  1. IMO, there's absolutely no need to force the addition of a LH outfielder - do we even have an OFer that we would regularly sit vs. RHP? I don't think so. I fully expect this FO is looking for the best value they can get. Right now we probably have DH covered between Kirk and Grichuk and I could see the FO hoping to strengthen that a bit as we don't want Grichuk getting 500-600 PA's again.
  2. No, no, no - if you name the 8 really fat guy (he forgot John Kruk and both Fielders), then that's justification that every fat guy can succeed!
  3. I don't really agree with that. There are some exceptions of course, but I thought in general the MLB HOF was always one of the very best.
  4. I mean is this the Harold Baines effect? If Harold's in, then so should Gil Hodges, Tony Oliva and Minnie Minoso? WTF? I'm OK with Kaat getting in... Is Minoso in because he's the first Cuban player to play in the bigs? Why would Hodges and Oliva get in over Dick Allen? Allen is the 18th best hitter of all time with over 60 career WAR, while Hodges and Oliva are around 40 career WAR. This is so bizarre. I hope these head scratching, moronic decisions aren't an annual thing. I guess it's good to know some of my favourites like Fred McGriff, Carlos Delgado, David Wright, Evan Longoria and Russell Martin will all be HOFers now too. Not to mention these players, who were all better than Hodges and Oliva: - Tony Phillips - JD Drew - Mark Grace - Mark Teixeria - Johnny Damon - Josh Donaldson - Ben Zobrist - Jose Reyes - Jose Canseco What a joke.
  5. Is this the "new thing"? Veterans committee electing solid, but not HOF players into the HOF?
  6. Marlins already traded for Stallings. I wonder if Kirk still interests them. I don't really know what Bryan Anderson is. Only 2 years of control. I think I'd need more back in return. Anderson and Edward Cabrera would be a lot more interesting...although we might have to sweeten our side.
  7. s*** - I didn't see Knebel got 1 year $10M to Philly. Dude to paid.
  8. Barnes is draining a ton of 3's over the past 4-5 games. Very encouraging.
  9. Yes. Between Groshans, Martinez and even Moreno - I wouldn't consider 3rd base an 'org need'. We might need a short term bridge, but I have to think one of those guys is going to be the long term solution, on the cheap for the foreseeable future. I'm not even sure SP'ing is a 'org need' right now. Gausman, Berrios and Manoah are locked in for 5+ years and we still have Ryu and Pearson with Hogland on his way. Maybe a hair more depth there wouldn't hurt. I think we need to find a long term solution in CF. I imagine Springer is moving to RF by next year.
  10. That's it - I'm off the Kikuchi bandwagon. Sign Rodon! It will be interesting to see if the FO chooses to try and land another 'big fish' or spreads the cash out in smaller chunks to shore up the back of the rotation, the bullpen and the infield.
  11. For f*** sakes - can't they think about the guys trying to book trips to Spring Training 2022?
  12. xFIP was about 3.83 over the past 2 seasons (200 innings) and throws 95 from the left side. That's all I was looking at (didn't really look into sticky stuff changes, but will take your word for it). I'm good with 3 years at like $30M or some 1 year prove it deal - but perhaps my comments are bit ignorant!
  13. Pretty easy to see him getting $27M per year in '22 and '23 and can opt out entering his age 33 season. Seems like a lot of $$ for Stro, even without the long commitment. Why is Chicago doing this? they aren't contending in the next 2 years.
  14. 7 minutes - jesus f***. This negotiation ******** is f***ing stupid. Lock the door and try to resolve something like humans instead of using tactics to get what you want.
  15. He turned down a 1 year $13M option in Seattle to become a FA, so a 1 year deal may cost us $18-$20M unless the market for him completely evaporates.

  17. I agree - I actually worry Freddie may impede our ability to be a sustainable winner. But I love him, so f*** it.
  18. where did he project for a 3 year deal? Freddie is going to land a 6 year deal. He's a stud, potential HOFer.
  19. I think you're grasping at straws man. The reason nobody brought up Smith playing 3rd is because that's a terrible option. That must be like the 8th best contingency fall back option for the FO. And I mean that will all due respect - I'd love to see Kevin Smith become a full time player, but we don't have the luxury of that being our first option given our place on the win cycle.
  20. I think you meant Freddie, but I like using that .gif
  21. part time 3rd, part time DH, part time 1st?
  22. Kevin Smith bats right handed and it would be really odd to pencil him in as the starter so you can push Espinal to utility player. Chris Taylor really is a perfect fit as he won't require a 5-6 year deal, or a massive AAV and he could move to 2nd/OF if Moreno sets the world a-blaze and takes over as our starting 3rd baseman.
  23. Who suggested that? We got a top of the rotation free agent starter and a compensation pick instead of just resigning Ray.
  24. I'll trade you my Brett Lawrie jersey for your Donaldson jersey
  25. I think this all hinges on the Front Offices evaluation of Moreno. If they believe he's ready and see him playing a lot of 3rd base, then I could see them go into the year with Moreno at 3rd, Biggio at 2nd and Espinal as the backup. You'd like to see them add a veteran who you could rely on if Moreno fails though.
