I have no problem with it and agree it's a competitive advantage. I'm not the poster bitching about it. I like it. I'm all for getting in the heads of the opposition in hopes that it rattles them before coming into the game.
Having a chip on your shoulder works when the your talent level is much higher than your hype. When it's the opposite, it no longer makes sense and wears thin.
I think based on game calling, I want the below going forward.
Jansen catching Manoah (until he figures things out), Berrios & Kikuchi.
Kirk catching Gausman & Bassit (since he calls his own game).
I think that's optimal because the former 3 are temperamental and need to be walked through their starts with perfect calling and setups.
He's a giant Stro in many ways. Low-mid 90s FB, Nasty Slider, lack of whiffs, contact management, tons of bravado and hype.
He's a good #3 when he's right and BABIP is normalized.
Manoah has actually been getting super lucky with a high LOB.
It was only a matter of time that he paid for it.
I really hope Pete can get him sorted out.
I think the pitch clock is impacting him the most. The guy usually pep talks himself to get back into his delivery properly. He can't do that this season, so he has no time to try and get himself right mentally.
This inning he looks like Sean Reid Foley lol.
Schneider come on man..
Even if this works out, why start the BP train now when Berrios is only at 77 pitches? Decisions like this is how you kill your BP.
Well he obviously is getting shelled with the current FB, it would make sense to want to increase the spin rate exponentially so it's not a slaughterhouse. Small increases won't do s***. The slightest missed location and it's a beach ball for every single hitter. Nibbling on the corners shouldn't be what a pitcher who throws 94-96 needs to do to succeed.
