    IMO the Machado mystery team is someone like the Padres looking to kick start their progression after years of rebuilding.

    I know it doesn't really matter, but I wish we'd kept Diaz and got rid of Drury instead. IMO Gurriel is better as a 2B, and Urena and Drury are s***. Meanwhile Diaz can play SS and 3B and has 4 years of control left.

    Loads of pitchers still out there that can be picked up on minor league deals in the next few weeks. Includes ex-Jays like Hutchison (who actually just signed a minor league deal with the Yankees) and Liriano. Maybe even Estrada though he’ll probably try to hold out for a MLB deal.

    It definitely wasn’t most of the forum, but a few people were advocating keeping him in a mentor role for Jansen, and presumably moving Maile instead.

    There’s a fairly good chance Pompey wouldn’t be claimed anyway. IMO it’d be better for his career to go to another team though.

    They are being strongly linked with Harper too, could extend their window for a few more years.

    This. Plus most of the free agent money will be spent on pitching (we’re going to have lots of payroll space).

    TBF even if we had spent hundreds of millions in free agency, the injuries to Sanchez, Stroman, Travis and Donaldson, and Osuna’s domestic violence case would still have ruined our last two seasons. That would mean we would still have missed the playoffs 2 years straight, but would have much lower payroll flexibility. But now if Vlad, Bo and some other prospects have success over the next year or two, we have tonnes of payroll room to add complementary pieces in free agency.

    I mean a minimum salary look at Tulo to see if he can provide any value doesn’t have many drawbacks for other teams. If we’d kept him he could have used his no trade to veto anything he didn’t want, Heyman’s above tweet, plus the posturing of only willing to play SS for us...... suggests to me he just wants as much control as possible over his remaining time in the game.
