  1. So much mindless b*tching. Vent boys vent.
  2. Volatile bullpens are so much fun. Everyone used to it by now? Nope? Right on.
  3. Gate 14 Podcast (@gate14podcast) • Instagram reel WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM 23K likes, 156 comments - gate14podcast on July 31, 2025: "Eric Lauer talks about the incredible 5th Inning smoke break in... Lauer talking about the 5th inning smoke break in the KBO. That's awesome.
  4. There are other ways teams score in the playoffs... Max has been incredible lately - I certainly want him on the rubber ahead of Lauer, Bassitt, Berrios.
  5. Looks like Charlie Condon has started to figure things out (140 wRC+ on the season). It's nice to see some things go right for the Rockies...
  6. I think it's quite close myself. The next 32 games will determine a lot. Big Dumper playing catcher is going to be a factor for lots of voters. Seattle has been pooh since the deadline though - if they miss the playoffs, that gives an edge to Judge.
  7. Man - I hope not. I'm a progressive guy, but I don't want to lose the history of the AL and NL. I get that logistically, some of it may make sense and balanced schedules and interleague play have changed things - but I think the history of baseball is sacred - more so than the other major sporting leagues, so talk like this makes me uncomfortable.
  8. It's funny, you know just how good he is based on the stats, but I was still blown away with how sharp and nasty he was the other night. I am a huge baseball fan, I love following the game and it's history, but based on the current status of my life (super busy) I simply don't watch a lot of baseball if it isn't the Jays. That change up is reminiscent of Zack Grienke's. It seems to defy physics to have their fastball at 92 and their changeup at 89 with that much movement/drop. I love it. What an absolute pleasure it is to watch both Scherzer and Bieber in Blue Jay uniforms. Some type of extension for Bieber would be awesome.
  9. Agreed.
  10. What's an extension for Varsho look like?
  11. Here we got - time to tee off on this bullpen...
  12. I like it personally. I like that it creates scoring opportunities. It does it's job quite well in the regular season.
  13. I don't quite get why "less vert" is more drop (ie Skenes splinker with 0 vert). 0 vert "sounds" like it has no drop.
  14. Is there a simple "dummies guide to pitch shapes" someone could provide me? We say his change went from 6 horizontal/16 vertical to 2 horizontal/12 vertical and that's "better"? I always thought it was like there's an axis and that for horizontal, one side of the axis is positive and the other is negative and the #'s represent the # of inches (?) that it moves? Am I way off base? I'd love to learn more about this as it's an area I'm clueless in [insert joke here].
  15. And sliderguy35 locks up the ROY for this forum - it's over folks! I got a little chub reading that post. Interesting that his change up is only 3 MPH +/- slower than the fastball. Reminds me of Zack Greinke...
  16. Can Basallo stick at catcher? I thought his defense was way behind the bat and that he might move to 1st (but that's scouting report is probably 1-2 years old in my head)? Perhaps the struggles Adley's had with the bat have the O's keeping Basallo behind the plate longer than expected? But what it up with Adley? He just continues to decline with the bat and is already 27. It's not completely the same, but this reminds me of Matt Wieters a bit. Can't miss catching prospect who never really develops with the stick.
  17. 100% he is. He's got more WAR than Vlad in 38 fewer games. He's playing like a Top 5 positional player in the AL right now. It's really impressive and fun stuff honestly.
  18. I think that's all fair. Turner's base running generates a lot of "value" for him, which is often overlooked to some extent when evaluating players. He's one of the best base runners in MLB over the past 10 years. He has seven 30+ SB seasons over the past 10. And the 3 seasons he missed that mark was 2020 (covid), a 27 SB season and a 19 SB season last year. He was super valuable on the bases back before they changed the rules to bring back SBs. He's a REALLY fun player overall and I love seeing him succeed. I hope he has 2-3 more "big" seasons in him.
  19. Do we think voters care about team success when voting on the Cy Young award? I do think it's a factor in the MVP vote, but I'm not sure it's as much of a factor (or a factor at all?) in Cy Young voting. At least it's not something I've heard people talk about before. I kind of thing if you factor team success into the MVP vote, then you should for the Cy Young as well. It feels like the word "valuable" changes people's perspective. Cy Young is just the "best pitcher", while MVP is isn't the "best player". I don't think it's a factor for ROY at all. Personally, I'd put team success very low on my list of factors for both the MVP and the Cy Young (and ROY) if I were voting.
  20. Yeah - I support those too. Collins probably factors into the NL ROY and of course Judge might challenge Raleigh for AL MVP, but otherwise, I think the rest are almost locks at this point.
  21. Some random observations: - J-Rod has been hot in the 2nd half and is reestablishing himself as a legit superstar - O's must be kicking themselves for trading Kyle Stowers - Perdomo, Jeremy Pena and Maikel Garcia all continue to hit at an elite level - I suspected regression from them, but it hasn't happened yet. - Pretty nice bounce back season for Cody Bellinger. I'm sure Yankee Stadium helps, but can't deny how valuable he's been this year. - Elly DLC hasn't broken out with the bat like many predicted, but is still a very valuable player... - Trea Turner has had a great season - big jump in defense (which always raises an eyebrow). He might be back on track to reaching the HOF one day if he can sustain this for another couple of seasons. - Shea Langeliers is having a career season. - sad season for Oneil Cruz. Change of scenery guy?
  22. This was discussed a couple of weeks ago I think. I believe someone advised they do have portable Traject machines now? Or will very soon?
