  1. I think the board is simply rooting for a homegrown talent to bust through, recognize his potential and recuse this team from an Upton/Zeke platoon in LF.
  2. This sounds like an amazing year...
  3. This might create some funny situations where the defensive team is rushing to get set and throw a pitch before the other team throws the flag. I could even see them throw a intentional walk style pitch (which now no longer exists) just to avoid the challenge like they do in the NFL. They need to speed up the decision making - but I'm not sure a flag is going to work. No idea what the answer is. Could a clock start as soon as the ump makes a call and ticks down from say 15 seconds and they have to decide before that clock runs out?
  4. Chase De Jong traded to the M's for a couple of low A ball players. He would have been excellent depth to grab given our situation next year.
  5. You mean that cybermetric stuff??? I only listen to Bobcat to hear Stephen Burnt. I love Brunt.
  6. Pillar tried leg kicking last spring to add power and it didn't work. This year - shorten up and slap it around!
  7. I'm down in Port Charlotte Spats (home of the Rays/Stone Crabs); however, it is an amazing stadium. My favourite in the area. I was just telling my wife yesterday how I should take the oldest out and try to catch some of the practices!
  8. Took my 3 sons to the TB v. PHI game today. Sadly the stadium was empty; however, that allowed us to turn our berm seats into prime seats in the shade (as it was 28 today without a cloud in site). The stadium staff were great - showing my oldest boy (6) were to go for autographs. Poor kid stood there patiently as almost every Philly player walked past him (including JP Crawford - who's autograph I really wanted). Luckily Tommy Joseph came over and gave all 3 of my boys game balls. He was very nice, talked to the boys and made their day. Our 1 year old fell asleep on the car on the 20 minute ride to the game and thus his nap was cut short by our arrival. This put him into a groggy, zombie-like state so the wife suggested I take him up into the stands while the other 2 rug rats burned off some energy. With a nice breeze blowing through the stadium as the game started, I had a bit of a zen like moment - holding my 3rd (and last) born son as I watch my first pitch of the season. Nearly brought a tear to my eye. The snap of the mitt was loud today - music to my ears. I will do everything I can to help pass down the love of the game as days like today are simply the best. Jays v. Twins this Saturday. Can't wait.
  9. Because he was 24 and in A ball last year. But I like the sounds of 98 with a whip out slider!!!
  10. Good god that's an ugly print man. Best of luck.
  11. Does Tellez have an arm bar? I don't really see it, although I admit I need to freshen up on the matter.
  12. A HOF career cut short due to injuries. Sad. He was a gem and the face of the Mets.
  13. I think the invention of the curveball has hurt him more than the shift.
  14. Sir - everything that happens in spring training needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
  15. It's 1:05 and baseball is finally back!!! booooya
  16. Heyman reports the Mets seriously considered giving up Conforto for 1 year of JD Martinez before ultimately backing down. No idea why the Mets would trade an OFer for another OFer (when they are loaded there), unless they were moving Martinez to 1st base or something. Interesting though. Jays need to pry Conforto away from the Mets.
  17. I believe there's actually studies that suggest working fast reduces the chance of injury. From everything I've read, there's no advantage to working slowly. Pitchers are just dumb.
  18. Well that explains who their audience is then...No wonder I can't stand watching them.
  19. IMO, it's nearly impossible for Smoak to produce a higher WAR and Upton (or Pompey). His career high for a season is 0.7 WAR and he needed 520+ PA's to get to that. Pearce at 1st, Upton or Pompey in LF. Done. This is all a smoke screen because they want to ease Pearce back into a fulltime role.
  20. I think they simply plan on easing Pearce back into action and thus want to prop Smoak up a little in the meantime. Personally, I want to ensure Pearce is healthy enough to be playing everyday come August, September and October - so I support this approach. That said - I do think Morales can play some 1st base this year. I don't see why not (he probably would have the past couple of years on any other AL team if not stuck behind defensive genius Eric Hosmer )
  21. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/goodbye-to-the-least-enforced-rule-in-the-rule-book/ interesting article (IMO). I'm using this to promote my comparison of the NFL changing the extra point rule as well. I'm so smrt.
  22. Rule #1. The people you hear on TV and the radio are stupid. Stop listening to them.
  23. FFS - is this another one of those Shazaam jokes? Steve Phillips comes off as a massive tool.
  24. Found this - love Greg Maddux - this is cool. KB "do you still want the bat" Maddux "no"
  25. I'm not sure there's anything I like to see more than Tulo raking. When Tulo is raking - the Jays are typically in flight.
