  1. Well 5/150 is crazy, and as much as I want to see Bautista continue on with the Jays, there is no way that contract turns out well. I could see a 4/90 or 5/120 range working out reasonably well for both the Jays and Bautista, but if anyone wants to give him the contract he's asking for then I'd say thanks for the memories!
  2. I'd try and sign them both but defer a good portion of their salaries, ie Davis and Scherzer contracts. Something like 4/90M range, but AAV over the 4 years at 18M, then defer the rest.
  3. I don't know about Hutch. Everyone says his BABIP has to come down, but I watched a lot of his games (he was on my fantasy team, and I held on to him longer than I should have) and he threw A LOT of hittable pitches. He needs to have better command and not throw right down the middle. I'm not sure he can consistently do that.
  4. Wow...just terrible. It's just baseball people! I know it must suck to be a Cardinals fan today but those tweets are just way past the line...
  5. Have to say when the Jays traded him away for JD, I was somewhat scared that he would turn into a beast, but a year later it looks like he is going to be no more than an average MLB player. AA got that trade right, for sure.
  6. Would be a nice pickup, but I doubt the Jays and Braves match up well. I'd do Revere/Sanchez/Pentecost, but I don't want to give up Pompey/Pillar/Alford, and the Braves would probably want one of those guys. I would really like to see them move Sanchez, assuming he could be a centrepiece for a solid #2-3 starter that has some cost control (either still arb eligible or on a decent contract).
  7. 2009 Yankees, off the top of my head.
  8. Greinke always said he would play for the highest bidder...have to appreciate his honesty.
  9. Yep, still need some more depth. Would love to see the Jays carry a $160M payroll, then adding Price would be a no brainer and the team would be fantastic. That being said, I know that's not happening and this is the type of signing I kind of expected them to make. Here's hoping Stroman continues to improve and Hutch finds that grove he had at the end of the 2014 season.
  10. Funny, I got bashed mid-season by speculating that he should get a QO. Here's hoping he declines and they get a pick for him.
  11. So how about we get back to talking baseball, instead of bashing Christianity (and religion/faith in general). So much misinformation in the last few posts it's sad, but I don't want to digress and get into an argument about it. We're all free to have our own beliefs, lets be thankful for that, and keep the baseball forum to baseball...
  12. Jays would lose their first round pick if they signed a FA with a QO. If they offer Estrada a QO, and he rejects it, they would gain a pick in between the 1st and 2nd round.
  13. I'm guessing he goes after the 2nd tier FA who don't have a QO attached to them. Load up for the next year or two, while not losing draft picks to help replenish the minors.
  14. What about Osuna, Sanchez, Pompey for Syndergaard?
  15. Probably true, and he'd have to want to come to Canada, but maybe giving him a huge backloaded deal, (ie the 10 yr, 250M) with an ETO after 3/4 years would get him.
  16. A well reasoned article. I like the idea of signing Jason Heyward and trading from the outfield depth for pitching. Maybe package Revere, Pompey and Sanchez for something, then hope Alford continues to rise through the ranks. A Pillar/Heyward/Alford outfield could be intriguing in a couple of years.
  17. Goins for Rendon...
  18. Ya, just read that before coming on here...you wonder if it's a PR move from Rogers to cover their butts. This whole situation is just weird. I think Rogers are pretty terrible owners that make some really bad decisions - from their blunders trying to replace Beeston, to their refusal to up the payroll by an extra 10 million or so that would have made the 2014 team an actual contender - but they are not the only reason to blame for the mediocrity that has surrounded the team for so many years. I'm glad Beeston is gone and I think Shapiro will turn out to be a good hire. As long as Rogers stays out of their own way. But their seems to be something fishy with AA in all of this. I can't put my finger on it, but it all seems so strange. Oh well, hopefully Shapiro hires a good GM who can fix the starting pitching issues, while restocking the farm system (although it's not stripped to the bone, and there are still some very good prospects in it). AA did a lot of good things, and some bad ones, like most GMs, but it's not the end of the world that he's gone.
  19. I don't know what's worse, not making the playoffs for 20+ years, where apathy kicks in and it doesn't matter that the Jays lose, or having them become one of the top teams in baseball, only to lose in the manner that they did. It's still hard to think about baseball right now, the pain is still raw. The Jays should be playing in the World Series this year...
  20. I'm betting around 150M USD
  21. Hello Jose Bautista...at least we got some value from Dickey (still a terrible trade though).
  22. Price has been pretty terrible the whole postseason; it's getting to the point where you wonder if he is every going to figure it out. Wonder if he gets too amped up for these games. I really wanted the Jays to re-sign him (I know, unlikely) but now I'm not so sure. Maybe that's crazy, small sample size and all, but he just looks like a different pitcher right now than when he was dominating in the regular season.
  23. I hope they can burn through the KC bullpen tonight. It would be nice if they had to use Davis et al in a blowout.
