  1. It will be a six man rotation. Only one they can drop from the rotation and avoid an ego issue is Lauer, but he’s been the best SP on the team. Keep the geezers healthy for the stretch run. Maybe extra rest will mean Schneider lets them go deeper in games more often (ex. Don’t pull someone who is cruising through 6 on 76 pitches).
  2. Yeah one thing the Jays have done with this front office in recent years is spend money. If there’s mutual interest in a long term commitment, and Bieber looks like he’s back performance/stuff-wise, then I think the Jays would have a strong chance to get it done. Takes two to tango though.
  3. Yeah I think this is a great move. Risky but much needed risk. The Jays have a rotation full of #3-4’s. They didn’t need another one or a swing man, they needed a SP who could start Game 1 of a playoff round without looking out of place. If the price for anything resembling that in this market (Ryan, Alcantara) was too high, then this was the move to make, IMO. No doubt that he’s opting out unless he gets hurt again, but even if best case it’s a rental, it’s still the type of move that shifts the ceiling of this team (potentially).
  4. Looks like Stephen for Bieber is close, per Trollosi.
  5. Yeah that seems pretty light for Duran. I was expecting it to be a massive overpay. Obviously it depends on how Tait develops, but an 18 year old catcher could be like 5 years away.
  6. Curious to see the return on this one.
  7. Looks like the rental market for relievers will be expensive. Jumping early on Dominguez might end up looking shrewd. I suspect the cost for Helsley will be higher than originally thought.
  8. Should have been a split but I’ll take it. Could have easily been a sweep for the O’s. No issues getting 1 and getting the F out of Baltimore.
  9. Blowing this game would be a punch to the gut. Come on Hoffman, shut them down.
  10. Hoffman facing 3-4-5 will be interesting in a terrifying sort of way.
  11. Ernie breaking Cal Ripken's consecutive games played streak despite having a 50 wRC+ against RHP is a lot more palatable when he's actually playing defense. He's been responsible for like half the O's runs with his defense.
  12. Yariel getting unlucky but tying run up now. Ugh.
  13. Honestly if the Jays leave today with no more injuries, then I'll take that as a win no matter what happens in this game. One of the most frustrating series' I can remember, but higher expectations does that, I guess.
  14. Baseball God's turning their backs on the Jays. And F the Orioles because Mullins will be gone after this game. Of course the Jays face them before they tear down.
  15. Berrios finishing the season with an ERA under 4.00 and then trading him to the Angels because Arte Moreno is a moron is still my dream scenario.
  16. Alcides Escobar had a higher wRC+ against RHP in 2015 than Clement does now. Following the 2015 Royals blueprint, batting Clement 2nd against a RHP makes a lot of sense. Should have been lead off, though.
  17. Yeah Berrios against this lineup + the Jays lineup always spelled disaster. Just get swept and be done with this series/city.
  18. I wonder if the Jays would be interested in trying to get both in a package deal. Based on this past winter, if there's one thing Atkins loves more than a hitter with Kwan's profile, it's saving the Guardians money, so that would be a chance to kill two birds with one stone. Of course they'd have to be sure Bieber is healthy and looking like a real possibility to contribute in Aug-Oct.
  19. That off day tomorrow and getting the F out of Baltimore can’t come soon enough.
  20. The pitcher hit a batter, walked in the next batter on 4 pitches, and then started the AB against Straw down 2-0. It was an awful bunt, IMO. The one thing Straw is good at historically is not chasing. I would have at least forced the pitcher to throw a strike first, and then put the bunt play back on. Just gave the guy who couldn't find the strike zone a free out instead of trying to step on his neck. I won't even comment on that Bichette swing to end it. Fitting way to end an obnoxious game. The Jays are out 5 regulars and the O's can hit, so this is probably not that surprising all things considered.
  21. Will Wagner terrifies me because he’s a nothing defensive utility player with no power, but the nepo baby status will give him undeserved playing time. I hope he’s moved at the deadline. I said at the time any projection system that had him as a ~120 wRC+ bat was insane.
