  1. I personally don't like Berrios either. I don't trust him and I don't really want him starting playoff games myself. I don't hate the idea of trying to get out from under his remaining contract, but with Bassitt hitting the free agent market after this year, Francis regressing, Manoah a complete unknown, etc. at this point - I suspect the Jays see value in the stability he provides to the rotation - even if he's overpaid (a bit - it's not a crazy amount). Is there some scenario where we can trade Berrios and bring in another starter with control to replace him (Keller, Sandy, Severino)? I guess so, but you're getting into video game trades a bit - it's simply difficult to make several major trades like that, as finding the right trade partners isn't easy. I think we're stuck with Berrios - for better or for worse. It could be a lot worse though - at least he's still a horse. Our strong defense behind him covers up a lot. And by the way - I don't think anyone where expects us to re-sign Bo. He's gone unless he wants to sign a 1 year pillow deal in Toronto.
  2. Yeah - that's fair. I enjoy learning about the top picks - always lots of cool stories and I love following the picks. But yes, more than in any other major sport - the MLB draft is unpredictable (primarily due to the money and HS/College) setup. Can't wait to see what happens.
  3. This upsets me as much as anything non Blue Jay related does...
  4. I'm pretty sure the team was overdue for some good luck. Development isn't linear. Maybe we finally have the right supporting coaches. Maybe the Dunedin facilities are starting to pay off. It certainly can't be: Success = Atkins lucky Failure = Atkins sucks
  5. https://www.mlb.com/news/george-springer-having-rebound-season-in-2025 Nice little breakdown of Springers rebound...
  6. Fried drops out of AS game, replaced by Rodon. JRod also pulls out - no replacement named yet, but hopefully that's an opportunity to add Springer!
  7. He's was already crappy in 2 of the past 3 seasons and is on his way to making it 3 of the past 4. He never was a "great" hitter. It certainly looks like his best years are behind him. Austin Riley hasn't been awful, but he also doesn't look like the same guy he was 2-3 years ago.
  8. Obviously Ethan Holliday is in this coming draft, but there are several other familiar names expected to be called this weekend including: Max McGwire Kaeden Kent Manny Ramirez Jr. Austin Pierzynski Brady Counsell Cam Leiter Carsten Sabathia Jake Casey (Sean's kid) Jayden Stroman (Marcus's brother) No idea where these guys are projected to go, but keep an eye out for them this weekend.
  9. Less chatter about the draft than normal on this board - especially when we have a pretty high draft pick. I think I'd be happy if we landed Doyle at #8. I see him commonly mocked at #2. There seems to be talk if one of the college lefties don't drop to us, that we'd go with one of the HS shortstops. I also see C/OF Ike Irish mocked to the Jays on a couple of sites. Some suggest Kyson Witherspoon could also be in play as one of the top RHP college arms. What do the board experts think the Jays should be targeting at #8? This video seems to suggest that no matter who go ahead of them, there will be lots of top talent available to them.
  10. I think Belly was stealing/relaying signs at 2nd. He'd wave his arms on the slider. Edit - I'm too late, but I do love to see others seeing the same thing. It's really cool to have this baseball community.
  11. I've heard some suggest the Twins may consider selling Joe Ryan as well. You'd have him through 2027. He'd cost a ton, but his value may never be higher for the Twins...
  12. Nor should you, or anyone else. He's the ultimate wildcard.
  13. I say we cash in on the helium Khal Stephen has right now. Stephen, Roden and Schreck should draw interest around the league.
  14. Exactly. They need more offense.
  15. You should be embarrassed by 90% of your posts.
  16. I haven't been paying attention, but is attendance up at the dome? I have to imagine that with this streak, the buzz will be unreal when they return home after the AS break.
  17. Ric Flair becoming the board's #1 meme is incredible. I love it. Term for Prez.
  18. Yeah - I was actually thinking this when I wrote my post above. That might actually be a thing - but there are no metrics to track it. I don't even know if every basketball has to be pumped to a certain PSI before every game. You typically just see the ref randomly bouncing a couple and seemingly saying "this looks fine". I do think there was some issues with "new balls" in the NBA like 7-8 years ago. Maybe changed supplier and some felt they were slicker or something.
  19. Yes, I'm splitting hairs, but wouldn't it be more like having a different puck with a different amount of "bounce" each year? So one year Ovi's max slap shot is 95 MPH and the next it's only 88 MPH because they used a different rubber or a different density of rubber (or something like that)? Point still stands though - it would be insane for that to happen.
  20. Yeah - I agree. Doubtful everything comes together for a trade like that to happen. Maybe a 3-way deal where someone else gets Bo and the Brewers get players with control in return....but 3-way trades are even more difficult to pull off. Fun to chat about though.
  21. Blair and Barker were saying after the game last night how Lukes is a glue guy and a big part of the clubhouse. The guy has endured and it's awesome to see him having success at the ML level. They said you 100% want Lukes on your playoff roster and that it would be a mistake to push him off the team from a team chemistry perspective. No idea if that's true - but I do think Lukes is a grinder who's worked hard to hone his craft. I suspect the guys in the clubhouse respect that and I'm pretty comfortable with him in the lineup v. the right matchups. He does everything "ok" and he certainly competes for you day in and day out. Seems like a good, cheap #4/#5 OFer.
  22. They certainly need to avoid the trap of letting off the gas. It will be difficult given how mentally taxing the last 2 series have been. Hopefully the all-star break gives them motivation to keep grinding for 6 more games before they get a break.
  23. Yeah - we're just spit balling. Obviously we'd need to see Woodruff shove more before you'd target him. Unfortunately, the 'ace' market is paper thin in the year we need one.
  24. Yeah he's always a solid player. He's 31 and we have him under control for next year too. Hits lefties well, but holds his own v. RHP too. Wonder what he would cost. He seems like a bit of a luxury pickup as we likely need to focus on the rotation/bullpen first.
