  1. Would be interesting to know who much Houston values him. Their offseason signings kind of suggest they don't have any faith in him as a late inning reliever. Surely to god they aren't fooled by his mid 4 ERA? Maybe they are just trying to mimic the Royals...
  2. Anyone think we could pry Josh Fields away from Houston? 11.5 K/9, 2.8 BB/9, 3.15 xFIP, 2.09 FIP last year. He was aided by an unsustainably low HR/FB and I'd rather him generate more GB's, but there's a lot to like here. What would it take?
  3. Do you guys think the Jays were taking Giolito in that draft he the Nats didn't? I meant to ask Tinnish that last I spoke with him, but forgot.
  4. That obviously wasn't Norris's best curve ball. I never noticed it before, but in the AAA .gifs above, you can see Norris lands on the first base side quite a bit, causing him to throw across his body. This is something they really tried to correct on Hutch...just an observation. Stop surfin', start fixing that man!
  5. Given our obvious need at 2nd base, I'm not sure how anyone can't be at least happy with the deal for Travis
  6. I love how quiet and repeatable his motion is...he certainly passes the eye test...I expect him to have a major impact this coming season
  7. I think this is spot on. Another point to add is that Dickey had been gaining velocity on his knuckleball year after year and with increased velocity came more strikeouts and better success. I agree the Jays took the risk that they had something very unique and very special on their hands. Given their financial situation, he really was the perfect storm opportunity. Unfortunately, the velocity dipped 2 MPH in 2013 and he hasn't been the ace they'd hoped for. However, he'd been a very good #3 pitcher at a reasonable cost. Syndergaard and TDA have been absolutely nothing to date - so even though Dickey hasn't turned out as well as AA thought he might, the deal still hasn't been a disaster. I don't blame AA for taking the risk, just like I don't blame him for taking a risk on Morrow, Santos, Gose, Delabar or Lawrie.
  8. Lind married the girl from The Mindy Project? Who knew.
  9. Clutch stats...that's funny
  10. I agree it's not the only way to judge a talent, but he's so far ahead of Happ there's really nothing else to debate. Btw, you haven't really explained why you don't like him or why you like Happ more. Repeating you just do doesn't really make for a riveting message board debate either.
  11. Buehrle needs the calls on the corners...Martin is the best bet to maximize those. That's my reasoning.
  12. Porcello is 25th in the majors total WAR overall the past 4 years. Happ would have to be paying you before you'd take him over Porcello
  13. Lay off the crack sir. Porcello's been basically a 3 WAR pitcher for 4 years now (which is about 30-35th best in baseball annually). He's a very solid pitcher and light years ahead of Happ. He's also young with room for improvement. I'd he was on the Jays you wouldn't have the same opinion.
  14. But he can't be expected to catch more than 120-130 games a year. His game calling and framing skills are better utilized catching traditional pitchers. Why waste him catching Dickey and then have to sit him when Buehrle throws?
  15. Helps to have confidence the guy is gonna catch it when you throw it...
  16. Again, Martin is going to need rest regardless. Wouldn't Martin's framing skills and game calling skills be best utilized catching the traditional pitchers? And thus wouldn't it be best to have Thole catch Dickey once every 5 days?
  17. Is Pearce the next Bautista?
  18. Wilner didn't say "the Jays were never interested in Aoki" man.....he simply said they aren't really in a position to spend money on depth. That seems like a logical and likely a very accurate view. You seemingly call Wilner a maroon based on some fictitious notion that he was suggesting that without a doubt, the Jays had no interest in Aoki.
  19. Remind me to stroke Japan off my places to see list...
  20. Kawasaki has a better bat (and does funnier interviews), but worse defense. Goins has the defense, but a worse bat. As the 25th guy on the roster, give me the defense and tell Goins to eat bananas on the bench and say "monkey's never cramp" during his interviews from now on.
  21. People are always raggin' on Wilner........but if that's your reasoning, you need to give your head a shake.
  22. Don't you think the radio show would be a little boring if he said "well I don't know for sure and I don't want to speculate or guess" to every question that came in. For the most part - he's speculating, guessing or giving his opinion on EVERY f'ing call that comes in man. That's the job. At the end of the day - that's just his opinion and in this case, he's likely bang on. Sure it would be fan-f***ing-tastic to have Aoki here as "insurance" encase Pompey sucks or Saunders gets hurt - but it's likely not the best use of the remaining budget when we already have Dirks and Pillar on the team.
  23. This is what I was trying to get at when I asked if Goin's was average (or even above average) defensively at shortstop. We have to keep one MI who can backup Reyes. As it stands right now - I'd go Donaldson, Reyes, Tolleson, Smoak, E5, Valencia & Goins (Bautista, Pompey, Saunders, Pillar, Thole/Navarro) Goins & Tolleson platoon, as do Smoak & Valencia. Goins is the backup SS. The career track of Goins isn't as far off from being a poor man's Andrelton Simmons...........difference being Simmons plays the premium defensive position.
  24. Is Goins good enough defensively to be our backup SS?
  25. The movement on that sinker, coupled with Storman's size reminds me of Pedro...just sayin'
