  1. complete nonsense. To what degree of certainty would you say LaCava can pick up someone as good as Hendriks for nothing? Its true that lucking into a good reliever is easier than it is with a starter or a position player but you can't do it at will like BTS said. Its no reason to give up good assets for 10 cents on the dollar.
  2. lucking into a good reliever and finding one when you're looking for it is not the same thing. The Jays lucked into Hendriks but if they're looking to replace his production right now at 4 years of control they'll have a tough time finding it. How many relievers are out there that equivalent to Hendriks with 4 years of control that we can get for Drew Hutchison? edit: should say one year of Drew Hutchison
  3. interesting logic, how can you be a volatile reliever while only having relieved for a year? All RP's are volatile anyways, it doesn't mean you sell them for 10 cents on the dollar which is what the Jays did right now.
  4. Good controllable relievers don't grow on trees, the Jays just filled one hole by creating another.
  5. If Hendriks was valued properly then how the hell did we end up with one year of Jesse f***ing Chavez? I guess we'll agree to disagree.
  6. Ofcourse they do, putting up elite numbers as a middle reliever doesn't get you noticed as much as it would if you were a closer or a setup man. People have this idea that GM's around the league are incredibly smart and make decisions in a thorough and analytical manner but perception and reputation matters. If Hendricks was our setup man last year and put up the same numbers, he'd be one of the more sought after controllable relievers in teh league, which is probably what will happen if he has another good year and you know Oakland will use him properly.
  7. I didn't mean to imply that Sanchez should start, he's just horrific in that role. Ideally he should be traded, i don't like him in the bullpen either. Osuna should start, that is pretty much a given. As to how to acquire starting pitching, i feel this way too big of a price. You're not appreciating how valuable Hendriks is.
  8. This is just not a good time to sell on Hendriks, the league doesn't know how good he is because that imbecile who calls himself a manager used him as a middle reliever. Just watch Billy Beane flip him next year or the year after for a much better package than Jesse Chavez. I'm f***ing pissed right now, what the hell is Shapiro thinking.
  9. Even more disturbing is this pretty much guarantees that Sanchez will continue to be treated as some sort of an ace reliever. And i have a suspicion this will seal Osuna's fate in the bullpen
  10. what a horrible deal right of the bat from LaCava. Hendricks was our best reliever last year and everything about just screams legit to me. Forget the controllability, Chavez might puts up a lower WAR next season.
  11. lol, Navarro is f***ing terrible, even for a backup catcher.
  12. The baseball hall of fame is a joke, putting Ortiz in there over Martinez would be consistent atleast in how they approach things.
  13. I signed up in May using a targeted offer for around 50 something for the whole season. Right now i'm not seeing the cancel auto renewal button. Here's what my audio/video subscriptions page says Subscription Status Your 2015 MLB.TV Premium Yearly subscription is active Your MLB.TV Premium Yearly subscription will not automatically renew prior to the beginning of LIVE Spring Training games, on or about February 28, 2016 at the previous year's regular full yearly price The regular full yearly price of 2015 MLB.TV Premium Yearly is $129.99 If you wish to cancel your subscription, click below but i don't see a button Anyone else having the same problem? Maybe i'll email CS and make sure that my subscription won't be renewing automatically, i've been burned before with MLB.TV for not remembering to cancel before the deadline
  14. In the context of where his career is right now and the upside of waiting, $5.8 million isn't that much to risk, especially when a 1 year 10 million deal is the worst case scenario. More likely, if he waited and didn't find a long term suitor he could have found a 1 year deal in the 12-15 million range no problem. Boras isn't stupid, remember he's risking 1/10th(or whatever his rate is) of what Weiters would have been giving up but the chance to get a "fair" long term deal with the worst case scenario being another one year deal should be a gamble worth taking on.
  15. I agree, this is one of those scenarios where Boras' aggressive style actually makes sense.
  16. Rejected the QO doesn't mean you can't sign a one year deal if nothing big comes your way. It would have kept his options open, that's why the MLBPA and Boras in particular don't like players accepting QO's. The worst case scenario for Weieters would have been a one year deal with a small paycut, around ~10 million. And there might have been a chance for him to snag a good long term deal.
  17. Wieters was probably the number 1 candidate to accept the QO if he wasn't a Boras client. Everything about his situation pretty much dictates that he accept, but Boras is notorious at bending clients to his well, i guess he wasn't successful this time.
  18. I'm guessing Estrada and Anderson. Kennedy maybe, Weiters would have if he wasn't a Boras client.
  19. Is the consensus that Davis will only get about 80 million? I would be shocked if that was the case. I think 120 million is what you're looking at.
  20. A one year deal at 15 million isn't that much of a risk these days. What the hell does it buy you on the FA market, not much, basically a guy like Rasmus who will put up averagish numbers.
  21. There will be a couple more by tomorrow evening
  22. If Shapiro really does intend on taking on the traditional duties of a GM then i would be pretty happy. He is far too talented to be wasted in the role of liason between the baseball people and the Rogers which is basically what Beeston supposedly did.
  23. Well i can't speak for anyone but i believe the poster intended to say that we wouldn't spend any significant amount of money on FA.
  24. There's reasons to believe Russ Martin was an exception. He was the biggest FA signing since AJ Burnett and even then Jays had to go with an extremely back loaded contract to fit him into the short term payroll. Martin was just one of those guys AA was obsessed with, that's what drove the signing and not any change of attitude towards FA spending. The numbers just don't add up, there isn't any money to make splashes in FA if there isn't a payroll bump.
  25. He first lost his job 4 days into the season. Someone mentioned he was awful early and he wasn't. http://www.torontosun.com/2015/04/09/jays-turn-castro-as-closer-demoting-cecil
