  1. An opt out is only half of a mutual option...
  2. Why wouldn't Atlanta have signed him for insurance to a minor league deal? Maybe he's sick of catching the knuckleball.
  3. at best he's a very solid back up?
  4. Any thoughts on Fernando Salas instead of targeting Blevins? Would he come cheaper at this point? He has equal splits, not a FIP above 4 since his debut in 2010, great walk rate. If we mix in Loup we probably lengthen our BP and have a more useful arm that can be used in more situations.
  5. This might sound cold, but If he was driving under the influence like some reports I have little sympathy. Perhaps no one deserves this, we all make mistakes, but it could have been avoided with smarts and if he's going to crash I'd rather it just be him than striking someone else. Just my opinion.
  6. Damn that's sad if true. RIP.
  7. Apparently this jersey is the worst of them http://content.sportslogos.net/news/2016/07/Chris-Sale-Throwbacks-4.png
  8. Considering he just went through hell on the FA market, he might not want to do that again and the vesting option is pretty enticing for an aging player to sign the mutual agreement. I mean if he has a 150 wRC+ season then yea sure test the market again. You have to remember teams would be signing him as a DH (maybe 1B) at that point and paying > $20MM for a 38 yr old in a multi-year deal is rare when he'd have a similar offer available to him. Also worth pointing out there was a chance Bautista had no other options and would have rather waited until June to make a deal had we not signed him in which case we get no pick.
  9. well lets check our hot rankings to be sure.
  10. attendance bonuses? lol what next, ownership stake?
  11. Yea it's going to totally depend on how his season goes. If he improves a bit from last season I could see middle ground on just agreeing to the contract. He'd need to have an outstanding year at the plate, with little injuries to decline it to chase something like a 2 year $50MM contract elsewhere. After his experience in this free agency he might not want to do that again and most teams will see him as a very expensive DH/1B option if he were to go that route.
  12. Considering his age I'm pretty sure it would just be around number of PA in 2018, to basically say if you pile up injuries you're not worth the $20MM.
  13. I guess it's not even worth discussing the vesting option requirements unless they somehow #cometogether and agree on the mutual option.
  14. I eat a lot of heart failing food but I can't get myself to try that.
  15. Little Caesars needs to open up shop next to the dome and sell $5 pizzas to carry in.
  16. TODAY: The final guarantee is $18.5MM, Passan tweets. An official announcement is expected in short order.
  17. I think it was pretty clear Martin didn't like catching him, he did give it his best shot. If he had no major issues with it we wouldn't have carried Thole, I think it was the right decision in hindsight at least for us.
  18. Both of you stfu

  20. Finally. The details sound interesting.
  21. Way to calm the masses Jeff.
