  1. For those not watching, they're interviewing Atkins live - multiple players getting promoted from AAA on Wednesday when the Bisons season over (Vlad isn't one of them). He said they going to get creative and mentioned a large group, not sure how to read that. Perhaps a few DFA of players who won't be here next year?
  2. Do you think Oakland have a significantly better team than we do? They’ve had a couple of players have breakout seasons, and a good run of form. No one thinks we will add Vlad and suddenly be elite, but thinking we’re automatically miles off a second wildcard next year is pessimistic. Depending on offseason moves we could be up there with teams like the Angels as the mid tier teams.
  3. Yeah, the real test will be in 2 or 3 years (hopefully!) when we have a very good young team. Will this front office trade prospect capital, and/or pay to secure top free agents?
  4. TBF those two statements are mutually exclusive. Shapiro’s history and attitude suggests he is risk averse, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
  5. Do we think JD will ever be on the level of excellence? Pros: the first Jays MVP in nearly 30 years, as good a 3 year period as anyone, driving force in the first playoff team in over 20 years. Cons: this year including how his exit has been handled, only 3+1 years with the Jays.
  6. People give Granderson leeway because of his career, he’s been barely above replacement level this year. He was never going to be here long term, unlike the numerous prospects that have a chance to. I would also have preferred Pompey, Smith Jr, or Alford getting Granderson’s playing time this year.
  7. Nah I still think more playing time for the young outfielders would have been more beneficial than any veteran advice he would have shared.
  8. Just watched the highlights. There is no way the attendance was anything like the announced 8,800. Wonder how many corporate & season ticket holders didn’t turn up?
  9. Some interesting clarification on August waiver claims: PTBNL - if completed after the season the waiver process no longer applies. PTBNL - 6 months allowed to complete. There’s a $20,000 fee to claim. A team has to have space on the 40 man roster. Waiver Trading: Everything You Need to Know
  10. Ohtani is scheduled to start vs the Astros on Sunday.
  11. SMH I don't even......... Unless we exclusively eat wild animals that you've hunted yourself, it's impossible to eat "natural" meat going by your logic. Using selective breeding of crops as a reason why "biologically" you shouldn't eat plants is absurd - unless you are also excluding cows, pigs and sheep. Common sense says we should eat a varied diet, with different sources for the various things we need. You come off as every bit as crazy as militant vegans with their meat is murder nonsense.
  12. What if the best offer on the table wasn't that good? Look at Machado - shopped but not traded in the offseason, then rebuilds his value and is traded midseason. JD was still elite when he was fit last year, but you're forgetting that he missed a third of the season and had question marks about his future health (though of course no one was expecting him to turn into Tulo). It's not like Shatkins has said they turned down good offers, or even that there were rumours of offers.
  13. I assume metafour was pseudo trolling when he said that fruit and vegetables provide "zero nutrition". Maybe he was trying to set up a soy joke?
  14. This is from a year ago: Murphy Smith one step from MLB after 9 years in minors
  15. Maybe, but IMO it's more likely they wait for 2020. That gives more time for Bo, Vlad and others to establish themselves, and we'll have the Morales and Martin contracts off the books, with Tulo "only" tying up $14m.
  16. Unless he accepts, doesn't play through injury, and prevents money being spent elsewhere. That could be what the front office is worried about.
  17. 2nd round pick in the early 60s or 70s. Only revenue sharing teams can now potentially receive 1st round picks as QO compensation (and the player has to sign for over $50m).
  18. He's not been great this season, but with all the other lefties gone he's got a while to cement his bullpen place for next year.
  19. Or not, haha.
  20. Nice rally, keep it going.
