  1. I'm saying that most prospects who begin their careers in teh bullpen are failed starters in the minor leagues, e.g Dellin Betances . Teams sometimes see their bullpen success as an indication of improved skill and not the fact that pitching in the bullpen is easier. So they might give guys a chance to start and many of them fail. That explains most cases where guys who were initially in the bullpen fail as a starters when they get promoted. Osuna on the other hand is not a failed starter, anywhere.
  2. Cecil had 17K's and 4 BB's in 15 innings in the months of April and May. He was not awful. He did surrender 3 homeruns but that could just be explained by the normal variance in HR/FB rate. Osuna had 25K's and 7BB's in 25 2/3 innings. They both had similar ratios. But the difference was Osuna's homerun "problems" came later in the season when he surrendered 4 in September.
  3. It was partly bad because of Alex's(and Gibby's) own making, by demoting relievers based on one appearance(Cecil) and putting faith in a guy like Castro when it was apparent he wasn't even ready for A+ ball let alone the big leagues. BTW, Hendricks was consistent all season and if i remember correctly either put up similar or better numbers than Osuna. And also if you remember we flat out let a couple of relievers go on waivers when there was a good reason to believe they could have helped us, over a guy like Castro.
  4. Alex Anthopolous is no longer the GM of the Jays, there's no reason to beleive Shapiro will support depreciating long term assets for marginal short term gains. Its kind of amazing how everyone thinks AA "got it right" on Osuna because he had a decent season in the bullpen. He might be more valuable to the Jays right now if he threw ~120 innings in A+ and AA and put up good numbers.
  5. Well most prospects who are initially put in the bullpen have struggled as starters so that doesn't tell you a whole lot. Osuna on the other hand has never been given a chance to fail. I honestly think he should be untouchable or close to it. The kind of skills he's displayed at age 20(a young 20 too), you gotta roll the dice and see what he does instead of presuming he's at his "peak"
  6. Moneyball is a great movie, some of you have no taste
  7. I don't even like reading a lot of sportswriting but i loved Grantland. And their TV and Movies stuff was amazing.
  8. Pythag is for suckers, the Jays were not as good as their run differential. Their baseruns suggested that they were only a slightly better team than their actual record. Make no mistake about it, the odds of the Jays going on teh kind of run they did were very low. The fact that it worked out should not be used to justify AA's gambles.
  9. agreed completely, this fanbase is still on the post season high and not able to think clearly right now.
  10. That isn't Shapiro's style, so i don't know where people are getting this from. Antonetti had quite a bit freedom in Cleveland under Shapiro, he's not a micromanager but like any other President he will have veto power and also the authority to dictate the general direction that the franchise should be going in. It appears to me that AA wanted to be the ultimate authority on baseball decisions, so in reality he wanted Shapiro to be his puppet and a President in name only not the otehr way around.
  11. Yeah, trading a future perennial cy young candidate and a pretty good catcher for an innings eater was an impossible trade and yet he pulled it off.
  12. I think your arbitration numbers are way off, David Price this past spring just set the year 4 record at $19.75 million. His arbitration salaries will be closer to 12-16-22. Arbitration is all about precedents, player skill is not the only factor, what you "deserve" is irrelevant And 35 million a season at 34 is also probably off, age plays a huge factor in FA, he won't get that amount.
  13. Lets say he would have earned $50 million in arbitration(12-16-22), would he really get a 5 year 150 million dollar contract for his ages 34-39 seasons ? We're probably better off taking it year by year, lets see how he ages in the next three seasons.
  14. Well, whatever AA's reasons for leaving are i am personally not that concerned about losing him. The team had to go on a historic run to justify the gambles he took at the trade deadline and this isn't even considering the moves he's made before this season. I know history will probably mark AA down as some kind of a genius that finally delivered the playoffs in Toronto but if you take an objective look at his time here he was nothing more than a dime a dozen mediocre GM.
  15. The most devastating part is just thinking about how long it will take to go on another run like this. The Yankees and Red Sox will load up
  16. I personally don't really have faith in Gibbons to make obvious moves like that, he manages like he's managing a different sport sometimes.
  17. Martin, Pillar and Goins I guess this would be a comeback for the ages if it happens
  18. that was a good AB by Cain, Osuna did okay there
  19. Osuna scares me here, don't over rely on the FB here, its what's killed him many times before
  20. Gibbons literally broadcasted on national TV that he's gonna go to Stroman after Osuna if the game is till tied. Apparently Lowe and Hendricks having phenomenal seasons counts for nothing.
  21. Hendricks has given up 2 homeruns in 700+ fastballs. He has a good groundball rate, Osuna is the real threat to cough up a homerun
  22. Hendricks leads teh Jays relievers in WAR and has a 2.82 xFIP with only Cecil's being lower. Can someone explain to me why that useless f*** Gibbons thinks he's only good enough for middle relief?
  23. What the f*** is wrong with him, its almost like he goes out of his way to complicate things and f*** things up. Hendricks and Lowe are good relievers, they're probably better pitchers coming out of the pen than Stroman
  24. what the f*** is Gibbons talking about? Stroman? Hendricks and Lowe are good relievers you stupid f***
