  1. We all agree this shouldn't be allowed right? Why would you be allowed to run interference around second base then? If a player jumps to avoid a hard slide - can we grab and pull his leg down?
  2. What do you mean? Krylian said he thought the base runner should be able to do whatever he wants within the baseline...
  3. Perhaps I'm a bit off track, but you called me a softie, so I assumed that meant violence. What Utley did last year was gutless. He shouldn't be playing baseball IMO - but there are folks that love that and think it is needed in the game. Blows my mind. I'm totally on the "why is interference allowed at 2nd base, but nowhere else" train now. All aboard!
  4. So you think if a pop fly is going to land right in the baseline that the runner should be able to blow up the fielder? That's messed up. Man I really hate all this "pussified" "pussyball" stuff. Did y'all grow up in military families or something? Daddy yelling all the time about how you have to be a man and men do things this way? If there's not a chance you're going to break your leg or lose some teeth - it's not a sport son!!!
  5. I hear what you're saying - but why should you be allowed to grab his leg? If there's a runner on first, 1 out and the fielder grabs the ball in the base path and goes to tag you - should you be allowed to grab his arm so he can't throw to first? should you be allowed to run him over (Albert Belle)? Why would that suddenly be allowed if you're in the vicinity of 2nd base? I also think the league (rightfully so) will want to eliminate the "grey" area to the extent possible. If the 2nd basemen jumps to avoid the runner - can the runner grab his leg and pull down? Lets be honest, the Tampa player did a good job of getting "away" from 2nd base so he could avoid the runner and make a throw. Why would a runner be allowed to interfere with him (even if it probably won't hurt him)?
  6. I guess so. I don't think the beautiful game of baseball needs violence plays like that to make it great. MLB eliminated the collision at home last year and outside of the first few times it was called early in the season - I didn't hear anyone complaining...and rightfully so. I hope the same thing happens with this DP interference rule.
  7. I disagree. I think a lot of people truly hate the rule simply because they hate change. How many people have already said "since I was a little kid - I was taught to do this". I think if people have the ability to subjectively look at this - why should a runner ever be able to interfere with a fielder? I mean they shouldn't right? and they don't on every other play on the infield - except the DP ball (and previously on plays at home). Why was it ever allowed on this one play? Why weren't we taught to run over an infielder who's camped under a pop fly? Who decided interference is allowed on this one play?
  8. I know it's been happening forever - but why? Do we really want that in baseball? We can't interfere with a fielder trying to make a play anywhere else. You can't run over a fielder camped out under a pop fly, you can't stop him from fielding a grounder....why on earth should you be allowed to interfere when he's turning a double play? I want no interference on the fielders - let them make great plays and let them be safe while doing it. If you don't want to hit into a DP - then hit better!
  9. Lind was traded this year for a bag of balls. He was available (although given his history with the Jays - likely not an option). Jaso and Lind are 2 inexpensive options who are significantly better than Smoak vs. RHP. Your best argument is Smoak's defensive value makes up for how average his bat is. Another option is James Loney, who's is a year removed from a 120 wRC+ season vs. RHP and he was just released from the Rays. You could get him for the league minimum and defensively, he's as good as Smoak.
  10. Adam Lind () Logan Morrison Derek Dietrich Even Yonder Alonso is a career 112 wRC+ vs. RHP. There's 4 more options. Some may have required a trade and some obviously weren't an option (Lind) - but you get the gist.
  11. John Jaso. Career wRC+ of 127 vs. RHP. He signed for 2 years $8M....and could have been our leadoff hitter (.380 OBP last year).
  12. How's it look when you factor in Cola's regression? That's the issue. I guess the good news is Cola's BABIP vs. LHP last was "only" .362 and his wRC+ was 155. Here's hoping that even with a regression, he'll still be well above average vs. LHP and Gibby will use the platoon properly.
  13. I guess technically a wRC+ of 105 vs. RHP is "above average"....but I think it's a little misleading to suggest he's really an above average bat when you consider there are a lot of marginal/fringe LH batters who abuse RHP a lot more. That said and given how this team is constructed - I think he's fine at 1st; however, it would be much more desirable to have a more versatile platoon partner. Valencia was that guy - but he talked about money too much. Cola must have soft gums or something.
  14. Not a bad matchup for Smoak....this guy just brings the heat. Don't have to worry about the spinner Smoak..hit it.
  15. Have you not watched a Jays game over the past 3-4 years?
  16. one near Jose's hands too. Wild guy with a good cutter = bad combo.
  17. Thank god we weren't playing in Wrigley...
  18. They should get Pillar one of those helmets the pitchers are trying out...
  19. Longo needs a leg kick...
  20. holy f***...superman. and I used to like Batman more...never again.
  21. Was it confirmed the Bruce/Saunders deal fell through b/c something came up on a physical for one of the Jays (and not Saunders)???
  22. holy f*** don't make me explain this again you putz.
  23. Ok Chavez - strike time.
