    That won't happen for quite a while - he'd have to go 0 for 45 to get below .100, or adding on 10 more at hitless bats per hit he manages to get.

    If we are forced to trade him for less than what he's worth, we should demand that the acquiring team takes Morales too. They'd instantly DFA him, so effectively they'd just be paying money on top of whatever prospects are given up. We've got to try to salvage something from this situation!

    Maybe if JD was having another MVP level season by the deadline. Machado has a chance of a return like that.

    Well the obvious response is that the front office must believe he can play 3B until his mid to late 20’s. I agree that if the plan was only for a couple of years it wouldn’t be worth it.

    Because he’d be more valuable if he can play 3B while he’s still young. If he’s called up now he’s a DH only this season. If the front office thought he couldn’t stick at 3B they’d want to start playing him at 1B in the minors first surely?
