  1. Hopefully baseball progresses where in 5 years we don't have to hear about these garbage inning limits.
  2. I'm not so sure Pompey develops into a starter. He's really got to improve his routes on defense and he has struggled with the strikeouts in MLB competition so far. His speed makes him have a good floor as a 4th OF but can he take that next step? Agree with you on Bautista. Edwin always seems to have some sort of lingering injury and now might not even start the season.
  3. A lot of guys are still there though and Shapiro values makeup. Lind could have been had for little this offseason if the Jays really wanted him.
  4. I think that ship has sailed. Sounded like there was a reason why he was traded.
  5. DH isn't hard to replace. OF is going to be tougher because you have Saunders as a FA as well. You hope Pompey or Alford can replace one of the spots but that might be too tough a task this early into their careers.
  6. The point people seem to forget is if the jays are out of it by the deadline payroll is going to shrink. Best case for the blue jays future is to win and make the playoffs, let Bautista and Edwin walk while having a $160 million payroll next season. If the Jays falter payroll goes back into the $120 range or lower and sets the fanbase back years again.
  7. Bucks are one of the worst teams I've seen at giving up open 3s.
  8. Its funny because Sanchez's teammate and best friend Stroman pretty much fits that criteria. Since developing his 2 seamer his GB rate is 59% and his avg FB velo is over 93 MPH barely under the "94 MPH" threshold.
  9. Almost as though the jays aren't allowed to improve the roster in the next couple of years..
  10. Did the same thing tonight.. Checked after it was too late.
  11. I feel like Edwin always has a bunch of these nagging injuries he has to deal with through the season. He doesn't miss much time but he's had the torn quad, finger issue, a hernia and now he has an oblique issue all in the last 2 years. To me he is already wearing down so I'm not sure you want to extend him for any more than 3 years. While Bautista is 2 years older he seems to take care of his body a lot better so I'd be more comfortable betting on him.
  12. I think the changes with the new sports science dept. give him a better chance to improve though. Atkins has talked about at length how baseball has done a great job in evaluating talent but there is still a huge void at developing and getting better. I think that reflects this board in a way.
  13. I gave my reasons... Jose's elite walk and K numbers which haven't shown any decline yet, while Edwin's has. - Jose's has the much better body and puts in a ton of work to remain in such great physical condition. - Jose has the more positional flexibility/value
  14. I know that is the reasonable expectation but I'm saying I disagree with the common thinking and gave my reasons why I think it will happen.
  15. I think that is why he added the cutter. He probably knows his changeup is terrible and likely won't get much better so that is why he focuses on a different pitch to have something on the same plane as the fastball.
  16. The thing with Sanchez is he doesn't need a lot of strikeouts to be successful for the blue jays. With how good the infield defense is and the RC turf all he needs to do is get groundballs and limit the walks. If he can get that walk rate in the 7-9% it will help him out a ton. Obviously its easier said then done but if the improvements to his body really do help his mechanics then he should be a lot better.
  17. Did I not just say Edwin was better than Jose in the 2nd half, but I still expect him to decline faster than Bautista? What you said doesn't change my viewpoint. Because of factors like contact rate, body, past injuries etc.. I think Edwin will decline faster than Jose.
  18. I think he spent 2013 on the MLB disabled list, not the minors.
  19. lol never did I say 9 innings was a meaningful sample size...
  20. Edwin was a beast last year in the 2nd half. That still doesn't change my opinion on him declining at a faster rate than JB.
  21. But that is really all we have to go by right now? Like he said this is his first season where he feels balanced on the mount and his mechanics are in line.
  22. I think some of it has to do with how Baseball stars have way less of an impact on the game than stars in Football and Basketball. The Lebrons and Currys of the world are worth like 20 Wins/season and play 3/4 of the game while a baseball star will only get 4-5 PA/game or pitch once every 5 days. Baseball will always be more regional than national since all the teams play pretty much every day. Not many people are going to go out of their way to watch an Angels game to see Mike Trout have 4 ABs. That said I still think MLB could do better no matter what they do the NFL and NBA will always have an edge based on the logistics of the sports.
  23. Jose's contact rates have been steady since the breakout and last year walked more than he struck out. Even if Edwin is younger he looks like he is declining already while Jose hasn't.
  24. Seeing Sanchez putting on weight and the work he did in the offseason is a start for a reason to think he has improved. Although a small sample his results in ST are encouraging regarding the command.
