  1. we saw it with the raptors this city is aching to cheer for a winning team hockey, basketball and/or baseball...
  2. that's fair flafson but still showing limited to no power (0 HR's)...gotta get at least 5-10 at that spot...he's 26 I believe, don't see him cracking the lineup next year...he's definitely on the clock
  3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_franchise_postseason_droughts no complaints on the world series drought list but omg on the longest current postseason drought that's just...sad...
  4. Tanaka was/is definitely one of those players that if I happened to catch him on TV, I wouldn't change the channel...joy to watch him pitch & see how he handled a batter pitch by pitch...
  5. frenchsoup, let's not forget Goins: http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=447239 but Headley ain't Goins that's for sure. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/jul/08/chase-headley-grip-handle-padres/
  6. i think there's a distinction b/w cheering that a guy gets hurt & b/c of a player getting hurt, cheering of the implications of what that may mean for the blue jays... sucks Tanaka is down but since he is, that's good news for the jays and I guess the rest of the AL East & wild card contenders.
  7. indians just tied game 3-3 vs yanks...
  8. San Diego's lost 2 in a row...they're very close to be in official sell mode imo...i'd say headley/kennedy to Angels but they've got Freese at 3rd...
  9. agree BigCecil. I gotta believe its in Rogers self-interest to give AA some room to add payroll right now...they need to sell the hope of really contending/competing for the playoffs...I can't imagine they are saying to AA "let's wait to closer to the deadline to see what we've really got here"...b/c the jays could be literally out of contention by then...
  10. I think this team could go either way...sink hard or compete & stay in the race...and it's probably keeping Gibby & AA up every night
  11. no doubt this team is stuck in the middle. imo, Rogers is fine with a treadmill team that is competing for a playoff spot or of course, a playoff team. what they couldn't have is the perception this team really can't compete ie. teams of previous years ie. we all had hopes and dreams the jays would finally make the playoffs but knew from game 1 of the season it wasn't gonna happen...say what we will, the perception is imo, that when healthy, this team can contend... but Rogers being Rogers, this team cannot and will not be blown up short of another epic disaster ie. if they falter hard before the deadline or are a few games back but choke hard and fall X # of games back by the end of the season... so treadmill it is & selling hope, albeit a bit more hope than in previous seasons - this team overall has a lot more overall talent & than previous years... on a treadmill, AA is understandably loathe to give up top prospects...so imo if he makes a move, it will be by giving up lower tier prospects...the catch in all this imo is whether Rogers will allow AA to take on salary...if not, AA's hands are tied imo... with all that said, this team still has talent & if they can fight through and stay close until the injured guys get back, anything can happen...that's more hope to sell now than in a long long time... two other points: another post made a good point - if the jays make the playoffs (especially if they win the division & get atleast a full round in), Rogers may be forced to spend more. Second, AA should not touch the pitching prospects - the poster above imo made a good point - the rotation could be good/deep for years to come & once Dickey/Buehrle are gone, relatively cheap...
  12. and the O's remain relatively healthy...something's gotta give on their end...
  13. nice grab...nice job by the baserunner to head back...some baserunners may have assumed it was gonna land...
  14. AA, if you're reading these posts, the general theme here is: DO SOMETHING QUICK!
  15. hammer, disagree only b/c a manager can change certain individual and team wide habits...sure showalter wouldn't be preaching or covering stuff a player should know ever since his little league days, but I sure wouldn't want to walk back to that dugout towards showalter if I were Cabrera (and perhaps Reyes for jogging)...
  16. could take 85-89 wins to win the division...if the jays can just keep it at least within 2-3 games of 1st place going into September, things should shape up decently...
  17. i'm pretty sure showalter would have these cast of characters playing the game the right way... don't get me wrong, I like gibby, but I like showalter more...not to say he'd be a fit with this cast of misfits but showalter would imo see to it the team is playing consistent "fundamental" baseball...
  18. Few positives - O's lost - Jays offence put up runs - Stro show gives up a couple runs in 2nd after Reyes scuffs a routine grounder with 1 out & no one on hopefully jays can win a couple vs rays & get to 50 wins & a record of 50-46 going into the break with 66 games to go...
  19. geez... so the yanks will plunder to 15 games below .500 if he's out?!
  20. Mariners v. O's at Camden August 3rd O's v. Nats August 4 (make up game since both teams have that day off, time to be determined) O's v. Blue Jays August 5 after the All-Star break, b/w July 18-August 31st, the O's have 3 days off vs. the Jays who have 5 days off...
  21. Candy, agreed, I see him stretch or whatever all the time... but the at-bat yesterday (only saw the 1), he did not look comfortable at all & his swing seemed off & he wasn't able to generate the same fluid movement we're used to...he still hit a hard liner to left but something was off imo...could be wrong...
  22. yeah, don't see why Mastro is in there at all vs Rasmus...Rasmus is sucking but this to me is about sending a message to Rasmus...
  23. agreed pickoff, just don't think AA will pull the trigger & pay the cost... oh yeah, Drew's left handed... liking Headley even more given he's a switch hitter...
