling in, and has more opportunities to accumulate defensive runs saved based on their ability to limit baserunners from advancing on the bases.
  17. I wouldn't offer him a 10 year extension by any means but I think 6-8 years would be a worthwhile gamble. His Statcast metrics are all remarkably close to his 2021 numbers, with the only sizeable difference being the increase in his chase rate. His home and road splits are pretty crazy as well. Home: 72 WRC+ Away: 160 WRC+ When you dig into this further, one thing really stands out: Home vs RHP: 59 WRC+ Home vs LHP: 157 WRC+ Road vs RHP: 171 WRC+ Road vs LHP: 113 WRC+ How is it even possible for a player to crush right handed pitching to this degree on the road, yet be positively awful in the same split at home? If Vlad were anywhere close to hitting RHP at home like he was on the road we would be talking about how he's completely rediscovered his 2021 form, instead we are talking about what an epic disappointment he has been so far.
  18. Now might good be a good time for a low cost extension. If he ever figures out how to lay off of pitches out of the strike zone he could be a serious bargain in the future.
  19. Caleb Joseph is trying to pin this on Vlad based on a poor secondary lead and wide turn around third base, but I put that fully on Rivera with a bad send. He should know Vlad isn't a great baserunner and has below average speed, and this was against a right fielder with 95th percentile arm strength. Given Vlad's girth I would surmise that this is a typical third base turn for him given the centrifugal force involved. Garcia leads all MLB outfielders in assists over the last 3 seasons, so this is categorically NOT a player you want to be running on. This was just a mind bogglingly bad send, even for a coach who has a reputation for bad sends over the years. The only possible defence I can come up with for Rivera is the high likelihood that Vlad would have ran through the stop sign anyway, but he has to at least try to stop him there.
  20. Yeah that was a terrible send as that dude has an absolute cannon.
  21. Looking at small picture only pinch hitting Kirk for Varsho is excusable, but when you look at the big picture and see that Espinal is going to receive an at bat and Varsho does not the decision makes a lot less sense.
  22. So multiple runners on base and the pitcher brought in is Cimber...
  23. I've been impressed with the Rangers defensively.
  24. Pretty nice AB by Vlad, fouled off a lot of tough pitches but then fouled back a lot of hittable pitches too
  25. Francis is living dangerously so far. Tons of traffic and near misses on extra base hits
