  2. Most guys capable of giving you that will want + land starting gigs on another team. They either need to fill that role from within, or find someone who's never done it before with any success (and hope he can take a step forward)....Like say a Tim Beckham this year. Also a little unfair to rip Barney. He gave us 1.5 WAR in 306 PA's last year in that role, which was really solid.
  3. You strike me as the type of guy who would give up on your team after the first month if you had a slow start. Call it a hunch.
  4. Just watch the game and stop listening to what the players have to say. They rarely say anything relevant or interesting. Christ, the announcers rarely say anything relevant, accurate or interesting.
  5. But they have Heck now!
  6. Is it really a pain in the ass when compared to Hurricane Harvey? I think not. f*** the Rangers. Hate them.
  7. People are so dumb. Coors inflates counting stats. Walker's case for the HOF was never based on counting stats to start with. It was based on more advanced statistics. 1997 - 2002 was an insane run for Walker (minus the injuries in 2000). Slash line of like .340/.440/.670, wRC+ around 160. He was Mike Trout in 1997.
  8. Meh - it's a talent not doubt, but once mastered, the batter reaps the rewards. Results are results for me. If two players have a career wRC+ of 130 and one guy's a switch hitter while the other is a right handed hitter - I considered them equal hitters.
  9. Funny thing is - Martin's always been known as a "winner" and has stats to back that up (how many playoff appearances now on 4 different teams?). Molina's probably a better defensive catcher, but Martin isn't far behind. The wristy's that ESPN's given Molina over the year will undoubtedly be one of the main reasons why Molina will get in on the first ballot, but Martin won't. That's f***ing sad. Posey will though. He's miles ahead of Molina as a player.
  10. Why do players get a "switch hit" boost?
  11. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/giancarlo-stantons-shot-at-74/ Apparently Stanton "thinks that way".
  12. I was just pondering this today. He's turning 34 in 2 weeks and his career WAR is at about 52. He'd seemingly need to post another four 5 WAR seasons to get up to 72 WAR. Those would be his 35-38 seasons, so that's a lot to ask. His career wRC+ is 158. If we assume some decline, he'll probably end up around the high 140's - right where Bagwell ended up. It's going to be tight I'm afraid. Pulling for him though obviously.
  13. Is there any evidence on this (besides the actual HR numbers)? I'm curious if the new approach of so many hitters (high more FB's) is the primary reason.
  14. Just to clarify - I don't necessarily fall into someone "who thinks this way". I'm just curious if fans/MLB will make this a thing.
  15. Yeah I get all of that. I'm caught up on his statement that greenies are more effective performance enhancers than steroids. I've heard people say greenies are no more effective than caffeine pills, while others say they are essentially speed (I'm not well read on that matter, hence my request for a source). Perhaps this is just common sense, but if greenies are a massive performance enchancer - better than steroids or HGH, then there would be a lot more discussion as to whether those diagnosed with ADHD should be allowed to take them or not.
  16. source on these studies? I find it hard to believe that with today's knowledge and technology, companies would go to all this trouble to find a way to inject players with steroids and mask them to avoid detection when all along it wasn't the best way to enhance performance.
  17. I have no idea what this post is supposed to mean. Curious if the fans/MLB will start treating a chase to 62 hrs as a real thing...I hope it happens.
  18. How about 62? sans PED (assumed).
  19. I realise it's a very SSS, but what's up with Reese McGuire? wRC+ of 143 over 114 PA's. BABIP is only 0.291. BB%/K% are both on par with his career numbers, but his ISO is .245 (after being about 0.070 for his career). Has anyone caught any stories on changes he's made? or is this just a hot streak.
  20. I really feel like I know Morales better now that I know his nickname is Mo Mo. He's f***ing s*** At least there's a real baseball game on at 10 tonight.
  21. What difference is that going to make? We'd be 4 games under .500 with 7 teams ahead of us.
  22. Unfortunately, it basically was at the 15 game mark. The boys fought hard against the odds, but this was somewhat inevitable unfortunately. Man I remember trying to explain the merits of adding Morales, Pearce, etc. this offseason and how these smart moves would help offset the loss of EE, Cecil, etc. I remember thinking there was a good chance JB would come back with a chip on his shoulder and tear the league a new one. There was also information to suggest Tulo was unlucky last year and his wRC+ should have been closer to 120, which gave me hope. Holy s*** did that ever all blow up quickly. Now I have to go Page 2 of the Fangraphs page to even see how s***** Morales and Goins are. f*** sakes. Shatkins has some serious work to do.
  23. Tatis Jr. isn't far behind at 154 wRC+ in 518 PA's + 29 SB's as a shortstop. Unreal.
  24. Always loved Longoria and since my parents live in Port Charlotte for the winter (ST home for the Rays) I've been going to Rays spring training games for a decade now. I've gotten his autograph a few times and have always secretly rooted for him. I hope he ages gracefully (ala Beltre) and makes the HOF.
