  1. I'd honestly be really okay with re-signing Buchholz. I mean I wouldn't rely on him, but getting him for $3M on a 1-year or something appeals to me. Unless he wants a longer term. 2-year, $4M AAV? Dunno.
  2. I think with those numbers, he may. We may have something good in that kid.
  3. I like this article on Manoah and Pearson. Manoah seems like a good dude. He certainly says some interesting things. https://canoe.com/sports/baseball/toronto-blue-jays/throwin-manoah-blue-jays-top-draft-pick-fueled-to-bring-the-heat/wcm/9f6e62af-e42b-4ac3-94e6-ed78dd2f2b76
  4. Those four guys could be special. We have a butt load of decent back end starters, too. Come 2022 we may have a very solid rotation.
  5. I wonder if Luke Maile's days as a Jay are coming to a close.
  6. I mean stock market losses of course.
  7. Home runs. Losses. Injuries.
  8. Vladdy has preternatural baseball/hitting instincts by all accounts. I just hope he doesn't rely on his natural abilities too heavily, foregoing coaching, the video room, etc.
  9. I think the young, exciting Jays are catching everyone's attention and the team may have an easier time attracting top notch free agent pitchers than usual.
  10. I was thinking this exact same thing. I think it would be a class move. If handled correctly. I love Smoak as a player, but I think we can go for a DH/1B better than he and Tellez pretty easily at little cost for 2020+. CJ Cron was damn near free. Maybe take on a bad contract from some other team. Someone like Cabrera maybe? This also may be a horrible idea, but why not take on Chris Davis...and 1-2 of the better Orioles prospects for something like say a Tellez in the off season. High risk, high reward. The Orioles could pay down $10M/year, we get Davis who may bounce back with a new environment, new coaching etc., has okay defense, and 1-2 prospects for 1-2 of our B or C prospects that don't figure into the plans. Like Tellez and [fill in blank].
  11. Definitely. He needs to play the rest of the season if possible to see what we have there. I don't know how that would work with the current roster, but we need to either cut bait or make him a FT Jay.
  12. Is it me or does Fisher seem a little shaky on defense?
  13. That's exactly what I was thinking. The great part is we have most, if not all, of our position players figured out. Most will be cheap for years. A couple $35M AAV for SPs would seem decadent, but it's doable. We have a payroll with arb assumptions at around $54M next year. Add $70M for two very solid pitchers, and I think we hit where the Jays are willing to go until they are around a projected 87-90 win club by the trade deadline in 2020 then you may see some crazy adds. Dunno about any of you but Shapiro talking like that means to me Rogers is starting to lean hard on winning sooner than later. In terms of position players, if an awesome OF falls into our lap, I wouldn't say no. But you have to think between Fisher, Hernandez, Alford, Pompey, McKinney, etc., one of those guys will claim a full time position.
  14. i'm okay trading Hernandez to make room for Alford, honestly. *ducks*
  15. Meanwhile, the Jays signed Sogard to a minor league deal and turned him into two pitching prospects. Stop being a dick.
  16. I am looking forward to it, Todd. I like your POV. You give zero f***s about the others, many of whom chase each other's opinion to avoid be trolled and named called. Unfortunately I think you are correct about Alford. I don't see him in the plans at all.
  17. Man, not the way he is playing defense in LF. He is looking outstanding out there. Although I have no idea what is FWAR on defense is at the moment... McKinney to me is a total non-factor. And of course he just hits a 2-run smash lol
  18. We have Alford, though. Is Fisher > Alford? Is Alford a lost cause at this point? We have Grichuk and I presume Gurriel Jr in the OF long term. We two more positions. Do you guys think Hernandez can stick? He's playing better in CF to be sure. With the emergence of Gurriel Jr., I just don't see the need. Unless he truly has Upton upside. Maybe Hernandez is AAAA calibre and doesn't fit in long term. Dunno.
  19. SWR is 19. I think for him 2023+
  20. I forgot about Merryweather. And Pannone had a very good start, and some decent relief innings. I was thinking Luciano 2022+ on, but he's got to be 20 now, and he's had a stint. So good call there. There are a lot of pitchers to become starters...and the only sure ones IMO are Pearson and Manoah at this point. Sure thing as in ace-ish.
  21. So the next wave(s) of starting pitching...what are you guys thinking...assuming healthy (for hypothetics) Wave 1 (now and part of 2020) ----------------------------------- Wag Thornton Zeuch Borucki SRF Wave 2 (as early as June 2020?) ------------------------------------ Pearson Kay Wave 3 (2021?) ----------------------------- Murphy Manoah Wave 4 (2022+) ------------------------- The kids How do you see it?
  22. I thought it was Johnstone at first for some reason.
  23. If the pool A player return is solid, maybe do it. I am not saying it is the perfect move, but I suspect they legit want to start with a clean slate and will pay to start fresh. #hottake
  24. Sounds like bone spurs in elbow. Minor. I had them removed from my pitching arm and I was fine in a few weeks.
