The winning run was arguably scored as a result of the "single" that Howard kneed against the shift. There's all the proof you need that this one-run game count everyone has going is just a couple-of-bounces-didn't-go-our-way ticker. Considering how much of baseball is just a hope and a prayer that your percentages work out, it's basically a s*** luck counter.

All of them. Jays win 1-run games the way teams should: by smashing out three or four more runs to put the game out of reach.

I agree with this, although since I read about it this morning I haven't seen the Tulo trade as a Win-Now type of trade as much as it is stockpiling exceptional talent for the future. I mean, obviously Tulo helps now because any team who lands Tulo is better for it, but the rotation needs more moves than I can see reasonably pulled off within the next few days - and even then, starting at a disadvantage in the standings just makes it even more of a crapshoot. Maybe I'm just resigned, though. Who knows.

As much nothing as you can imagine. Bautista swings and looks as if his hamstring tightens up. Hendriks pitches two clean innings. Edwin has a solid AB vs Giles for a single bloop. Cola and Martin each fly out deep. Valencia grounds to end it.

It wasn't just "acquiring Reyes". It was acquiring Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson as well. On paper that move made the Jays a legit threat in the East. It was only for enormous bad luck that it all fell through. Also, a big trade gets big hype and the media gets to spin a new story for a while. It's to be expected.

Forgot about that quirk. Well I guess that changes things. Thanks guys. It looks entirely possible that the 2012-15 Jose-Edwin juggernaut could be replaced by a Donaldson-Tulo juggernaut after 2016 (though I hope they're able to resign Jose). I also think it's entirely possible AA doesn't land a SP (though not for lack of trying). This is a long-term move, and even if it doesn't help the biggest hole on the team this year most people will be in high spirits come spring training 2016 (and for the next few years).

Could have sworn he said something to the effect of "to beat Cruz you really gotta get the ball in on his tits". Maybe it was me. Hazel Mae looked sheepish afterwards though. But that could also be because every time she's on screen it's like her first time on screen.
