    Smoak is better than Upton vs RHP so Pearce can slide in to LF. That's the benefit of having a versatile defender.

    I say he'll still get it. Rangers could offer him 4 for $75 and with no state tax he'd still make more money than he would have from the Jays.

    This is not a rebuild... that would require trading our aging players for young talent. They are filling holes, Pearce is a great signing for this team. He's versatile and has a lethal bat and can put up a lot of value quickly.

    I agree, it was the perfect offer from the Jays FO to be able to move on while coming out of it looking good. I don't want to say it was a low ball offer but it was a deal that Edwin probably expected from several teams as a starting point in negotiations. Jays were never going to a bidding war with another team and at the same time I can't blame them for moving on.
