  1. The nuances of this game is one of the best parts of it. Great replies here, I’m still not totally convinced either way.....
  2. Watching it at the time I thought the catcher was crazy to argue, Showalter didn’t erupt as he often likes to. But I guess with hindsight the umps were wrong....
  3. In addition, reliever Givens on a wild pitch perfectly sealed off the plate as Didi came in with what would have been the winning run from third. Rarely has a pitcher sealed off home with a splits slide while facing home plate. He must practice that a lot. The Os announcers talked about a non-catcher having the right to seal off home without the ball without an answer.
  4. Yankees and Os last night Stanton was the runner on third Apparently...... with Sanchez now passing Stanton, Sanchez is out and Stanton had the right to try to get back to third At the same time an ump can deem a man as tagged out if he isn’t trying to get back to his base..... I’ve seen it a few times in the major as a basestealer that is going to be out makes a travesty of not going to second to be tagged. Is this like a quick whistle in football?@@ The crew admitted it was in error on not calling a DP. The Os TV crew said this situation is the textbook instruction on the interpretation of the rule. I’m sure many on here know the rules ten times better than me....
  5. After 40 years of watching a game every day I still see something new to write on my scorecard. Last night we had 1st and 3rd with one out. Runner on 3rd went on contact right back to the mound, during the rundown the runner on first took 3rd and held while the trapped man ran back past the bag, practically into left field before the tag. The catcher insisted it was a double play, but only one out was given. Fireworks didn’t erupt from his manager, who would have given them if he felt it was right. They blew the call as the man just into third had essentially passed his teammate on the base path. Should have been a double play. Or so the announcers said 90 minutes later.
  6. My taped and watched game of the day was STL at Brewers, first game in MLB history starting and ending with back to back home runs. Braun with the walk off.
  7. They froze the Stubhub prices at 3pm today, nothing has reduced since then until now at 5:45pm. No new tickets have been added either. I'll keep checking for another hour and will advise if they are allowing a true auction to occur, or are rigging it again this year,
  8. The lineup isn't loaded with Iron Horses, he will get his fair share of OF action.
  9. Thanks ChrisS!! I saw a lot of single good seats like that for yesterday, work prevailed, and I didn't miss much. Hope both of us can grab cheap great seats all season!!!
  10. I saw something about that.... I'm downtown at the office and am indifferent between going for a bargain ticket bought at 6:50 or grabbing a pizza and watching it on TV at home....
  11. Are the Jays going to continue shutting down Stubhub sales 3 hours before gametime like last year?
  12. Ernie Whitt didn't tone it down in his book while still playing games in which a skewered ump worked Jays games.
  13. Agreed that Pat was a better combo with Shulman, a good surprise.
  14. To each their own. It's not fun to crunch numbers for free if one gets paid very well to do so. To paraphrase some media column: "I just watched the Giants win a third WS in five yea and all they showed up with was 1-2 starting pitchers, a closer and two bats that struck fear. And nobody predicted it and nobody cares outside Giants fans."
  15. Wait till you see the stunt pulled for tonight's Jays game Bearing in mind NBA games routinely go 15 or more minutes past the time slot
  16. The new Rogers PVR records by: 1) Search for Blue Jays and it gives you only one channel option, which may have given a soccer game, you only have one channel option; or 2) Use the on screen guide and it showed the Blue Jays on channels which wound up showing a soccer game. I know 3 people who had this bait and switch happen to them. They didn't need it.
  17. Not with my FPOS 3.0 Big dude in a Donaldson jersey dished it out
  18. Good fight in the 100s out past third
  19. 7 jays in a row without contact 4 Ks and 3 walks
  20. Have they allowed extra arm contact all along? Sice it only matters if it messed up the play, the pool of review is limited.
  21. No high fives or love taps or arm bars or judo chops or Spock pinches until time out is called.
  22. Fick did that as well at first in the playoffs a few years before A-Rod.
  23. Thanks for the objective discussions on here, a tough but correct call is a big part of baseball.
  24. Done a lot of road trips, 36 stadiums and a new one this summer (planning Mil/ChiSox/Cubs games in late July in 3 nights and maybe the Jays at Cleveland in August) Detroit: Ford and Comerica are across the street from each other, so you can plan multiple games during the fall on a weekend. Many hotels and casinos within decent walking distance of the stadium. Greektown is a few blocks away, one of the best restaurant strips for big eaters. The Hilton Garden Inn has been my stay about a dozen times over the years, right between the stadiums and Greektown. Safety isn't really an issue with common sense. This area is a ghost town for most of the day until the sports crowds invade. Little is open on Sunday mornings, or at least wasn't the last time 2 years ago. Cleveland: Hotels and restaurants abound within a mile of the stadium. Usual haunt is the Radisson Gateway for a half dozen road trips. This area is more alive than Detroit's, but still a ghost town until restaurants open around 3-5 pm. Safety not an issue with common sense. Quicken Loans Arena for concerts and Cavs right across the street from the Radisson and other good road trip hotels/motels. Pittsburgh: Best stadium easily. Usually stay at the Renaissance and walk the 1/4 mile to the bridge to the stadium. Half mile walk to Heinz Field. A higher living standard in this area than the other two cities, fine dining and cultural events nearby. Go see the Warhol Museum and try to chat up the curators between games. Enjoy!
