  1. Sounds like he was not available tonight. Scherzer going 6 would have changed this game, but unfortunately they had to piece together 4 innings with only 3 good relief options (Fisher, Little, Hoffman).
  2. Why do I have a bad feeling about Green vs Stanton?
  3. It was either Flu or Green. Pick your poison. Yimi needs to come back.
  4. Hopefully an outing like this makes Schneider comfortable using Fisher in high leverage spots. He deserves it.
  5. Horrible base running there by Springer, but hope he's ok.
  6. Was Scherzer pulled because of Schneider’s fetish for pitching changes or something else? One of the few times I’ll breathe a sigh of relief if it’s just Schneider being Schneider.
  7. This umpire stinks but he stinks for both sides so it is what it is.
  8. Giving Ernie the green light at 3-0. I knew Schneider loved him but that’s ridiculous.
  9. Gotta let Bassitt wear this one while eating 5 innings. There is no long man in the pen (there should be) so while I'm sure JS would love to use every RP for an inning a piece, the Jays need Bassitt to give them a little bit of length here.
  10. Fisher has thrown 11 pitches in a week (last two appearances are 6/22 and 6/24), so it's possible it's to get him some work, but Schneider not knowing who his best relievers are wouldn't surprise me either.
  11. 9 run lead might be save enough for Schneider to not use Little, Rodriguez, Hoffman, or Fisher, but I'm sure he'll surprise me. Either way, nice to see a crooked number in the Jays favor. Get that RD on the positive side.
  12. Great start from Gausman. Very much needed given how hard the pen has been worked. Pleasantly surprised Schneider let him go 8 and above 100 pitches.
  13. Yeah I just don’t see it with Roden. He doesn’t pass the eye test, and the underlying data supports that. Given his age and profile, I’m not confident he’s going to be any good. If he does end up being good eventually then it probably won’t be in 2025, so either way he shouldn’t be up at this point. Let him mash 89 mph line drives in AAA and then trade him at the deadline.
  14. Pulling Kirk for a pinch runner proving costly here as Heineman is leading off. He’s been great this season but you’d much rather have Kirk at bat. Hopefully there’s still some BABIP magic left with Heiney.
  15. Roden is awful. Not sure how much of that is his fault at this point since he’s playing like once a week but he’s not a guy you want up there in an important spot. And pinch hitting for Kirk in a tie game was ridiculous.
  16. Turnbull looked awful so probably good idea to cut bait. Hopefully they do the same with Green when Garcia is ready. The pen does need a long man, though. If Scherzer leaves in the 1st inning tonight due to injury or something, then it would be Schneider's dream (getting to use every RP for an inning) but not ideal at all. Gotta hope Scherzer can chew up 5 at least, and then stay healthy after that.
  17. Absolutely insane bringing in Yariel in this game. Scherzer could conceivably be out of the game in the 1st inning tomorrow night after his thumb explodes, but Schneider thought using 5 relievers in a game the Jays were comfortably leading was the right move. Who is the long man tomorrow? Turnbull? Someone needs to be sent down for Scherzer, which I guess will be Schultz now.
  18. I think if Schneider brought in Schultz when he brought Green in, even if the same thing happened (HR), most people would have been fine with it. But you can't bring Green into games in those situations anymore. He's very bad, and a guaranteed HR allowed. Bring him in to start the inning or don't bring him in at all.
  19. If Schneider leaves Green in the game then I’ll refrain from criticizing him the rest of the night, but I think we all know damn well that ain’t happening.
  20. Thankfully Springet spares us from Schneider’s late game bullpen decisions by blowing the lead open,
  21. Someone has to get dropped for Scherzer and then Garcia. Obviously choices if the team cares about winning are Green and Turnbull but we will see what they do. You have to dummy proof the bullpen for Schneider.
  22. Yup, Schneider has never resembled a big league manager, not once, and he’s been horrible with pen usage as long as he’s been here. At this point it’s the org, not the manager,
  23. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45568636/ranking-mlb-trade-deadline-candidates-alex-bregman-jarren-duran Not a surprise the Jays are listed as one of the best fits for all the SP's except Eflin. Don't see them listed as a fit for any of the position players. They will obviously add to the rotation and possibly bullpen, but it will be interesting to see if they add to the lineup. Of the names listed there, one that jumps out to me, even though I'd prefer Barger at 3B the rest of the way, is Suarez. Like it or not (I don't), it certainly appears that Clement is likely starting at 3B most nights even when everyone is healthy. If Barger is going to play a lot of RF regardless, then might as well have it be for a 30-40 HR bat at 3B that doesn't have a massive platoon split. Then you can platoon Gimenez/Clement at 2B, and the OF defense is probably better with Barger in RF over Tony/Springer. I highly doubt the Jays go this route, but might be a reasonable path to add to the lineup. Then put Barger at 3B in 2026. Either way, the rotation is clearly the most pressing need. What they do there is going to determine a lot. They not only need a 2025 upgrade, but 2026-27 as well, so someone with some control is probably necessary.
  24. Given the way Schneider uses the pen (combined with Hoffman being unreliable recently) you could certainly make the case that adding at least 1 more elite pen arm coupled with a #3-4 SP might be a reasonable backup plan in the likely event that a top of the rotation starter is not acquired. I mean, 2003 Roy Halladay probably would have thrown 180 innings if Schneider was managing him. He just likes using the pen way too much. In the absence of an ace, having a rotation that is good enough to get you through 162 and then hoping an elite pen helps advance you through playoff rounds (or at least win a damn game) is probably more realistic for this team. Obviously though an ace is the preferred option.
