  1. So they let Waino hit with a runner on and in return - they he gave them 1 extra out. Might regret that call.
  2. Did they remove the virtual strike zone tonight to protect Joe West in his last MLB game?
  3. Did he actually infect others?
  4. Shouldn't he be in CF over Bellinger?
  5. Can you imagine being the owner who cuts a cheque to this guy? Good lord sir - you're the Joe West of broadcasting.
  6. This. Nobody wants Grich unless it allows you to dump even more salary and save money as you attempt to re-tool/re-build your team. Minny has some talented young players, but the pitching is a mess so I suspect they will re-build - which makes a JD reunion plausible. I think Grich + a mid tier prospect (Leo or Kloff) for JD could be possible. They save money and get a lottery ticket to help them restock the system.
  7. Great teams need good backup players. Having either Espinal or Biggio as our first infielder off the bench (who typically gets 400-500 at bats a year anyway) is the ideal position to be in. Not sure I see value in having both on the bench unless you dump Grich and make Biggio your 4th OFer / super sub. That certainly would be a sign we have a very deep and talented team.
  8. But the Rays are bad for baseball right?
  9. saw this earlier...he doesn't actually 'get on top of it' like you'd think. Even on a high pitch. - barrel in zone early and long = contact point can be deeper and still go “Yahtzee!” ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #baseball #baseballcards #baseballgame #baseballislife #baseballlove #baseballseason #beisbol #bronxbombers #dodgers #espn #football #homerun #majorleaguebaseball #mets #mlb #mlbtheshow #nfl #nyy #redsox #redsoxbaseball #redsoxfan #redsoxfans #redsoxsuck #redsoxvsorioles #softball #sports #worldseries #yankees #yankeesbaseball #yankeestadium".
  10. was it ever....brutal game.
  11. I love how ARod just told us that this would be a 4-3 game in 29 other stadiums...yet they already said the Stanton hit would have only been a HR in 11 MLB stadiums. Great effort.
  12. 1st and 3rd. Stanton wasn't going to 2nd on that (crazy fenway single!)
  13. Eovaldi out to bring in Ryan Brasier? Very odd.
  14. To be fair - the Yankees broadcast f***ed up the call WAYYY worse than Vasgersian. Hilarious stuff.
  15. It will depend on what it would cost. If you're getting him at the cost of a league average batter with great defense, then you do that with the possibility his shoulder heals and he returns to an MVP type player.
  16. 2 years $14M I think for Cron. Rockies are really building a juggernaut.
  17. Lionel Simmons missed 2 NBA games with tendinitis in his right wrist and forearm after playing on his Gameboy too much...
  18. And my point is that we lack depth. Going the depth route typically has less risk (as you avoid the long term, high $ commitments, which almost never work out), cost less and protect the team better against injuries (which should be expected). Oh - and ever once in awhile, you find yourself a top of the rotation arm. 1. Berrios 2. Manoah 3. Ryu 4. FA / trade 5. FA / trade 6. Pearson 7. Stripling 8. Hatch 9. ??? 10. ??? Signing a top arm would be great, but that may push Pearson/Stripling back into the rotation and if we have injuries, the cupboard gets pretty bare in a hurry. Also, keep in mind that Ray, Rodon and Gausman were all 'depth' signings with upside who became studs.
  19. fWAR also says Wade Miley and Ranger Suarez were more valuable than Gerrit Cole, Corbin Burnes and Lance Lynn. There are weird outliners in bWAR and fWAR. I think when I did the math, another 32 starts made by Berrios (20) and Manoah (12) provided another 4.5 fWAR. If I use the bWAR, they would provide another 4 WAR. I'm not sure I'm willing to expect much more than 4 bWAR from Ray next year....maybe you could bank on 5 bWAR, which means it's still 'close' to replacing Ray's value.
  20. I tend to agree - but who the F is going to pay Seager $15M coming off his age 33 season when his wRC+ was only 99 (counting stats be damned). He's clearly in decline and there's probably a strong chance he's a 1.5 WAR player who's below average with the bat next year. If you're getting him on a 1 year, $5M deal, then sure, that minor upgrade may be worth it.
  21. I may be mis-remembering, but I didn't think the qualifying offer (1 year $18M or get a 2nd round comp pick) was an option in 2018. Am I wrong (again)? If so, it does seem odd we didn't go that route.
  22. And of course he's the home plate umpire for the NYY/BOS wild card game tonight.
  23. Derrick Rose cut his arm, needing 10 stitches while trying to cut an apple - so it does happen in other sports.
  24. Full seasons from Manoah + Berrios (even when assuming no improvement) will more than replace the 3.9 fWAR Ray provided. What we're trying to do is replace the 32-34 starts made before those 2 arrived. IMO, it's more likely we can replace those starts in house (Pearson/Hatch/Stripling, etc.) or with a FA than it is that Biggio can replace Semien. Especially when you consider Stripling himself made 19 of those 32-34 starts and is still on the team. That said, we also need to replace Matz's starts (perhaps by re-signing him) and we really need to add starting pitching depth, which looks like a weak point right now. I could see us going with Matz and Jon Gray instead of Ray. Quantity over quality. We need some depth and while neither Manoah or Berrios are likely to be true 'aces', they are both top of the rotation guys. Some setup where Stripling and Pearson can be SP'ing depth would be ideal.
