  2. Yeah - I've been following that through FanGraphs. Quite concerning unfortunately.
  3. Speaking of Lopez and the Braves converting him to a starter, we've seen this happening more and more within baseball over the past 2-3 seasons and we may have our own potential RP conversions on our hands right now in both Hoffman and Varland (although Hoffman seems doubtful at this point?). The big names to convert over the past 3 years include: Michael King - there have been some injuries, but he's clearly the #1 success story, now in his 2nd full season as a starter. Seth Lugo - his transition has been generally positive, although his velo has dropped almost 2 MPH since he converted and his xFIP has risen each season and he frankly hasn't been very good this year (despite a solid ERA). Clay Holmes - it's been "OK" so far. Fastball is down 4 MPH from where it was as a RPer and his xFIP, FIP and xERA are all in the low 4's. Jordan Hicks - started out as a great success, but he wore out and finished poorly last year and now has been traded and is back in the bullpen. Reynaldo Lopez - he was great in 2024, but he died in 2025. I'm probably missing a couple, but those are the ones that come to mind. Based on this, do we think teams are going to continue to look for RPers they can convert? Will this trend continue?
  4. Remember how good that farm system was when AA took over? That was also right when John Coppolella received his lifetime ban for violating the international signing rules. AA made his mark when he was able to find loopholes in the CBA to rebuild farm teams. Looks like he needs to find one again. Luckily for the Braves, farm systems can change in a hurry. I'm an AA fan and I've always had a soft spot for the Braves as I grew up watching TBS while they were in their glory days - so I'm certainly rooting for them to figure it out.
  5. I wonder if the Braves will decline Albies options and let him walk. For $7M they won't, but he's been pretty awful over his last 1000 PA's. Riley's now declined for the 3rd straight season and is locked up until 2032. Michael Harris has also now declined for the 3rd straight season and is locked up until 2030. Harris probably needs a chance of scenery at this point. Murphy may never return to his former self and he's locked up until 2028. Murphy's decline is almost certainly due to injuries, but it's wild to see the other 3 just drop off so much. AA received a lot of accolades for all the core players he locked up and while most signed for below the expected AAV values (to his credit), it does look like some of them may became anchors. It's too bad, because it looked like a dynasty in the making. And while it won't impact the Braves future, is Kelenic and Verdugo finished now? That's pretty wild.
  6. 100% I'm fascinated to see what Davis Schneider becomes. He has 450 horrendous PA's sandwiched between about 300 incredible PA's over the course of his career. If he's a legit ML starter, or even just a really solid platoon/bench guy - that would be huge for the Jays.
  7. Yeah I know it's not that simple, but a heathy Santander plays LF/RF/DH (with Springer), Barger plays 3rd regularly (his best defensive position) and Clement/Gimenez slide to SS. Schneider may play more 2nd base all under this scenario. We have a lot of versatility on this team thankfully. We've played almost the full season without Tony, so you can just swap him and Bo from the 25 man roster and we can use positional versatility to replicate a similar offensive team IMO. You probably still look to add an offensive player to replace France, but probably be looking to spend most of the available budget on the rotation.
  8. Yeah that's fair. Maybe 105 is "useless", 110 is "disappointing" and 115 is "serviceable" He doesn't bring much else to the table (outside of leadership), so he needs to hit.
  9. Feels like a game you need to hang tight for the first 6 innings and then beat them late. It will be fun to watch.
  10. That's why I said there was risk in it, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect 2022/23 production (120 wRC+ bat). The Jays will have to evaluate that probability. I mean if he's not at least a 115 wRC+ bat, then he becomes almost useless for us over the next 4 years. That would really suck balls.
  11. Jomboy Media (@jomboymedia) • Instagram reel WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM 40K likes, 730 comments - jomboymedia on August 17, 2025: "That’ll be a suspension for sure". Victor Robles casually throwing his bat at the pitcher after being plunked (again and again) on a minor league rehab assignment. Yikes
  12. I agree. He's a really solid #4 OFer. Just keep him and milk as much value out of him as you can for the next 2-3 years.
  13. I was thinking about this the other day...wouldn't a healthy Santander essentially replace Bo's offensive production? We have a good offense right now and that's while getting nothing from Tony Taters. They are different types of hitters, but even if we get the 2022/23 version of him, he should replace a lot of Bo's offense alone. I would acknowledge there's a risk there, but it would allow them to focus most of their budget towards the rotation, which seems like the biggest need this offseason. I'm not suggesting we punt offense altogether, but I think the big splashes need to be on the pitching side myself. I think this is lining up to be a good position for the Jays, given the volume of quality starters hitting the FA market this offseason (as you noted).
  14. It's almost like the team has all that information on him and is adjusting when and how frequently he's used based on that information. How shocking.
  15. As a follow up - it was savant who ran the story and you know they have the stats to back it up. He may have holes in his swing and he may not be a perennial MVP candidate, but he can go get it in CF. https://www.mlb.com/news/pete-crow-armstrong-is-already-breaking-records-on-defense
  16. Some stories are starting to circulate asking if PCA is having the best defensive season for an OFer in ML history. I believe his DRS is at 19 right now, where as KK ended 2015 with 38 (a ML record - although I'm not sure they can apply that stat to historical seasons before that stat existed...) Top notch CF defense is simply incredible to watch. We're lucky to have had KK and Varsho recently. Also - Fangraphs turns 20 years old today, which is pretty cool. It's a Top 5 website for me personally.
  17. I think the issue is that Brown doesn't throw with the hybrid windup. His full windup starts facing the batter (and not in a set position). Therefore he doesn't need to declare with a runner on 3rd and therefore the umps got it correct and everyone involve on Boston (Cora, 3rd base coach and the runner on 3rd) need to learn the rules (as I also needed to do).
  18. Is this what Wyatt Langford is? No real advancement/improvements this year. 109 wRC+ in almost 1000 career PA's now. He's still young (this is his age 23 season), but I expected him to develop into a star player (potentially a superstar).
  19. It's kinda fun to go back and read through some of the old iconic threads like this. See what you and others were thinking about 5+ years ago. Maybe that should be something we do more often? Like once a month, bring back a really old active thread and mock each other about all the stupid stuff we used to say.
  20. That makes more sense to me. Thanks for clarifying. I wonder if there's debate if Hunter Brown throws from the set with a windup or not. Maybe that's why they determined it wasn't a balk? Just a guess
  21. Oh that's my bad. I wasn't even watching the game. I get sick of the GDT only knobs that infect those threads with their overreactions and doomsday nonsense. I do hope John doesn't allow Max to call the shots, but I do respect the dog in Scherzer to ask for it. He's certainly earned that right over his career and has been incredibly good as of lately. As a baseball fan, it's been so amazing to watch him in a Jays jersey, shoving like he's 28 again. And you know me, overly protective of the FO and management. Sorry it caused a fight.
  22. Yes. I think he 100% would have gone to get Max if he retired Shaw.
  23. How awesome is it to see Scherzer shoving? Incredible.
