  1. The Pirates are notoriously cheap so I don't see them trading guys like Hanson along with Glasnow for Edwin. I'd definitely ask for it though. Maybe I'm overrating Glasnow but I think he will be a top 5-10 prospect in baseball by next season, if he isn't already. But I'll agree that it's not a good trade after looking at Tabata's contract (I thought he was making way less than that).
  2. Glasnow looks like an elite pitching prospect. The Pirates won't trade him and other top prospects with him. Definitely a risk to center a trade around a pitcher below AA ball, but I think he has a chance to be excellent if he pans out. Tabata is just a placeholder in the outfield as the team rebuilds.
  3. Bautista to Boston for Betts, Swihart, and Escobar Encarnacion to Pittsburgh for Glasnow and Tabata Who says no first?
  4. Taveras and Martinez from the Cardinals. A direct OF replacement for Bautista with six years of control left plus another starting option with upside to stick in the rotation. Bautista seems like a player the Cardinals would trade their top prospect for (they usually like to keep their prospects). I'm not trading with the Red Sox unless I get Betts, Swihart, and Owens. Seeing Bats win with the Red Sox would be disgusting.
  5. If they kept all the prospects and built internally while keeping Bautista and Edwin, they would have been better off than they are now. I'm not sure where you got building around Lawrie and Morrow from. They still would have been bad over the last two years, unless Alex got some cheap productive players, but may have set themselves up to have a good young rotation by next year (Syndergaard and Alvarez mixed with the current group) with TDA at catcher and no albatross contracts.
  6. His downfall was not sticking to the original plan. It may have been ownership's call to win right away after the 2012 season, but regardless, that was the beginning of the end in hindsight. The Jays could have been sitting on Stroman, Sanchez, Norris, Syndergaard, Nicolino, etc, in the minors or just reaching the Majors, with Hutch and Alvarez already up. d'Arnaud at C, Marisnick an option at CF, Escobar at short on a cheap contract, etc. With the AL East being as winnable as its ever been, waiting would have been the best option. Hindsight and all.
  7. Was the 2nd year a team option? Otherwise that is way too many years. Not worth it.
  8. Yeah Bradley has more upside but it's not worth trading talent for Bradley when the team is grooming Pompey for that spot anyway (nevermind Gose being a similar player to JBJ in the mean time). Like I said, I think he is a throw-in in a larger deal for a star player. Maybe a starter if one becomes available.
  9. Who could the Jays give up for the Red Sox to trade him and why would the Red Sox sell low on him? He seems like the ideal guy to trade in a package for a star (maybe package him with Betts). Unless the Jays want to package Bautista for those guys, it seems like an unrealistic to get him for cheap.
  10. The Jays have to go on another May-like run and then let the chips fall where they fall. Highly unlikely. It's a shame. On June 6, they were 38-24. If they just went .500 from that point, they'd be in a WC spot right now. Unfortunately, 27-38 is not .500. Or, when they were 60-50 on August 1, if they went .500 instead of 5-12, they'd be right in the thick of it. With this club, they either go on a run where they look elite, or a run where they look like the 2014 Rangers. No in between.
  11. What did Sid say?
  12. They should be able to get a huge haul for Bautista and Edwin, right? I mean, would the Red Sox give up Betts, Henry, and Swihart for one of them? Would the Cardinals give up Taveras and Martinez for one of them? How about Syndergaard and others? If so, do it. It beats hoping a .500 team can overachieve.
  13. Gibbons also got into two fights that year, with Hillenbrand and Lilly. That team should have made the playoffs, or at least been a lot closer. Then they were barely over .500 in 2007 and did not go on a run in 2008 until Cito took over. Same s*** here. Rogers finally decides to spend, Gibby is manager, and they'll probably finish below .500 both years (looking like a free fall is imminent). For all the talk of Gibbons making the right baseball moves, his teams never overachieve (like Showalter's teams, for example). At some point, you have to start questioning something he is doing. These guys aren't robots.
  14. The last two times the Jays dramatically increased payroll, it resulted in underachievement. Both times, they were managed by John Gibbons. Just saying.
  15. The Royals traded their top prospect(s) for a legit innings eating ace and a bullpen ace. The Jays traded their top prospect(s) for a middling knuckleballer coming off a career year, a declining SS with a terrible contract, a league average innings eater with a bad contract, and a starter who had a bum shoulder a year before the trade even happened. The Royals, even if they miss the playoffs, have to feel a lot better about their short-term move than the Jays. At least they got great value out of it.
  16. Happ getting destroyed, Hutchison's arm being ripped apart by career high in innings coming off TJS, Dickey being inconsistent, and Buehrle regressing. This will not be a fun last month and a half.
  17. He is on a great contract, but if the team doesn't look like a contender with him and Bautista, wouldn't it make sense to cash in on his great contract for players that could help in the future? The Jays are in a very familiar spot post-1993, and that's on a treadmill. They need to either trade prospects for vets in order to win (as they won't sign anyone) or scale back. Anything in between (i.e. this past off-season) will only result in an 80-85 win season and no playoff appearance.
  18. I think I would trade Hutchison in the off-season if he fetches something good. Gibbons has destroyed him with this season's high workload coming off Tommy John. If you could combine him and Sanchez to get an ace (Hamels?), do it.
  19. Trade Buehrle to the Dodgers for Guerrero and League. Put Guerrero at 2B and League becomes our 7th/8th inning guy. Platoon Gose and Pillar in CF. Trade Navarro and go cheap at catcher (Rene Rivera from the Pads, for example). Sign Melky only if he takes a three year deal. Sign Brandon McCarthy. Trade Happ.
  20. I can't wait until the team starts over after the season. As much as I hate the idea of trading Bautista and Edwin while they are so affordable, management messed up big time with this roster. We are an 85 win team and it's not 85 with a bullet. Trade with the Cards to get Taveras, or even the Dead Sox to get Owens, Betts, etc. Start from scratch. This core is done.
  21. No more platoon players! Re-sign Melky, start Reimold at DH (he hits both sides equally well), and trade Lind for either an infielder or reliever. If you have to platoon anyone, have it be Gose and Pillar at center. That's it. I'm tired of teams bringing lefties in and the Jays hitters turning into mush.
  22. John Olerud and cash for Robert Person. Letting Roberto Alomar go for nothing. Trading David Cone and Roger Clemens to the Yankees to help their dynasty. Nevermind Blue Jays history, I'd like anyone to name five GM's in the last 20 years for anyone team who was worse than him.
  23. Gibbons is seriously turning to s*** lately. Navarro batting 4th, Gose playing over Reimold, using Sanchez every other day, Valencia playing at all against RHP, etc. He is trying with this depleted roster but he is making some questionable decisions.
  24. Any word on Edwin? I think we can survive without Lind, but Edwin is necessary.
  25. Of course it will be Kawasaki.
