  1. A few memories of his time in town. No other Toronto pro athlete generated this kind of chatter over the last 4 decades. (Other athletes were rumoured to have engaged in behaviour that coulda shoulda led to charges but nothing was done about itÂ…) A) A friend told me his coworker was at his nephewÂ’s church confirmation party in a very unfinished basement in Brampton, and he looks across the room and itÂ’s RA standing there. HeÂ’s there as the date of a woman totally out of his league. I met 3 likewise women who told me RA asked them on a date, then announced 2 minutes after they got into the limo what his sexual intentions were, this ending the date. All 3 held the thumb/ finger L sign on their forehead, thing to do at the time. C) a clearly mentally ill woman showed up at SkyDome on game day with a gun and said she was going to shoot RA for sleeping with her and not calling her the next day. The media laughed but I had no trouble believing her.

Great, got to watch Game 6 of that Kings series again. Forget what total bull the first Kings goal was, crashing the net and the puck was never seen going in Not to mention the biggest pile of cow flop in Toronto history. Grateful I didn’t lose 4 elderly loved ones on the spot, 2 were infuriated and beet red and sputtering for hours after that one...
  3. Perfectly stated Clemente was hassled constantly by many reporters, I hope it wasn’t strictly racial, some were always calling him a head case and malingerer and whiner and the whole 9 yards. Curious if those 27 were part of the brave souls who attacked him even after his death.
  4. This day in 1973 Roberto Clemente was inducted into the Hall of Fame on special exemption. 27 writers opted not to vote for him.

Hockey history, 50th anniversary of Serge Savard tangling up with Vic Hadfield, hitting the goalpost and breaking his leg in five places, thought to be a career ender back then in his second year but he fought back for a great career with the Habs And then be broke it again the following year

Fans love to bitch about the team more than enjoy the wins. Gold medal for bitching nonstop alway goes to Leafs Nation.

Well done as planned If Florida wins both the games in hand the Leafs are still a point ahead Don’t waste a drop of sweat or blood taking that third spot in the division

they've always been a letdown since 1973 except for the Gilmour peak years, and I think that was just being good in that FPOS Norris division for once.... the Leafs are always the beta squad in the playoffs, i watched Salming get punched in the face after whistles 10 times each playoff game for more than a decade. the fun part is the bandwagon effect would be 10,000 times that for the title runs of the Raptors and Jays, it's that deep and important to us enjoy the ride, I don't expect them to get by Boston if they meet up...

It’s a thing cheering for this team, they look bad in Pittsburgh and they are rightfully criticized, they respond with a 4-0 equally impressive win over the Pens two nights later and NObODY seemed to notice this.

You know how the Leafs like to get up 2 goals and then get outshot 28-0 in the third sitting around until the other team ties the game, but maybe they won’t? they’ll play this way with the points cushion on Florida, until you give up on them. Wait until some clueless doooosh in the Globe rips into them as a team of cowards and losers, TWICE in one week, THEN bet on them

Two back to back games coming up to make up for last night. Don’t bet on the Leafs... I learned this around 1975....

the visiting team in a good position in the standings will rarely risk losing that tie point the NHL has not been able to solve this, offering 3 for a regulation win makes it even more of an incentive for the visitor to cling to that road point i don't like the Leafs turtling up 4-2, but until the other team scores two, all power to them

Buffalo sits there watching 2 points handed out to Fla/Tor and a pretty good chance a 3rd one as well it's almost impossible to come back from a less than 500 start without an amazing win streak in the NHL

An analytic calibration to take third in the division by one point Good effort, they played for the single point in the third, walked out with two at the rink of one of the best teams

the rest of the season is staying ahead of Florida, there is no other goal or incentive now slacking off and giving a crap when it matters
  23. replay in cricket is almost always over an LBW appeal (don't bother asking about this rule, it's almost impossible to nail it down unless one grasps a lot of nuances added in) and that is simply predicting the trajectory of the ball as it SHOULD HAVE GONE if the batter didn't put his pad in front of the ball it took awhile for all major countries to accept this and it does a decent job in predicting how the ball would have hit the wicket if unimpeded but that's still not nearly perfect and has nothing to do with baseball
  24. As a test cricket fan I wouldn’t go bragging about the accuracy. And the game and situation is completely different from baseball for reviews.

Hope that was the legit and live Canadian broadcast, which many of us watched. The US broadcast and everyone watching it outside CBC territory was all after they knew the US had won.
