  1. It's easier to find a reliever than a starter, so in that sense, the Jays are far more likely to get a 60 IP surprise from a waiver pick up or minor trade than 150-180 IP of what Chavez is projected to do. Your point is accurate though. It's not easy to find guys that turn out to be as good as Hendriks was last season.
  2. Yeah an extension for Chavez should be very cheap, otherwise just keep him for a year and hope he reaches or exceeds his projection.
  3. Trade for Randall Delgado now. Derp Stewart is due for a bad trade.
  4. Osuna's fate was sealed the moment he made the team out of Spring Training. He just spent an entire season as a reliever and reached a career high in innings in the process with around 80 counting the playoffs. The only way he's a SP next season is if they are willing to demote him to AAA so he can stretch out. Otherwise he was always a lock for the pen. AA f***ed him up. if Sanchez has a career at all in the Majors it will be as a reliever, so unless he's traded, the Jays are doing the right thing by keeping him in the pen. Unfortunately, Gibbons thinks he's Betances, so that's not good.
  5. It's still early but so far Stroman/Estrada/Dickey/Chavez are good bets to make the rotation, with Hutchison having the 5th spot if they can't get someone else (and I suspect they will). The Jays probably plan on leaving Osuna and Sanchez in the pen if that's the case, and if they get another starter, then Hutchison is likely in AAA to serve as depth.
  6. Hmmm. I'm a Hendriks fan so not sure what to think of this one. Depends on whether you think his 2015 performance is sustainable. It certainly wasn't a fluke based on his peripherals. I thought it would have been worth a shot to see if he could be a back-end starter, and then turn him back into a reliever if that failed (with four years of control the Jays had time to see what they had), but Chavez is clearly the more accomplished SP option for 2016 between the two of them. I think the A's might end up getting the better of this one, but the Jays are still getting a pretty good starter for a season (if not more depending on how he does and whether they re-sign him).
  7. Projected 2 win starter with one more year of reasonable salary left (projected $4.8m). Nicely done depending on who is going to Oakland.
  8. Jays have signed Humberto Quintero to a minor league deal, per Davidi.
  9. If the rumored Norris/Hoffman/Pompey package did not get it done a few months ago, then I don't think there's anything the Jays can offer in prospects that will interest the Indians. One of their lesser starters (Bauer, Tomlin) is probably a more realistic target.
  10. Martin not catching Dickey > Navarro as backup catcher.
  11. He's been a 2 win player in three of the last four seasons. I wouldn't mind if he was traded, but no way he should be non-tendered. Saunders' knee is shot and Pompey is a question mark.
  12. Freeman would be a great pick up. Not sure the Jays have the prospects to get him though, unless Atlanta wants to continue their derp way of team building.
  13. Considering the Braves have traded Heyward and Simmons within one year, it seems pretty clear that they don't value defense that much. Or more likely they don't want to pay for defense.
  14. Yeah if Kimbrel is all they got then that's a poor deal for the Red Sox, although he could always put up another elite season or two. I was expecting it to be a blockbuster before all the details came out. Be thankful we have Shapiro and not Dombrowski.
  15. Pillar is wrong both in the argument and for responding in the first place, but Wilner's one of the most unlikable people on earth so I'm going to stay neutral on this one.
  16. If you want your mind blown even further, look at Kimbrel's 2015 numbers vs. Hendriks (our long man thanks to the Gibbster).
  17. Wow, didn't realize Kimbrel fell off last season. Still very good, but not up to par with the 2-3.5 win seasons he was having with the Braves. Projected 1.3 WAR next season. I was expecting the Red Sox to get Kimbrel+. If it's just Kimbrel, then that lessens it.
  18. Ross and Kimbrel would be a good haul for the Red Sox. I wish they were still giving $100m to hitters who couldn't play defense. I liked that strategy better.
  19. Winning the AL East won't be easy in 2016 from the looks of it.
  20. "Fox Sports" = the voices in this poster's head, from the looks of it. Ignored.
  21. Not surprised one bit. No one was going to give Rasmus a long-term deal, much less a long-term deal + a draft pick.
