  1. The sad part it was my father-in-law who told me about the article. He said Steve Simmons ripped the Jays a new one and although he couldn't exactly recount which GM the article spoke about, he generally agreed with Simmons. Unfortunately, he's getting old and battling cancer - so I had to bite my lip and nod along with him. To be fair to him, he thought it was Pat Gillick that went from selling tickets and working on the grounds crew, before working his way up to GM.
  2. MLB should do something about this. It seems really bizarre and wrong.
  3. http://m.torontosun.com/2017/10/14/simmons-new-jays-uninterested-in-teams-history-promoting-canadians Steve Simmons isn't happy with Shatkins.
  4. That was painful to watch. The catcher goes to talk to Edwards, then the pitching coach during the same AB vs. Darvish? I mean FFS - he knows it's the pitcher and that he should throw a strike. Talk about adding pressure to the situation. If you have to go visit the guy when he's facing the pitcher who isn't swinging - you need to pull him.
  5. why would you want him DH'ing? He's a 100 wRC+ player. If you want him DH'ing once a week, we need a new DH.
  6. Sanchez to DH makes sense considering Ellsbury, Holliday + Headley can't hit. Might as well improve the D behind the plate.
  7. That more along the lines of what I was getting at. I know he projected as a backup before last season and all the reports said his bat sucked. Once healthy last year, he tore up AA in 150 PA's, with a high BB%, low K% + some pop like we've never seen before. I was just curious if he adopted a leg kick, or succumbed to the flyball rulz approach....something that might suggest the improvements are tangible and sustainable.
  8. 2017 John Lackey - FIP 5.30, xFIP 4.62 2016 Ubaldo Jimenez - FIP 4.43 xFIP 4.64 Maddon went full Showalter. Never go full Showalter.
  9. ohhhh. That's even better. Definitely something to watch for next year. High BB%, low K% with some power.
  10. McGuire really hit well down the stretch this year. Has anyone read anything about a tangible change that might suggest it wasn't just a hot streak?
  11. Equally awful. I expect more from our #1 foreign poster.
  12. I saw that and looked him up on Fangraphs today too. He's 6'5. That's all I could gather. Worth a shot on a short term, cheap deal.
  13. He forgot to do the double fist pump on the 29th anniversary of the Gibson walk-off. Thus, he is human. He missed a big opportunity there!
  14. Bergman hitting 7th behind Beltran?
  15. Man - Yelich would look phenomenal in a Jays uni....although he's a bit like Hosmer - needs to hit the ball in the air more.
  16. Hopefully he can improve his English too. Dat awful.
  17. Some of us need those dick pills man. WTF?
  18. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/job-postings-toronto-blue-jays-baseball-operations-internships/ Anyone looking for an internship?
  19. ^THIS. I actually had to search page 2 of the Nats fangraphs page to see how s***** Werth really is. They had 4 regulars post wRC+'s over 130 this year. None of them batted 1st or 2nd in their lineup. Dusty should be retire.
  20. You're starting to hear people talk about MVP awards these days. When discussing the NL, I've rarely, if ever, heard anyone mention Anthony Rendon, despite the fact he continues to lead the NL position players in WAR. He's had a phenomenal year on a 1st place team. Baseball is making strides to use more accurate and appropriate stats to evaluate players; however, it's clear we still have a long way to go.
  21. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=14161&position=OF Cool article on Buxton - who I'm fascinated by these days. I had no idea he's actually faster than Billy Hamilton and wonder if he'll be able to improve his base stealing abilities moving forward (to say become a 50+ SB guy). I'm really excited to see what Buxton can become. I'd love to see him develop into a 25 hr / 50 sb, 120+ wRC+ hitter who's the best defensive CF and best base runner in baseball.
  22. After his known struggles in July/August, Judge has posted a wRC+ of 176 in September. His K% and BB% are much improved and he's basically the hitter we saw from March to the All-Star break. Was his shoulder the issue? Did pitchers adjust and he's countered with another adjustment? It is just baseball's natural hot/cold swings?
  23. I'm starting to feel bad for Tyler Glasnow. He scraped the full windup after being sent down to AAA and the results were magical. Dropped his BB% and tore up AAA. Gets called back up and he allows 10 walks in like 3 innings. Time will tell if this guy will ever put it together.
  24. With Sano's out....bonkers.
