  1. Wow, though really isn't much different than 4/80 unless it had a large buyout on the option year.
  2. I think they offered EE 4/80 knowing he likely wouldn't accept it at the time. It makes them look good to the fans that they tried and made a competitive offer. "Win the crowd win your freedom."
  3. You can spend the investment anyway you want...
  4. Why is this only about Morales? Pearce is a better, cheaper player that we got too ya know... I'll wager $50 that Morales + Pearce puts up more WAR than Edwin next season.
  5. Edwin has said that he wishes he could play in Toronto. I know that sounds like something all free agents would say but he seems very genuine with his feelings. I really believe his agent mislead Edwin that he could find a better offer elsewhere without scouring all clubs during the week deadline the Jays gave him. He really didn't take the $80MM deal (and perhaps more importantly the deadline) seriously enough and gambled that once the CBA was signed more big spending clubs would be calling him. I imagine there are a lot of scumbag agents that try to take advantage of their clients for personal financial gain. I mean it can't be hard to convince players who have never really been in Edwin's position to take this deal just because it's $5MM more than the team he actually wanted to play for. Agent collects an extra $150K for that added $5MM, meanwhile the player is now on a long term deal for a team he once despised.
  6. I would be good with that, I don't want to be burned by him in a rivalry game.
  7. Good luck EE, hope you cash in large.
  8. If the opening day payroll was hard capped at $180MM but with no in season flexibility would you be happy then? You guys complain too much, in 2015 we added some big league salary during the season with Price, Tulo, Hawkins, Lowe, Revere, Barney and everyone cheered. In 2013 the payroll shot up with the Marlins trade, AA always said Rogers was very flexible and money was always available for deals that made sense. I don't think a $165MM opening day cap really prevents the FO from further improving the team it just means they need ownership consent... If Shapiro can't make a quick convincing call detailing why an extra $5 or $10MM could go a long way when an opportunity presents itself, then that's probably just as much on him because it didn't stop Beeston & AA from getting it done.
  9. No, I was testing you. You passed and won the golden ticket.
  10. Definitely not a top 10 hottest on the team, that's for sure.
  11. If you don't think the Canadian men on this team aren't the hottest you have ugly taste in men.
  12. What does this have to do with anything?
  13. Do you have a release date set for your Metrosexual Guidebook?
  14. Plus with a protected first round pick the Rays are in the same spot as the Jays, they'd lose their balance pick which is also in the 30s I believe.
  15. Pretty sure he's here because of his deal with Canada Goose. He made a deal with them in the summer for his jacket and that "shopping" pic he posted was just him posing holding 4 Canada Goose bags giving them a plug.
  16. I'm good for $50, dibs on the dugout seats.
  17. I don't think Drew was signed before the comp pick, he ended up re-signing with the Red Sox no? and all Morales got by waiting was a half year contract, lost money and had a s*** poor season as a result of waiting.
  18. lmao of course I know he has to accept it.. but without many other options I would hold ground as the Jays in a take it or leave it deal. It's really not a bad thing for Bautista either, all he has to do is swing his bat to still make bank and if not going to free agency after 1 year with no qualifying offer attached won't be a bad thing either. Waiting until mid season to sign a guaranteed deal he could stand lose around $8MM off his next contract anyway and how many teams will question how game ready he'll be at that point? It's not an easy answer to say just wait to make a big contract there's still no guarantee that will be out there for him.
  19. The Jays should offer Bautista the 1 year deal ($15-16MM) with two team option years of the same salary with a buy out. This gives the Jays the added flexibility and safety of turning the contract in to a team-friendly 3 year deal (if he bounces back as predicted) and if not the worst case scenario is about a $15MM loss + buyout & missing 2nd rnd pick. Even if you evaluate a comp pick as $10MM, which I think is questionable, that gets spread out over 3 years on a $15MM/yr contract and becomes a much easier to swallow $18.33MM/yr AAV investment. Nothing like a $25-$27MM strict 1 year deal.
  20. Yea good call there and a lot has to go wrong for high K rate guys to suddenly become unreliable especially when given clean innings. Like ridiculous 30% HR/FB rates or 5+ BB/9.
  21. Morales was signed to do 1 thing, hit the ball which he should be capable of doing quite well. Smoak was signed because he got hot that one month.
  22. Doesn't matter who signs him, their comp pick will be sandwiched after round 1 in the draft regardless of what round the suitor has to give up. Honestly, I'd be all for Jose @ $17MM with 2 team option years of $17MM per with a buy out. As long as he stays productive he'll still make his $51MM over 3 years and I'm sure the Jays would be quite happy having control over him if they aren't guaranteeing him the money. They won't be able to move him because of 10/5 rights but having the option to make it a 1, 2 or 3 deal based on his performance would be nice.
  23. Still seems very crazy to throw $17-18MM/yr for a max 65 innings of work from 1 pitcher. Don't get me wrong it's not an illogical strategy, I get the point of it and why they value them so high based on the recent success of similarly built teams but it seems like such a high risk to gamble that kind of money on their success for 5 years+. Relievers can be inconsistent (which we know quite well first hand) and when they have stretches of poor results it can impact their season value as much as 3x that of a starter if you consider their limited amount of innings available to them. My opinion might change in a few years, we'll see.
