  1. I think the Blue Jays should come back and beat the Yankees tonight instead of tanking (they just added 4 runs to make it closer at 6 - 4)
  2. This really hurts the team. In my opinion it is worse than losing Bautista. Kevin Pillar has a fWAR of 2.6 in 443 plate appearances - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=12434&position=OF Jose Bautista has a fWAR of 0.7 in 346 plate appearances - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1887&position=3B/OF
  3. Very impressive, you just typed an entire sentence. You're making progress, usually you communicate in one or two words.
  4. I wasn't sure, but I thought that we would see the Upton that played for Tampa Bay. At least I expected him to be as good a hitter as Darwin Barney, instead he is making Josh Thole look like a productive hitter. I am still hoping that Upton can get back on track. Upton was an everyday player for several years but there isn't an everyday opening in Toronto, so the answer is no, however we can expect him to perform like an everyday player.
  5. Good description. One difference is that when Smoak swings and misses he takes a mighty swing. Upton's swings look so weak.
  6. Upton has really looked bad at the plate. I remember him playing against the Blue Jays when he was with Tampa and he seemed like a good hitter. What's up with Upton? Here is tonight's lineup:
  7. Isn't all this snark about Ryan Goins going just a bit overboard? This is a minor league thread. If some sarcastic posters want to give confidence levels on their future predictions then that is acceptable, statistically speaking. Otherwise, some posters who think they are sabermetrically smart, probably just don't understand the difference between past "absolute" statistics and future statistical predictions.
  8. Ryan Goins is a star at AAA. Too bad he looked so bad in the Monday game in the big leagues. Unless Ryan Goins re-learns to hit away pitches to the opposite field like he was doing last year, then AAA will be his perennial home. I think Ryan Goins should watch game tapes of Devon Travis, which is like a text book example of how to hit.
  9. Regarding the Roger Centre, I am amazed at the interior changes over the past 2 years; the concourses looks clean, bright and more modern, the dirt infield and new turf have made a huge improvement on the interior appearance of the stadium. Looking at reviews from tripadvisor, people from the States and other countries seem to enjoy the Rogers Centre experience - https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g155019-d156878-Reviews-Rogers_Centre-Toronto_Ontario.html
  10. I hope the Blue Jays will continue to carefully monitor Donaldson's playing time and give him as much rest as possible without hurting their playoff chances. In Houston, maybe Barney could start at 3rd for a couple of games and then have Donaldson come in late in games when required.
  11. His defense has really improved over the past year. I think he is an above average defender now. Maybe someone knows which stats best quantifies his improvement in defense since last year. The one that I looked at was the def portion of fWAR of 5.3 in 203 plate appearance in 2016, versus 3.0 in 238 plate appearances in 2015. And then there is the eye test; he looks much better on defense this year. His defense has been great and he is a very smart hitter. Also a humble but energetic personality. What an excellent pickup.
  12. No, it is good news. However, I can't see the Blue Jays needing either player unless there is an injury. If Goins will sit on the bench for 95% of the time with the Blue Jays then it is better for Goins to get regular playing time with Buffalo so he can work on his swing.
  13. Chris Colabello is starting to get his hitting average well above the .200 level with some power. Ryan Goins has a batting average over .300. Perhaps Goins has changed his hitting approach back to last year's approach and is hitting more balls to the opposite field? (does anyone watch AAA games so they can answer this question?) In any case, I don't expect Colabello or Goins to be back with the Blue Jays before September, which is best for both players and the Blue Jays.
  14. Nice work by the bullpen.
  15. Nice throw by Pillar.
  16. So far he has looked worse than Goins who is in AAA.
  17. Isn't his average about. 200 hitting leadoff?
  18. Happ has been amazing this year. What a great addition to the team.
  19. If Upton can't hit can he be sent to AAA? It looks like the Orioles are in a tail spin. This will be their 5th straight loss and with Sanchez pitching tomorrow it will likely be 6 straight losses leaving Toronto.
  20. The Blue Jays are now averaging 40,036 per game at home for 2016. They are first in attendance in the American League and fourth in all of the MLB - http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance
  21. What can be done with Dickey? I would rather have Drew Hutchison or Jesse Chavez starting instead of Dickey.
  22. I am glad that I am not watching this game and just following the score. Another typical Dickey game; why didn't Gibbons take him out after 5 innings. If the Blue Jays come all the way back then I have it PVR'ed for when I get home.
  23. Based on this tweet by Bautista, it seems that he will be back tomorrow (Monday):
