  1. I don't get this mentality. The baseball playoffs are a crapshoot. This team was projected to be a last place team, but they put together an incredibly fun season, finishing with 94 wins, an AL East title and a playoff series win. Even if we get swept - EVERY Jays fan should be super happy with the season and excited for what the future holds. There will be work to do this offseason for sure, but we have an owner who's willing to spend and we have a young core of players, plus a guy like Yesavage who we'll get for a full season. I'm sure you're suggesting it will feel long because this "feels" like a great opportunity to make (or win) the World Series - but you're not giving the Mariners enough credit. Most people felt they were the one team in the AL that worried us - and for good reason. Nobody should be surprised if the M's beat us and nobody should be upset or disappointed by this season - it's been one of the best seasons in recent memory and it was SO much fun to watch. But this series isn't over - we just need a W tonight.
  2. It is. But home runs often are inconsistent. If you get hot you're laughing, but if you're cold, you're screwed. So it has randomness in it too.
  3. The reality is that sometimes, even if you make the right move (which increases your chances of winning), it doesn't work out. Results aren't guaranteed. I expect JS to continue to make moves that give us the best chance of winning. I suspect the Gausman decision gave up a slight advantage, but I suspect pulling Trey yesterday significantly increased our odds of winning that game. There can't be some pre-determined decision to ride or die with Bieber because going the pen failed the first 2 games, or because he was a trade deadline deal. I know it feels like JS has no "feel" and we all point at certain games where decisions backfire - but he just lead us through a 94 win season and we beat the Yanks with a bullpen day. Most of these decisions end up giving you "slight" advantages over the other. Managers can't control all the variables that occur during a game, which is really what determines the outcome. I know fans struggle with that.
  4. Agreed. I think the Jays target some of the top arms in free agency this year. We're not really in a position to be trading good young position players. I'd rather just pay for an arm.
  5. The Gausman decision and the Yesavage decision were 2 completely different situations. There certainly was an argument to leave Gausman in Game 1 - he was dealing, albeit things were trending in the wrong direction. That was probably a coin flip situation. The Yesavage decision was pretty clear cut. He wasn't dominating - he wasn't even good. 7 base runners, including a HR over 4 innings. It didn't work out (obviously) and now the Jays are probably f*cked, but trying to claim the best decision was to leave Trey in that game his really dumb - even in hindsight. I appreciate that fans are going to, and want to vent, but that shouldn't be talking point. Make the argument that they ought to have brought someone else in. At least that's worth discussing.
  6. The stupidity level in this thread is downright embarrassing.

  8. Why did Detroit pull Flaherty?
  9. I saw him throw for the Mud Hens about a week before his call up. He was a man amongst boys. I expected he was going to the majors soon. What an arm.
  10. That's a big time throw. Wow
  11. This is insane. An all-time game
  12. I owe Vlad an apology. I've just never been a big fan of him - it's felt like all to often that he's wasting his incredible talents. He drives me nuts. That said, I was always optimistic that would improve with maturity and I was in favor of signing him to the $500M deal. Despite his inconsistencies, he was just too important to the franchise and still had the ability to become a consistent Top 5 bat in MLB. It is so awesome to see him performing in the playoffs this year. I hope this is a sign of things to come.
  13. I'm sure they are sitting slider. That's how good it is. It's like Kahle throwing like 60 straight changeups or Mo's cutter. You know it's coming, but you still can't hit it.
  14. This game has been incredible.
  15. I'm shocked they pulled him.
  16. That just isn't true. There are certain circumstances when it makes sense to ride your starter, but there are also situations when it makes sense to make the change earlier. Great managers don't just pick one approach and always go with it. They read the situation and make the call. Often the probabilities of having more success with one call over the other is 50/50. It's really unfair to judge them harshly based on those decisions. It's often a coin flip (or slight advantage). The best managers often just go on heaters.
  17. Broadcast is right. The other option was to walk Carpenter and let Kirby continue. Risk in that as well though - putting the go ahead run on base. I think bringing in the lefty is he right move. He's been so good and Carpenter is awful v. LHPing. Sometimes even the best (correct?) decision just don't work out. That's baseball.
  18. I agree. I didn't expect it to happen on that match up.
  19. There's a chance that Kerry Carpenter develops into one of the best hitters in the AL over the next 3 years. He's a stud. I think he takes a big step forward next year.
  20. Great play by Suarez
  21. Holy sh*t!!! What a game. That was crushed. A no doubter. Unreal!!!
