  1. Dickey out for the 7th to face the Astros third time through lineup. Gibbons is a manager from another decade, there's a reliever revolution that's going in baseball and he's blissfully unaware. Even with our mediocre bullpen this is a bad move
  2. Votto's the definition of class
  3. I think it almost certainly will not happen, he's just too old to not take the years. Even with Bautista's ego its hard for a 36 yo to take a QO in hopes of a bigger payday in the future. Also, i think Jays fans are underestimating how much respect the market will give Bautista.
  4. yup, its 2 decent prospects and a shot at Liriano turning it around at the expense of ~18 million in payroll(this year and next year combined) and Drew Hutchison Looks like a good trade for us atleast
  5. don't know anything about them other than my impressions based on stats but McGuire seems like a more valuable prospect than Ramirez. He's 6 months younger, plays the most premium position and is only a modest improvement in power away from being a good player because everything else looks solid
  6. Reese McGuire was ranked 49th overall in a purely stats based ranking http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/an-improved-katoh-top-100-list/
  7. 2nd prospect is Reese McGuire http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa737505&position=C
  8. because i was responding to a specific point raised by the poster? Liriano going forward is a decent bet to pitch better than he has, and the prospect we got seems interesting at first glance atleast.
  9. Projections have Hutch at 4.32 xFIP, that's a 5th starter at close to min salaries, its not nothing. Liriano has pitched worse than that this season
  10. Rated 4th(scouting) and 9th(statistically) best Pirates prospect preseason, he's having a somewhat mediocre season in AA though http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/evaluating-the-2016-prospects-pittsburgh-pirates/ http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/katoh-projects-pittsburgh-pirates-prospects/
  11. that sucks, Drew Hutchison is a solid #4/5 guy with 2 years of control left( probablyat dirt cheap prices), you need those kinds of guys. Liriano can turn it around and be a better pitcher but a decent piece like Hutch is not worth it.
  12. Depending on the price, it might be a good gamble, he put up 3 good seasons before stinking it up this year
  13. no reason to assume its a big piece going the other way, Liriano is broken now, he doesn't have that kind of value
  14. that would not be good, Hutch as much as i dislike him these days might be the better pitcher
  15. Smoak isnt a good hitter for a 1B but he's a much better hitter than Upton is
  16. no, that's so gross. Syndergaard is an electric talent, i hope he has the hall of fame career he's capable of having.
  17. well lets hope so, as a fan i would obviously be happy with that but do you think its crazy to think that the command might be a real age related decline and not just the variance we see with relievers?
  18. you and I have disagreed quite a bit in the last few days but thank you for bringing some perspective here.
  19. holy crap, i've said some crazy things in the past but people are actually jumping on me for suggesting a 39 year old reliever might not turn it around. How is that controversial at all?
  20. simple command? The walks were up a bit last year too and they're obviously THE issue now, you don't think it could be an age related decline?
  21. just because one reliever may have peformed a midseason turn around doesn't mean they all will. Its not like i don't want Benoit to succeed but it isn't just velocity, the guy is 39, there's other types of declines that you won't see in the velocity charts. I think people are overhyping the move though, he's gonna be used in extremely low leverage situations, won't swing the pendulum one way or the other, its mean to be a minor move.
  22. meh, we're just exchanging one declining reliever for another
  23. God, the inevitable 1 run loss will hurt so much more now
