Haha I don't know if it's nuts, a bit longer than I expected but they were going to throw the book at him. There was just no subtlety in his effort to take the guys head off, just far too blatant. They'd likely give an even more harsh punishment if Spezza wasn't a long tenured player with no track record. Then again, no one can pretend to know for sure what Parros and his band of idiots are thinking.

It might be a tad heavy, but I don't see a big problem with it. He's going to be their heart and soul for years to come, similar presence in their lineup to Landeskog in Colorado. It shouldn't surprise anyone that Ottawa didn't get any sort of hometown discount. I'm just happy for them that Eugene was willing to open his wallet.

I've sent out a couple offers, need a defenseman or two. Would like to move a forward in exchange, maybe Georgiev if someone needs a goalie

I think the mistake was more in keeping Brown too long, far after his value had clearly dwindled down to nothing. He once could have been a key piece of a significant trade a couple years ago, but at this point one would think there's more upside in keeping him than trading him (plus a pick) for a player whose equivalent could have been signed in free agency. I think the prevailing take on Brown, is that he'll never be more than a tweener. Not prolific enough offensively to be a true top 6 guy, and doesn't bring anything else to the table. He has great size but doesn't use it to his advantage, struggles to play the game with enough pace and has been quite injury prone.
