  1. So how a guy performs as a youngster means that's the way he will always perform? #EE #JB #JD
  2. I thought the same thing! If I'm a GM, and have a LF need, I get this guy ASAP. A small 4-year (like 8-10M) might do it. He's a good clubhouse guy, and he's shown that he has some skill out there. Great bench piece at a minimum.
  3. Exactly. And baseball salaries won't stay static for 7 years. Perhaps a middling starter in 5 years will be worth $30M AAV with the way salaries keep inflating. Who the hell knows.
  4. So now, if we signed Leake and Shark and traded for Chapman (there are whole articles written about this possibility), I think we can still stay right around $140M with back loaded contracted. Leake and Shark aren't aces, but they can be solid 2-3's. And with Stroman, Dickey and Estrada, we'd be set for a while. I think we really need Shark. He has fewer innings on his arm than many pitchers his age. He's coming off a poor season, which means lower AAV over the term of his contract, plus he doesn't have any health issues. We lose a pick, but worth the risk.
  5. Really? Walker the SP from Mariners you mean? I'd take that in a second.
  6. Pompey, Hutch and what else would it take? Our farm is sort of devoid of good pitching prospects.
  7. We don't need him with Saunders and Pompey.
  8. That's because you're a nazi.
  9. s***. I have done three of those today. Am I now a mod?
  10. I didn't realize they were 10-5 players http://andrewstoeten.com/2015/06/11/allowing-bautista-encarnacion-to-acquire-10-5-rights-shows-jays-have-no-desire-to-trade-them/
  11. You don't? You're being obtuse. The Phillies inked players to long-term expensive contracts; players who declined at the same time. We are not that young, in fact the only starters at the moment under 30, position-wise, are Pillar, Revere and JD and Travis. Our current players are better than the Phillies you indicate, but they f***ing need to me. We're in the AL East. Different division.
  12. Because we don't necessarily need both of them, general fear of becoming the Phillies in that they are getting old and in decline, our GM...er President...likes to build a strong farm, we need pitching, there are some great younger guys out there like Heywood, we have a set payroll restriction because we're not the Dodgers, and we only have one more year of control for both.
  13. I've thought about Heywood for a while. I don't want to become the Phillies and I think we should entertain offers for JB. With Heywood for 7-8 years we're good out there.
  14. I really, really, really don't want to trade Pompey. He's got a lot of tools. And he's Canadian. And for those who say who cares he's Canadian I say FYSMC. I love Canadians. The more the f***ing better.
  15. Lackey is a guy who I am thinking more and more about. What would be reasonable for him, 2-year, $20M? He's 38 I think.
  16. Since I don't we will sign any aces for the rotation, I see some 2nd tier guys that would do well here I think. Cliff Lee (if he doesn't retire and if he passes a medical) Santana (if he doesn't retire and if he passes a medical) John Lackey Kazmir Iwakuma Rich Hill - closer to 3rd tier, but looked awesome for Boston Colon Shark - closer to 1st tier We could easily have the oldest SP in the major with a couple of these guys and Dickey, but the contracts would be 1-3 years and not overly expensive.
  17. Signing Heywood, and then trading JB for prospects would be great.
  18. That velo is real, but I suspect he`ll have to bring it down a few ticks to be a starter again, like where he was before. I dunno if that works. But maybe he can try it in ST.
  19. LaCava would be a convenience hire, but he seems solid and would have the loyalty of the staff. I love Francona as manager. Francona, LaCava and Shapiro means we come out ahead, definitely. And watch for Rogers to mitigate this PR disaster with some big name signings. Hey, do any of you think Price's agent talked to Shapiro and said Gibby was awful, and I want to sign, but only if he's gone?
  20. Rogers/Blue Jays have the option of asking MLB to help out with the currency exchange. IIRC they turned it down a number of years ago, but with the exchange as bad as it is I hope they ask for it again.
  21. Still can't believe we got rid of Valencia. Why did this happen again?
  22. I think one really good pitcher, and another solid pitcher and we're good. I'd like to keep one of Sanchez and Osuna in the 'pen. I wonder if Hutchinson would thrive in the 'pen?
  23. Because I'm an armchair baseball GM, this is what I do with the Jays this offseason... First, I give AA a long-term, lucrative offer. He's a top 5 GM for me. Speaks French, loves it here, etc. And his best days are in front of him. Gibbons, geez. I don't know. I'll let you guys decide that one. I would like the Jays to go after Price and Zimmerman. Those two, with Osuna Dickey and Stroman, make up a great rotation for me. But I would be happy with Shark over Zimmerman. I'd offer either Shark and Zimmerman decent 6-year deals to get 'er done. And not to be captain obvious, but going after one decent lefty for the bullpen would be great. Re-sign Cecil please. Hire Hawkins to be the bullpen coach or something. I do not trade Sanchez. No way. I like Revere, seems like a great guy, all heart, loved by teammates, etc. But he's redundant. Pompey for me has more ceiling so he's my everyday LF. I would not sell high on Pillar, in that I do not think we've seen his ceiling. Bautista will come back stronger than ever in RF because (1) it's his contract year, and (2) he's very proud, and was probably a little embarrassed how he looked compared with the speed demons to his right. I pick up Dickey's option. But no Thole. Jiminez is my backup C for next year. And to make the lineup more of an arcade game lineup, and if Rogers feels they've made a s*** ton of money, throw some at Upton, Cespedes or Heywood on a big deal. And then trade one of Pillar or Pompey. Or not. I dunno. But I think that either EE or JB, or both, walk after 2016, so whoever is signed here will effectively replace his bat in the lineup come 2017. I would make a BIG push to re-sign Izturis. Just kidding.
  24. And his hitting will improve. And he's cheap, letting the FO spend on other players. Yeah, he stays for shizzle.
