  1. Valencia's value at smashing lefties is good enough to warrant a 1B platoon imo, if not at least regular play time in the line up somehow.
  2. That grounds crew cuts grass worse than my lawn.,
  3. Barton could become a legitimate option if he simply outperforms Smoak IMO. He has hot seasons and cold but he puts up pretty good WAR in limited games and a few years ago had a 4.8 war season. He's a defensive upgrade and while he doesn't have the pop a least he comes with a career .350 OBP. He's a much better depth option than Dan Johnson.
  4. Yep.. Blue Jays are holding try outs for several jobs and managers aren't watching the Bautistas, Reyes, Donaldsons, Martins, they are looking to fill their holes with the best talent they have available, period. They have to make an educated guess on who is going to give them a better chance of winning ball games beginning on game #1. If Smoak doesn't turn things around, they aren't going to count on him to make a sudden change against MLB level pitchers day in and out. They were ok putting Romero in the minors and paying him $7MM, they can afford to replace Smoak.
  5. Because that's an equal comparison.
  6. I said Strasburg because the Nats said they were open to moving him earlier, for some reason I thought he had 1 year on his contract, I guess its two. If not I think 3 or 4 other pitchers they have are free agents after this year, all very worthy rotation arms for rental pieces to replace Stroman. What we'd have to give up is another story as I have no clue how to value prospects.
  7. Calling Sanchez a bust is sort of, kind of ridiculous.
  8. If his timing isn't down at the plate he'll need extended spring training. Remember when Lawrie was rushed back after his rib injury in spring training 2 years ago? He didn't find his timing for like 2 months and everyone said he wasn't ready.
  9. I love seeing flamethrowers, something Jays have lacked for many years.
  10. That and he's only played A ball.
  11. Last year we were 10 games above .500 at end of May with no 2B, Francisco at 3B and no Stroshow. Things can happen.
  12. Jeff Blair always says on Spring Opener that nothing but bad news and ******** comes from now until the start of the season.
  13. I understand what your saying but if he traded Stroman to try to win this year would be absurd and come with far too much backlash. I could see him moving unproven pieces for 1 year of Strasburg as a pure replacement win now move knowing Stroman would replace him next year at worst. That's if he truely feels he wants to save his job by mortgaging more future.
  14. What would it take to get Strasburg for the year? Seems like a legit stopgap at ideal price.
  15. Don't even get to see one stroshow all season I mean.. f***!@!# We're so f***ed. wtf is estrada going to do in the dome? He's going to break records for homerun totals, that's what. If we couldn't get a reliever for Navarro at this point in the offseason the cost for a rotation arm above an Estrada is a scary thought.
  16. Also, depth is generally meant for stop gaps from shorter stint injuries. While temp injuries are inevitable they don't usually come with replacing a pitcher of Stroman's caliber for an entire season from within an organization.
  17. They say out for season, but is it possible to return from something like this in 6-7 months or so? I've read mixed things.
  18. I just don't see Melky speaking that in English to Buerhle lol
  19. I do agree judging a trade after you find out how the prospects developed isn't the right way to judge it. However, most of those players in that specific deal were at their max value at that time, AA traded them at the right time. He also traded them right near the deadline when the Jays need was pitching. You could look at other potential deals but he made the right move to acquire Happ if that was the best pitcher they could have gotten for those prospects at the time (along with Lyon/Carpenter). Recognizing that they weren't going to impact the Jays, likely ever except the off chance with Wojo.
  20. Typical Spring Training. Nothing but bad news to report until the regular season begins.
  21. It was actually a good read though he could have added some thoughts on then flipping Happ for Saunders to bring things fully up to date.
  22. Yonge & Sheppard is also for some reason the windiest intersection in TO, at least by my nipple calculations.
  23. Who was praising Rasmussen as our lefty of choice for the pen? They should have invited Luis Perez to camp.
