    Kawasaki has a better bat (and does funnier interviews), but worse defense. Goins has the defense, but a worse bat. As the 25th guy on the roster, give me the defense and tell Goins to eat bananas on the bench and say "monkey's never cramp" during his interviews from now on.

    Don't you think the radio show would be a little boring if he said "well I don't know for sure and I don't want to speculate or guess" to every question that came in. For the most part - he's speculating, guessing or giving his opinion on EVERY f'ing call that comes in man. That's the job. At the end of the day - that's just his opinion and in this case, he's likely bang on. Sure it would be fan-f***ing-tastic to have Aoki here as "insurance" encase Pompey sucks or Saunders gets hurt - but it's likely not the best use of the remaining budget when we already have Dirks and Pillar on the team.

    This is what I was trying to get at when I asked if Goin's was average (or even above average) defensively at shortstop. We have to keep one MI who can backup Reyes. As it stands right now - I'd go Donaldson, Reyes, Tolleson, Smoak, E5, Valencia & Goins (Bautista, Pompey, Saunders, Pillar, Thole/Navarro) Goins & Tolleson platoon, as do Smoak & Valencia. Goins is the backup SS. The career track of Goins isn't as far off from being a poor man's Andrelton Simmons...........difference being Simmons plays the premium defensive position.

    The movement on that sinker, coupled with Storman's size reminds me of Pedro...just sayin'

    If Betts was on the Jays (which would make me explode in my pants), there's no way you'd have the same view of him...He was amazing last year in 50 games. There was basically nothing in his performance to suggest he isn't legit.

    Martin is going to need rest regardless. Wouldn't we assume Martin would develop a stronger bond/relationship if he only had 4 guys to work with instead of 5? Wouldn't his framing skills and game calling skills be best utilized catching the traditional pitchers? And thus wouldn't it be best to have Thole catch Dickey once every 5 days? The catch 22 is that in the playoffs (ie, the goal here) you'd want Martin catching every game. He'd have to catch Dickey A LOT to do that (to be comfortable enough) and thus he'd have to get his "rest" when the traditional pitchers are on the mound, thus decreasing his value as a pitch framer and game caller (not much game calling with Dickey out there).

    I didn't go for the induction ceremony weekend - but I must say it's an amazing little Town. I can't wait to go back.

    Seriously - can they not find out who voted for Percival, Boone, Gordon and Erstad and simply revoke their right to vote? You can't have people making a mockery out of the process.

    I actually don't mind the thought of getting Villanueva back. Not that we need more long men, but his FIP was significantly lower than his ERA last year. Might come at a reasonable price, good K/BB ratio. He isn't the big power arms I'd hope we could fill the pen with, but he's proven to be reliable. Not sure I'd give Axford a 2 year deal. His control and effectiveness has been MIA for awhile now. Finally - I highly doubt we're sticking Norris in the pen. He should given a slight opportunity to be our 5th starter, but more likely will be sent back to AAA until he forces his way into the rotation (or injuries).

    I've gone twice now. The first time we just got in our seats and then got rained out, so we returned a year later on rain check tickets. If you're going to be there for a few days (ie, not just going strictly for the ball game and leaving) - IMO, you want to stay in Manhattan. Our first time there, we stayed in the Bronx and all that meant was a longer subway rides to Manhattan. When we went back for our second visit, we stayed at the Park Central New York in Manhattan - and it was amazing. Much cleaner than the Bronx and we could basically walk where we wanted to go. I'd recommend you do the stadium tour as well - but note you have to call ahead and get tickets well in advance, as it sells out. That all said - I'd rather go to Boston (although I get the excitement for opening day). I have absolutely no plans to return to NYC anytime soon.

    I was just going to post this - anyone have the answer? Probably not get to review the outliners, but Baltimore won so many games a couple of years ago with their strong pen. They were something ridiculous in 1 run games. We of course saw that last year with KC. On the flip side, there have been more than a few very good teams that simply imploded due to a poor bullpen that blew a bunch of games (Tigers last year?). I'd be curious to see what WAR they were projected to have as a team and how much a great or faulty bullpen affected the final results.

    That had to have been one of the worst farm systems in baseball. I just threw up in my mouth a bit.

    I remember another Jays high draft pick who came with big expectations. He too threw a sinker, induced a lot of ground balls and had poor command in the minors. When given a chance in the bigs, his control improved (albeit not to elite levels or anything) and he became a horse starter for a few years. Of course he's now rotting away in AAA with a big contract and mental/knee issues. Ubaldo's another case of a big power GB inducing righty who's control was significantly better in the majors than the minors. I'm sure there's many more who made the necessary adjustments at the big league level (and yes - many who haven't - like many more).

    And it's funny to see people missing Alvarez when he induces swinging strikes about as much as Sanchez does....yet Sanchez is this msg boards whipping boy.

    I viewed AA getting the best pitcher he could (reigning cy young winner) within the remaining budget ($5M). I thought he gave up a bit too much there, but he was taking a risk to try and win now - which I can appreciate

    Escobar was a replacement level player last year. I assume salary/WAR is part of your reasoning (and what Spanky means by "value loss")? Did you want Escobar/Alvarez over Reyes/Buehrle in 2013 or last year?

    There is no way I want Navarro getting regular at bats as our DH. I'd rather work the waiver wire and look for lightning in a bottle ala Steve Pearce....or even the guy from Minny who we picked up who was white hot for a month.
