  1. Norris > Estrada > Sanchez, if I had to guess 2015 performance as starters, but I want Norris to start in AAA for service time reasons. A lefty with his stuff is worth holding onto for that extra year, even if it means a month and a half of Sanchez/Estrada in the back end of the rotation.
  2. Not benched necessarily, but skipped once or twice to get some rest. They can essentially flip spots with Estrada in that scenario, where they spend 10 days to 2 weeks as long reliever to calm their innings down, and then go back into the rotation from there. Not saying that's a great thing to do, but if they want to get mileage out of Norris/Sanchez without abusing their IP totals, then something like that could work.
  3. Man, if Osuna and Castro both remain starters this season, they are going to shoot up prospect lists.
  4. I think Sanchez/Estrada in the rotation with Norris in AAA is a good idea. However, if they decide to go with Sanchez and Norris, then there are ways to manage their innings using Estrada as the spot starter. For example, if one of the two is struggling in June, have Estrada take their spot in the rotation for 1-3 turns, and then put them back in the rotation after that, and so on. That way they periodically get a breather, and can still finish the season with an IP total around 170 or so (which I'm guessing is where they want to go after 130 IP in 2014 for both).
  5. Why do they view Hendriks as a reliever? And there's no doubt Castro's making the team. I almost wish he sucked in Spring Training. Damn you, Alex.
  6. Shut up, Morosi. No one asked you.
  7. If they are letting Castro throw 3 or more innings, that means they see him as a starter, right? RIGHT? Please don't put him in the pen, Alex.
  8. 1-2-3 inning. 2 GB and a FO. Castro making fans break out the tissues right now.
  9. Screw the bullpen. Let Castro start in AA/AAA, and then bring him up as a starter mid-season. Innings limit, my ass.
  10. The bad news is, the better he pitches, the more likely he makes the team as a reliever. Still hope sanity prevails.
  11. Wow, please don't make Castro a reliever. He's a starter.
  12. I think it's mostly because the team went out and acquired two star position players but did nothing for the rotation or pen except minor league deals and waiver claims. The organization always goes half in, never any sense of urgency despite the playoff drought and miserable fans dying to see a winner.
  13. AA thinks all our top prospects will pan out and stay injury free. Didn't need no darn depth.
  14. Yep, AA's roster management is horrendous, and I expect no different this season. We just have to wait and see what it is. It could be using Castro out of the pen, or going with 8 relievers to save a fringe pitcher with no options left, or going with 3 catchers because he adores Navarro too much to trade him, etc. I don't expect Wolf to actually start the season in the bigs though, unless more bad things happen to the rotation.
  15. No such thing as a bad minor league deal. I just think it's funny the Jays have signed Santana, Francis, and now Wolf. That's a lot of shots in the dark. Would have been nice to trade for Bolsinger or someone with some upside, but this is the spot we are in.
  16. Johan Santana, Jeff Francis, and Randy Wolf. All we need now is Erik Bedard and Freddy Garcia.
  17. It was such a long time ago that I thiught I may have been misremembering, but Stewart was in fact in the running for Jays GM in 2001 before they hired Ricciardi. They picked JP because he was white. http://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/15/sports/on-baseball-stewart-passed-over-by-the-blue-jays.html
  18. True but young pitchers get hurt so frequently that you shouldn't count on too many of them if you want to contend. Stroman and Hutchison with three veterans was a decent mix. Now it's two veterans, Hutchison, and two complete wild cards (Norris and Sanchez most likely). If one or both struggle or get hurt, it will be a huge blow to the team's already dwindling chances. I'd much rather have a vet there to bridge the gap.
  19. I'm legit surprised he's not being talked about as a rotation option right now. A 4/5 tandem of Estrada and Hendriks isn't going to light the world on fire but might be the best internal option available depending on whether you want to keep Norris down until May for service time reasons.
  20. Wheeler needing TJS is why I don't like the idea of trying to compete with a young rotation. One or two more Dickey/Buehrle types would be great in the rotation right now, rather than praying Sanchez and Norris 1) stay healthy and 2) contribute right away. Estrada should be in the rotation for that reason alone. Young pitchers should be depth.
  21. They were too busy trading Wade Miley for two relievers and overpaying for Hellickson to worry about trading for a catcher.
  22. God I hate Spring Training.
  23. Read some of your own material. You'll read things far "dummer". And 42 is way too young to be spending your life on a message board. go outside. Do something.
