  1. Dbacks sure have to be regretting the decision to take Pavin Smith 7th overall...

I agree with this. It's very low on my list of chain restaurants to eat at.
  3. It's really f***ing sad if that's true. He played for 4 organizations. He isn't Edwin Jackson and wasn't a journeyman.
  4. Twins park in Fort Myers is really nice. I went to JetBlue (Fenway replica) like 11 years ago and would like to go again. I also want to check out the new Braves park in North Port. I hear it's really good. The park in Port Charlotte (Rays) is one I've been to 20+ times and always enjoy. G-Snarls (or at least I think it was G-Snarls) and I caught a game in Sarasota years ago and had a beer together. Another good park. To be honest - I think all the spring training parks are pretty solid. Always enjoy myself and love travelling around to see the different parks with my boys.
  5. Tim Anderson's ISO dropped off last year and he seems to be lost at the plate this year. Never liked him, so I'm cool with him falling flat on his face. Chapman is 15th in WAR (amongst positional players) across the entire MLB. Of course he deserves All Star Game votes. I also disagree that Pena should get votes at SS.
  6. Damiano Palmegiani with a nice start in AA.
  7. Just noticed Biggio's wRC+ in May is 127. Is there much hope that could continue and allow him to be a contributor?

Interesting - I don't follow hockey enough to know if this is a good thing or not.
  9. Bills/Chiefs are both apparently in on Hopkins, but sounds like his $$$ demands are too high. I'm not sure Nuke has much left in the tank...
  10. A buck a beer? Was Ford at the game? Man - this sounds like a retirement dream to me.
  11. I have to think that's how people in minority groups felt for decades, before people were willing to start acknowledging how poorly they were treated by society.
  12. What's a "two-up" bullpen session?
  13. I guess it depends on how long he plays, but he probably finishes his career with a career WAR < 25 and very well could see his career wRC+ dip under 100. There's no way in hell I'd ever endorse him making the HOF, not matter how much pitchers like throwing to him. WAR isn't mis-valuing him that much. You can't put Perez in while have guys like Russell Martin and Brian McCann missing the HOF with 54+ WAR (or even Posada). There's just no f***ing way. Any why on earth does team loyalty factor into HOF voting? It's the baseball HOF - how good you were at baseball.
  14. You should add Brian McCann, and possibly Joe Mauer to this conversation...
  15. Oh man - Salvador Perez is such an interesting case study. Some people think he's Yadi and a surefire HOF player - when in reality, he's been a 1.5 WAR player throughout this career. I understand the defensive metrics may not be correctly assessing his value and he may have leadership skills - but he's not a very good player and certainly not a HOFer.
  16. I really enjoy these types of conversations. This type of analysis is fascinating to me and a big reason why I love this message board. Do we think FO's are considering this type of thing? Does someone like Biggio get more rope because his skill set is so different than say Espinals? I'd love to know this type of thing. I think most fans think skill normalize after 3 at bats. See the GDT's for proof.
  17. Just realized that Ben Joyce made his debut yesterday. Cool.
  18. You need to get up to around .145 ISO before you start finding batters with a wRC+ above 100. Most of the players with an ISO below that need to be versatile, great defenders or good base runners to carve out a role in the majors. Horwitz doesn't really have those traits, so he's going to need more power than Cat to be a useful player in the majors IMO. I certainly hope he discovers more power and is able to!
  19. If Catalanatto has more power than you and you have no other well above average tools - than you suck.
  20. turrrible Game 7.
  21. Honestly though - can we all agree that players, umps, etc. have all adjusted now and you rarely see any violations? It's the same as the takeout slide rule. People lost their s*** for like 2 weeks then I didn't hear another f***ing word about it. Are there still people out there stewing over shorter games, claiming that if they buy tickets, they want to see a 4 hour game? Or did people finally come to their senses (or just give up)?
  22. No I think they've worked out those kinks. Speaking of which, it kind of seems like all the kinks have been worked out doesn't it? I wonder how many violations there are on average per game these days. I don't see people bitching about it daily anymore at least....freaking out like Game 7 of the WS is going to be decided on a pitch clock violation. Do people still hate it?
  23. Seems doubtful that it's sustainable, but Ryan Noda is currently really good. 147 wRC+ and 1.4 WAR this year.
  24. Since when is Bowden Francis a reliever?
  25. Same - I love seeing that type of history happen. It would be legendary for them to complete the comeback and then win the title - but I will be cheering for Denver in the finals - regardless of who wins tonight.
