  1. dude - you misspelled 'two' and 'thirty'
  2. I just read something that suggested the plane he was flying was basically a sea-doo with wings.
  3. well that's painful to watch.
  4. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/what-i-loved-about-roy-halladay/ I thought this was well written. If you click on the story inside the story - it's well written too. It tells the tail of how Roy bought 60 custom watches for everyone on the team following his perfect game. It talks about how he insisted the "4 aces" be dubbed the "5 aces" and that Joe Blanton be included in everything.
  5. Here's a link with lots of player messages. I really liked the Dan Haren ones. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/mlb-community-reacts-death-roy-halladay-212404900.html Another thing I find ironic is that Doc was Charlie Morton's idol. Charlie changed his delivery to mimic Doc, which turned around his career and obviously just lead to Morton closing out the World Series in an absolutely dominating performance.
  6. I'll never forget that Friday night. I was at my good friends house for dinner. Just as we were finishing up I remember the Phillies first playoff game was on and that Doc was pitching. I remember being a little embarrassed that I'd forgotten the game was already on (knowing full well I wanted to see Doc's first playoff start), as we finished up and moved on to the couch to flip on the game I casually said - "Doc's probably throwing a no-hitter", because, well, he was awesome. I think we flipped it on in about the 6th inning and low and behold - Doc was throwing a no-hitter. Glued to the screen for the remainder of the game I remember being so happy for him when Ruiz somehow got that ball to first (after tripping on the bat and falling). Another great Doc moment I'll never forget.
  7. I have to share this story of Doc. I was in line at an autograph session in Dunedin probably 10 years ago now. The lady in front of me had this blown up picture of Doc in a blue golf shirt - it was huge - and when we got to him, she asked him to sign it. Doc was a little embarrassed at this large, rather random picture of him and he asked her where she got this picture of him and she said she took it at this same event last year. The player sitting beside Doc (Aaron Hill maybe) pointed out that Doc was wearing the exact same blue golf shirt again that day (that he wore to the event last year) and burst out laughing. It sure was a pleasure meeting Doc. I was star struck, yet he was completely down to earth. RIP
  8. So my wife is out at the movies tonight and I'm home alone with my 3 boys. I just had to explain to my 5 and 7 year old that Daddy was very sad because his favourite pitcher died in a plane crash. My 7 year old asked me why he was my favourite pitcher and I went on a 30 minute nostalgic trip about how great he was, not only as a pitcher, but as a person. He was EXACTLY the type of player kids like him should idolize. I told him about when I got to meet Doc and how I have his autograph. I told them how life is short and to be good to one another. I just got them to bed and watched Sportnet, which was showing clips from PTS with Zauny and then a round table with Campbell and Brunt and they were showing pictures of Doc with the sad music on and I just finish crying like a baby, all my myself (I think when the lead singer of your favourite band dies and your favourite pitcher/blue jays dies - you start to realise how old you are - and that's sad). I love reading all the great post about Doc on this board and somehow, I feel better now.
  9. Anyone else crying a little bit? I am. Grown f***ing man in an office with some tears in his eyes. Baseball is a beautiful sport and Doc was the f***ing best.
  10. Yeah that original report is updated now. HOLIDAY, Fla. - Eight-time All-Star and two-time Cy Young award winner Roy Halladay died Tuesday after his plane crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. He was 40. Halladay's ICON A5 light sport aircraft crashed 10 miles west of St. Petersburg at about 1 p.m., the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said. RIP Roy. You were the best. Now who cut the f***ing onions here in the office ffs?
  11. Man I urn for the day my kids are old enough to play video games like this. I haven't touched by PS3 since my first son was born 7 years ago. He's right at the age where I could probably introduce it to him - but honestly, I'm going to resist the urge and keep him away from video games as long as I can (knowing that he'll probably love them when he finally does get into them). At this point, I'd rather go play baseball with him outside...but I know playing video games WITH him is going to be awesome when we finally get to that point.
  12. meanwhile we get the on-going StroShow HDMH, shhhhh talk is cheap bs on our cover. Just f***ing stand there and smile man.
  13. Our GB pitchers be like:
  14. Padres may ask him to pitch too!
  15. Bearry 12:08 Guerrieri gets picked up by the Blue Jays. What's his deal these days? Big loss for Rays? Eric A Longenhagen 12:09 Probably not. Has had a myriad of injury issues, latest reports I have on his stuff aren't good, has had off-field issues. Pass.
  16. I'm so happy to see HR's and RBI's playing a massive role in these awards... Josh Bell puts up a 108 wRC+, 0.8 WAR season and gets nominated for ROY over Austin Barnes - 142 wRC+, 2.5 WAR Rhys Hoskins - 158 wRC+, 2.2 WAR The list of NL rookies who were better than Bell this year also includes Pina, Margot, Albies, Happ, Jose Martinez, Camargo, Almora Jr., Nimmo, Difo and Aguilar, Rivera But Bell hit 26 HRs and had 90 RBIs....and I don't care that he played 159 games. If he didn't, he wouldn't those counting stats and nobody would even talk about him. I mean nobody f***ing cares because Bellinger, but still.
  17. Based on his GB%, this guy must throw bowling balls!
  18. Actually - it's probably not for all the reasons that BTS said. Does that mean it won't happen? No, it doesn't, but it's unlikely.
  19. C'mon Scott Mitchell - this is absolutely non-sense "His AFL performance comes on the heels of a terrific 2017 season, as Case pitched to a 2.86 ERA in 66 innings, finishing the year one step away from the majors at Triple-A Buffalo." We're only going to reference ERA when suggesting he had a terrific 2017 season? Is it 1995 again? I mean great for this guy, I hope he succeeds, but he had an FIP and xFIP around 4 with a K/9 around 6. There's an extremely good chance he's a nobody.
  20. I wonder how much the White Sox FO believes in Garcia. He was an absolute stud last year after being awful for the first 3-4 years of his career. This reminds me of the Jays and Justin Smoak. Do you try and sell high and cash in now? or do you believe he's made tangible adjustments to sustain this level of play. Like Smoak, Garcia's under control for a couple more seasons, so unless they White Sox really think it's a fluke, they can take the wait and see approach. If he repeats, his value could skyrocket. If he doesn't, he'll have no value. To some extent, the Diamondbacks rolled the dice with Pollack and David Peralta - both of which reverted back to their "old" form (wRC+ of 100 +/-) I love watching these situations to see how they turn out.
  21. Yikes - these active threads are really cringy.
  22. This FO has made it pretty clear they want a better backup catcher. The issue always seems to be that nobody (good) wants to backup Martin. I fully expect what BTS has listed above to be their plan.
  23. Points out we need to improve the offense, suggests Dee Gordon - who hits like Pillar. Classic Key22!
  24. Take a look at the RBI's that Pujols has been able to rack up behind Trout - whilest being one of the worst hitters in baseball (that is difficult to type, but it's true)
