    No one really knows the trigger as to why Bats said what he said and in the tone he used. Maybe his orignal demands were met with some type of counter offer (both term and dollars) that offended him so greatly he decided to speak out in the way that he did. But then I'd be speculating just as much as some who decide to label his comments as "stubborn", "stupid", and "greedy" without knowing the catalyst for him being somewhat annoyed........... or maybe it was just the sight of Mike Wilner's face first thing in the morning that threw his mood off.

    funny thing is, I went back and looked through it and it was barely discussed. Its quite interesting that it wasnt discussed more though, considering how many people on here bitch about Rogers being cheap. Wonder if it had anything to do with the insatiable need to have everything in one thread......

    One thing Shapiro is good at is good ole media posturing. He has zero intention of signing either guy to a contract extension, he knows damn well that both will be priced out of Rogers' budget come season end (more so if the NL adopts the DH rule for 2017). He's perfectly content qualifying them both and getting 2 draft picks, anything he says otherwise is just to save face with the Jays fanbase.

    if GM's were on 10 year contracts you would see more of it, it makes sense from so many perspectives, especially on the trade front. But alas, most GM's wont be around for the tail end of the back loaded contracts and would like as much financial flexibility while theyre in charge.

    i was under the impression that the arbitrator could only pick between the submitted figures....did this change?

    If anybody defends or tries to reason why Shapiro would make this alleged deal, they are retarded. That being said, no way in hell does Shapiro sign Gallardo, its not even debatable! He's just not that stupid.

    Bats actually started the season hitting lead-off during his epic 54 homer season if I recall correctly, but it would have to be some distant planet for that to happen next year.
