  1. On the flip side, who would we possible sign instead of Price, and at what cost/risk? Jordan Zimmermann is probably a realistic target, but he's not as good as Price, and what type of contract will he get? I'd imagine a Jon Lester type deal of 150M+. Who else do you sign? Kazmir? He's got major injury history, and while he may be past that, he's still going to get paid. Then you have the issue that most guys don't want to play in Toronto, so you would have to over pay for them to convince them to come. Price (seemingly) loves playing here, so convincing him to stay would be easier than bringing in an outsider. Plus you don't lose your draft pick for signing someone who has a QA attached (although I know Kazmir doesn't). For the sake of argument, lets say the Jays were able to sign either Price @ 7-210M and keep the draft pick, or Kaz and Zim for a combined 10 years and 210M, with a loss of a draft pick, which one is better?
  2. I'd take Price; I know that some people wouldn't like the contract, but I think it might be wise to front load it, to account for future raises for Stroman and Donaldson. There is a ton of money coming off the books, and I think a 20M (USD) payroll increase would be warranted, especially if there is a deep playoff run. While I think Greinke is great, I don't see him coming to Toronto, and if you're going to pay big for a pitcher, I think the 2 year age difference is pretty big, and I'd go for the younger one.
  3. Only problem is the 5 year limit on contracts, which is now out the window (according to Stephen Brunt). And that was a Beeston thing not a Rogers thing. So I'm hopeful they will have a shot at Price, even if they don't land him. TV ratings should help spur Rogers into spending more...
  4. Stupid auto correct...wrote that from my phone...should be OBP
  5. Just read that Votto has an IBM of over .500 since the all star break. That's crazy.
  6. Well Seattle I think is a pretty good example of an organization that has little to no awareness or consideration of advanced metrics...
  7. Anyone else think Kirk Gibson sounds like he's half asleep? Talk about an anti-homer, does anything get this guy excited?
  8. Interesting ESPN insider article I read a few days ago about how the Jays may have the best offense of the century. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/13500816/case-made-toronto-blue-jays-having-best-al-offense-century-mlb
  9. How did Zduriencik hold his job as a GM for so long without any clue or understanding about modern statistics?
  10. Well after listening to some of the Rangers broadcast team, I was bored out of my mind. They were so bland. I like Buck; Tabler I'm not such a fan of but overall I don't think it's that bad.
  11. Earliest memory was going to the Ex around 84/85, when I was 4/5. Jays beat Baltimore 9-4 or 9-5. Been a fan for as long as I can remember, which goes back about as far as that game.
  12. High BABIP and BB rate, but decent K rate. Walks need to go down but if he can keep the K rate up while lowering the walks he should have much better results. A couple of months into his first pro season is not the time to panic. You have to give him two years at least before you start to worry.
  13. Yep, I'd put the early odds on Price going to Boston, as much as I hate to think about that.
  14. This...such a stupid policy. I understand you don't want many contracts like this, but some guys deserve it. If you want to have the best players, you have to pay for them.
  15. Great quote, do you have the link? Edit: Nevermind, saw the link....
  16. Trout, no doubt! Donaldson has been great, but Trout is the best player in the game and carrying a playoff contending team, so there's no question in my mind, no matter how hard I want Donaldson to win it.
  17. So we basically have to play 9 vs 10 tonight?
  18. A's turn Addison Russell into Semien and Beane is considered a genius?
  19. Wow what a terrible play by Semien.
  20. Shows you what we fans know.
