  1. Who doesn't like Aaron Jones? The guy is f***ing electric to watch. I've never seen a RB who averages over 5 yards a carry get so little attention. I guess he's like Jamaal Charles a bit? I totally get the hate for AR, but it was nice to hear and see good things with Love (said he's now a master of the playbook). At this point, I hope Rodgers is out for several games so we can see what Love is. Need to figure that out this year. Deal Rodgers in the offseason and let's move on Pack.
  2. He's due man. We're going to get 65 innings out of him this year and it's going to be glorious!
  3. I've thought of this also. If you traded for Nootbar and added Conforto (with Gurriel becoming the 4th OFer/DH), the OF defense would be much improved - whether Springer is in CF or in RF. Springer CF/RF Vlad 1st Conforto LF Kirk C/DH Bo SS Nootbar CF/RF Chapman 3rd Moreno C/DH Merrifield 2nd Espinal, Gurriel, Biggio, Util That's a sick, balanced lineup Bring back Stripling (or equivalent #3/#4 starter - or get sexy and get Senga), fix Berrios, healthy Pearson, win World Series.
  4. We're not adding a SS man. You're setting yourself up for disappointment if you think we are.
  5. RIP to Gaylord Perry. My middle son's name is Perry and I loosely say he's named after Gaylord (as my other sons are named after Greg Maddux and Josh Beckett). I must admit - I never realized how good Gaylord was. 100.1 WAR for his career.
  6. 1.35 ERA last year bruh.
  7. Good call! Nootbar was 64th percentile for Outs Above Average last year - so solid also.
  8. Sign this man. https://www.mlb.com/news/michael-conforto-could-be-steal-in-free-agency
  9. All interesting - thanks for providing the breakdown. Oddly enough - Teo was pretty darn close to O'Neill in those metrics (2019 he was 94th SS and 52nd OJ) and he's pretty awful defensively. Cards have rarely used O'Neill in CF to date, so I wonder if he has similar issues as Teo (which I think are primarily instinctual?). It would be fascinating to see what MLB teams use to determine defensive abilities (both current and projected).
  10. Sorry - O'Neill is their best defensive CFer? Didn't realize that. If he's legit in CF, then I could see them moving Carlson. I'd do Carlson for Jansen and Cimber in a heartbeat.
  11. Agreed. I understand it's a nice city and the weather is nice if you like it between 12 and 18 all year round. It's not as nice as the weather in LA or SD. Family matters though, so maybe that's a big factor for him. I still think he ends up back in NY. As much as I hate the Yankees, there's something about becoming the next yankee legend that has to be pulling at him.
  12. This is probably true and the Cards probably don't want to part with Carlson for the same reasons. I think the 'true' CF's reside in Arizona...but they may cost us Kirk or Moreno unfortunately.
  13. I don't understand the appeal of SF myself. They aren't close to winning are they? ML roster isn't amazing, nor is the farm system.
  14. He's kind of like Biggio - but with actual power.
  15. Yeah I'm good with that. I'm super curious to see if the Cards value Carlson a lot higher than they do Nootbaar. Cards don't really need/want prospects I suspect, but would people oppose to Jansen + Orelvis for Carlson? Maybe Orelvis no longer moves the needle.
  16. highly unlikely we'd get Nootbaar + given he has 3 more years of control.
  17. Sean Murphy is really good. A's would get haul for him.

You typically develop new chirps when things change and the original ones are no longer valid...
  19. So just to be clear - do you also believe Manoah is a 3rd/4th starter type and not someone who scares anyone in a playoff game? If so, this team probably needs to start rebuilding eh?
  20. IMO, you've been overly negative about almost everything on here lately. I don't think anyone still thinks Biggio is a core piece, but some did want to see him get another shot to see what he could be once he was healthy again. But you knew he was s*** the whole time so you get a trophy. Nobody really knows what Berrios will be this year. There are obviously lots of reasons for optimism he will come back strong, but of course his career could suddenly be in decline and he'll continue to stink it up. I just don't get why you'd set your opinion on "hopefully he'll be a 4 ERA/FIP pitcher, but the upside doesn't look good and you don't want him as a top 3 option come playoff time".
  21. FFS - he's been a 3.5 - 4 WAR pitcher for 3 of the last 4 seasons. He's entering his age 29 season and collectively, we're in an era where it's far more easy to fix a pitcher than ever before. There's so many obvious reasons to be optimistic about him returning as a very good #2/#3 pitcher who you'd absolutely want starting a playoff game - but oh no, the Grinch here has to spread his negative views on literally everything the Blue Jays do. Obviously there's a possibility you're right and he's a massively overpaid #4/#5 starter for the rest of his career, but that's probability is likely very low at this point. Perhaps it was better when you stayed in the off topic realm.

    Are new chirps really necessary?
  23. Fangraph's indicates Ryan's average fastball was only 89.5 MPH in 2008 after returning from TJS. I'm not sure how had he threw in 2006 (Fangraph's doesn't list that), but it's pretty crazy to think there was an absolute lights out closer in 2006 throwing like 91 MPH (my guess pre TJS). I know where they measure velocity changed and that changed the reference point a bit (still not 100% how much), but the increase in bullpen velocity has been absolutely massive over the past 15 years.
  24. That's pretty sad if true...but $19.5M over 3 years for a 36 year old first baseman coming off a .446 SLG% season has some (a lot?) of risk to it. Then again - lots of red on his Baseball Savant page, so maybe he is David Ortiz.
  25. Isn't Abreu replacing Yuli? Just put Tucker in there instead of Yuli.
