    That was interesting to say the least. This seems to point to the baseball adage that a non-tying run "doesn't mean anything". I've always thought that this was incredibly dumb as if you don't score the other runs that precede the tying run, you have no shot to score the tying run in the first place.

    I think Francis was a decent enough depth option, but the coaching staff/front office decided to get cute and not actually use him for very long. Having Cimber pitch the 8th with nobody other than White to come in to rescue him was pretty awful bullpen management.

    Yeah it was Cimber. I recall he was just over the service time threshold earlier in the season. I wonder if he would decline being optioned to the minors given how poorly he's pitched this season. The club would likely be a lot better off with Jackson as he actually appears like he can retire major league hitters. Once Pop is ready for action that will be yet another challenge for Cimber to keep his position in the pen.

    We've gone over this recently, Cimber indeed has enough accumulated service time to decline being optioned to the minors.

    Cimber is the most likely candidate to be out of a job once Green is ready.

    Those guys were all basically made of glass unfortunately. It's hard to blame the high performance team for Tulo continuing to suffer injury after injury, MLB changing the baseball seams leading to Sanchez suffering blister after blister, Pompey suffering concussions from a bat falling on his head, Travis having a freaking congenital birth defect where he was missing a bone etc.

    That's at least a little better as the Rays have historically been a real thorn in the Jays side.

    I was a believer that Semien was a reasonably safe high end performer but at the time of his signing a 7 year deal was hard to believe. His deal was just so far beyond what Springer had signed for a season prior although I guess in that season there weren't actually many teams looking to spend so that may have suppressed Springer's eventual deal a bit. If you had a crystal ball and knew how free agent salaries were about to explode then you could more readily justify the Semien contract, but it certainly looked like a bit of an overpay at the time, I wonder how far the Jays were willing to go as they were reportedly in on the negotiations, and also involved in negotiations with Seager as well. I recall they also tried to negotiate an extension with Semien before he hit free agency but weren't able to get him signed on the dotted line.

    I could get on board with handing out these kinds of deals to the truly elite player class. Like Aaron Judge, Ohtani, etc., but the class of guys below that is getting those kinds of deals now as well. I would love for the team to be able to retain Matt Chapman. But I sure as s*** don't want the team handing him a deal that pays him $30+ million a season until he's 40 given how that will kneecap the team in the second half of the deal. It's the same situation with Xander Boegarts, on a George Springer kind of deal I would have loved for the Jays to pick him up. But paying him until he's 40 years old? Hard pass to that as well.

    I didn't like the precedent that it set where big free agents were going to be paid until their late 30's and even early 40's moving forward. Most of these guys are going to be useless husks by the time their deals are up. Brandon Nimmo is a perfect example of this, handing out an 8 year deal to a player with an injury history like his is pure lunacy.

    White hurt his shoulder so you would think that has to be a factor here. Hopefully he can bounce back with a full offseason of training but he doesn't look promising for this season.

    There's a big difference between thinking a guy that is acting entitled vs a guy who is disappointed he won't be able to help his team out. I lean towards the second option personally but I guess we differ there.

    Verlander was pretty much the picture of good health for most of his career. There's no way you can say the same thing about DeGrom though.

    This tweet doesn't say Alek thinks he deserves to stay in the big leagues, it says he's upset about being demoted to the minors because he wants to help his team.

    There are a few zones where he does damage out of the zone. And there is one zone in particular where he can do a lot of damage on bad pitches. He just REALLY needs to stop chasing those away pitches.

    He's obviously cut from the same mold as his father where he can do damage on pitches he has no business swinging at. He and Bo are each very good bad ball hitters who have the inherent talent to be among baseball's best with just a smidgeon better plate discipline.

    I don't think Alek would have been nearly as indignant as he was when he was called out by that MLB network dude if he wasn't working hard in the gym. I do hope this ends up being a blessing in disguise long term though, I think there should be extra velocity in that frame that can be coaxed out with the right type of training. With the low 90's heater he just can't have the same type of success in the zone as he did previously. Even when he makes a good pitch it's much easier for the opposition to simply foul it off and wait for a mistake, whereas he used to be able to get away with quite a few mistakes previously.

    It's entirely possible his offseason training routine needs work. I just hate it when people definitively blame his "obvious" offseason weight gain for mechanics that are completely out of whack. I don't think that an extra 10 or 20 pounds or whatever is going to be that obvious on a guy that is already this massive to start with. I recall years ago when Brandon League started weight training in the offseason, and his lats were built up to the point where it was negatively affecting his stuff. I wonder if Alek is training in more of a strongman type of routine or something and could use more guidance from the training staff about how to navigate his offseason.

    Maybe he can take some conditioning tips from Ryu as well while he's down there as well.

    I don't think Manoah didn't necessarily needed an ego check, he just needed to take down the overly aggressive overtures towards the opposition on the field of play. He was a massive young confident pitcher at the top of his game with the world at his fingertips. If ever there is a time to be a bit brash/cocky that's exactly it. I really haven't seen the same brash guy much at all this season unless you think a guy breaking down in the dugout after his start is indicative of somebody who needs an attitude adjustment.

    That's really f***ing dumb. Manoah is getting his serving of humble pie because he's struggling immensely. These struggles have the team battling for a wild card spot rather than challenging for the division. I'd sure as s*** prefer to see Manoah continuing to dominate and acting cocky/aggressive on the mound at the same time.
