  1. Pat unknowingly explaining why Pillar leading off is such a bad idea.
  2. This lineup is ridiculously patient. Get ready for lots of 3.5-hour games this year.
  3. So at one point does an upgrade become too incremental that feelings should play a role in roster construction? Morales has some success vs. lefties, a niche the BP legitimately needs. One Tepera doesn't fill. Because until a deal is officially reached you don't leave a hole in your major league roster. And I don't think Morales didn't make the Brewers because he sucked; it's because they're a s***** rebuilding team and didn't see the need to pay a vet to do that job for them. Because clearly Venditte wasn't good enough to make even the 8th BP spot. It's 2 million -- clearly it's there to be spent, and if they decided to spend it it may mean Loup's injury is more concerning than before. Maybe they were willing to ride the MiL guys until Loup returns, but not anymore. Maybe they didn't want to miss out for the second time on a decent loogy who the Brewers gifted back to the market?
  4. Yeah, really, the team doesn't owe any individual player anything. Pretty sure no one would be complaining about Smoakabello's feelings if the team somehow landed Votto.
  5. Matheny wasted his manager challenge in the first inning with 1 out, re-checking a dubious HBP against McCutchen. Could have saved a baserunner, I guess, but jesus.
  6. Pretty interesting lineup for the Pirates with Freese hitting third. Clearly aren't going for the 3-hitter "honour" type of lineup. Cutch 2nd (HBP) and Marte 4th.
  7. Agree. Seems the natural choice here, especially considering it's a platoon situation (or should be). Other than that, I'm fine with the lineup until the Pillar experiment ends. Which, IMO, will be ugly for all parties. "Demoting" a hard-nosed, fantastic player like Pillar because they put him in a position to fail seems like a likely outcome here. Not looking forward to the "I'll work on my game and see if I can make it back up there" interview from Pillar when he goes from #1 to #8/9 in the lineup. This decision is shortsighted on every conceivable level.
  8. Probably me. I thought it was a solid fit and was annoyed the team was trying to scrape together a second lefty when a decent one was sitting on the FA pile.
  9. I legitimately think you don't know what a breast is.
  10. Just got a pang seeing Price on the top step of the Sox dugout. Ouch.
  11. I read Jonn's post without reading what she was responding to.
  12. I didn't even read your post. My bad.
  13. They have nothing to gain by changing the name back and all the bonus to gain by keeping their name attached to the building the whole country is watching. Literally whenever any newscaster or infographic mentions "Rogers Centre" it is free advertising. Even changing it to "Rogers Skydome" would defeat the purpose of the name they have, since people would just call it "Skydome". It will only happen if Rogers decide to stop giving a s*** about free advertising.
  14. Not sure if they've already been doing it but I'm glad to see Saunders hit in the middle third of the order instead of, like, 8th. Throw Edwin in place of Cola and that's pretty much the ideal lineup if Pillar has been crowned leadoff man. Not sure if it's been mentioned either, but Edwin will be ready for Sunday (or says he will be): http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/report-encarnacion-ready-opening-day/
  15. Wtf? They picked Carerra over Ceciliani?
  16. Cecil seems to really fly under the radar. There should be a contingent of Cecil-as-closer supporters but I honestly have never seen it. I agree Cecil's best role should be the more fluid one he has, but even then you'd expect some corner of the fanbase to be phoning Wilner about it every night. Weird.
  17. He had a rough first month last year, didn't he? They pulled him from the closer role pretty early and he still struggled a bit, right? I'm not sure if he chokes as a closer per se, or if his closing opportunities seem to coincide with rough patches. I think he blew a Yankees game with some HBPs in the first series. Job went to Castro after that.
  18. I dunno. Replace the rotation with the Cubs' or the Indians' and then they'd be insanely good. Until then the Blue Jays are just sanely good.
  19. 4-man + off-day. Estrada will get his first turn. The DL move really just allows for an extra BP piece until next Sunday.
  20. Me, and maybe the millions of other people who want one of the only thirty jobs of this status in the world.
  21. Hopefully it's just semantics but Smoak should not be considered a bench piece. Cola should be, just by virtue of being on the lean end of the 1B platoon. Hopefully the semantics aren't what will be practiced.
  22. But then he'll just be sitting 3/4 games when he comes up anyway. I just don't see any meaningful way to defend picking Carrera over Ceciliani when there are still three depth pieces in AAA even if dump Carrera. With the set up the Jays have, just take the best guy for the bench.
  23. I don't hate this idea, but I really only think it should be used to measure players who will have more impact. Does the 4th OF role truly need such a careful eye? How bad could Ceciliani be that it's worth rostering Carrera for 1/6th of the season? I get that some might want to maintain Carrera as depth, but at some point you just need to cut the line on a guy who doesn't meaningfully help. Is Carrera such a loss to the back-up OF role that Lake, Brown, Ceiliani, and Pompey aren't depth enough?
  24. Just wondering what the purpose of the 4th OF tryout was: Carrera: .154/.258/.346, 1 HR, 1 SB (32 PAs) Pisan: .417/.500/.833, 4 HR (42 PAs) Not sure why the loyalty for a guy who will pinch run and ideally see half as many PAs in the season than the regulars.
  25. If Tepera's "mechanical adjustment" is legit then him getting RP7/8 is defensible for now. Not big on Carrera, though. This is one of those situations when I don't really care if they lose the guy. I hate watching Sloppy Carrera.
