  1. Does anyone believe this actually happens? Do we have any reason to believe a FO makes a conscious decision to trade or sign a guy simply to appease the casual fan?
  2. FFS - I just ate guys. Seriously. He's a below average hitter, base runner and defender. He barely deserves to make a team - let alone be a starter. The only way this makes sense is if a prospect is packaged with him for salary relief.
  3. Maybe he's a fan of Fixer Upper. Chip and Joanne aren't far away. I love me some Chip.
  4. I think you need to look a little harder at it man. It's awful. I mean maybe if the Cards took Tulo's Contract in the deal too.
  5. Is Seattle considered a favourite simply because they signed Ichiro way back when? I realise the west coast is closer to Japan, but I have to think that's a moot point, given there are many teams on the west coast with the same advantage. Do Japanese people prefer rain or something?
  6. I'd love to see use get Hunter and Smith. Shaw's had a pile of innings/appearances. I don't hate the idea of him, but Hunter and his new cutter is comparable and probably comes at half the cost.
  7. I used to post on the ESPN blue jays message board before it died and I found this glorious place.
  8. Bring back Joe Smith plz
  9. I could watch videos of Doc pitching for days. This is my GOT.
  10. Grant Dayton signed with the Braves. He was amazing in 22016, but not so good last year. I don't know if he's damaged goods. It I would have liked to see the Jays grab him given how awful our loogys are.
  11. I find it increasingly hard to enjoy an NFL or NBA game. Maybe I'm just getting old. To be honest, I rarely get engaged in a MLB game (I mean pitch after pitch for 9 innings) unless it's the playoffs. Baseball is just the perfect sport to have playing the in background as I do all my adult stuff.
  12. It's f***ing embarrassing both that the Padres offered to pay him - and that Winfield accepted. Changing the rule based on one ******* is not a wise way to run an organization. People need some f***ing morals.
  13. This is from Rotoworld "Fernandez was signed for a $200,000 bonus out of Cuba last January and went on to bat .306/.367/.496 with 16 home runs and 65 RBI in 93 games between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City, but he basically disappeared in late July. There are no stats on the record for him after July 29. We'd guess there's a lot more to the story here, but the Dodgers haven't released any details." It's not often you release a player simply because he went MIA. I mean...if we could find him - it looks like the guy can hit!
  14. I hate to say it, but the majority of baseball fans are pretty ignorant on the matter. I suspect the vast majority give it 5 seconds worth of thought - go "cheating bad" and then wave their first and write their comments.
  15. Holy f*** - as if I need another reason to hate Joe Morgan. What a piece of s***.
  16. Except Harrison doesn't really have much of a bat. wRC+ of 98, 86 and 104 over the past 3 years.
  17. I tend to agree, but when you hit 50% better than league average - you get paid. He's basically where Giancarlo Stanton is going to be in 2-3 years (possibly when he evokes his opt-out).
  18. And they have Adam Frasier who could assume Harrison's role.
  19. Just because he'd provide similar versatility. Has Brett Lawrie made any suggestion he's going to try to play baseball ever again?
  20. Scarlett Johansson can play any f***ing role she wants thank you.
  21. I'm sure you get this Wok, but for me, this idea is based on the thought that starting pitchers are throwing fewer innings these days because the #'s support that strategy (ie, don't let the starter face the lineup a 3rd time + drastic improvement in the quality of the middle reliever) vs. the idea that pitchers are throwing fewer innings because their bodies can't handle it. If that's true - then let them continue throwing less innings/start (which they are already doing) - but start them more frequently. I think the premise with this strategy is you wouldn't necessarily be asking starters to throw even fewer innings/start (and thus adding innings to the bullpen). It's simply instead of having 5 guys average 5 innings per start (approx. 160 innings over 32 starts), have 4 guys average 5 innings per start (approx. 200 innings over 32 starts). That way the bullpen throws the same # of innings, but has an extra guy in it to help. 200 innings used to be a standard or goal for starting pitchers. In 2010, 45 starters reached 200 innings. In 2017, only 15 did. In 2010, 63 starters reached 190 innings. In 2017, only 19 did. In 2010, 73 pitchers reached 180 innings. In 2017, only 35 did. If this trend is all about strategy - and not about health, then this is a legit thought. Unfortunately, I fully suspect it's a bit of column A and a bit of column B - which clouds the situation. The other obvious issue is when you have an Ace who can go through the lineup a third time.....you can't have him throw 7 or 8 innings and then pitch again on 4 days rest. You'd probably need some swing man, or AAA starter that could spot start when needed... I don't think it's a terrible thought - interesting to discuss, yet unlikely we ever see it.
  22. This interesting thought just got buried in the s*** show.
